At Least Police Officers Are Safer

Police officers carry firearms for one reason and that reason is to protect themselves. There is nothing wrong with that because there are a lot of really bad people in the world and the police get to deal with those bad folks so they should be able to protect themselves.

I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.

Looks like the police are safer as a new report shows that the number of law enforcement officers killed by a firearm in 2013 is at its lowest since the Wild West days. More officers were killed in traffic related accidents than by a firearm (half as many died of a heart attack).

This is great news for police officers.

For the regular person who lives in a state that infringes on rights the news is not so good. Those states restrict or ban (with unconstitutional laws) the right of the people to keep and bear arms. While police officers carry firearms to protect themselves the people they serve are denied that right.

The People’s Republik of Maryland is one such place. The Socialist Governor Martin O’Malley (who wants to be President) and his band of thieves in Annapolis have passed restrictive gun laws that violate the rights of the people who are supposed to be free citizens of the state (his Lt. Governor Anthony Brown is running to replace him. Brown, an Army veteran, is a socialist and supports gun control). Maryland likes to call itself the Free State but it is nothing of the sort.

The number of murders by firearms in Baltimore alone is about 9 times that of police officers NATIONWIDE. The people murdered with firearms were the victims (though often other criminals) of people who have no regard for the law and who do not obtain their firearms legally.

But the Socialist politicians in this state think law abiding citizens (who happen to be THEIR bosses) are the problem and have enacted laws that only affect those who follow the law.

Police officers have jobs that put them in harm’s way. They carry firearms to protect themselves. The people who are denied the right to keep and bear arms are not supposed to be in danger when they go about their lives. But as I stated earlier, it is a dangerous world and criminals love to go after unarmed people.

The people who are denied by their oppressive government (and Maryland is not the only place) are prey to those who have no regard for and do not follow the law.

So while it is great that fewer police officers were killed with firearms the reality is the people who live in tyrannical areas of the country (Maryland being one such place) are at the mercy of criminals and more of us are being murdered by them.

Unfortunately, some police officers support more gun control and take great pride in upholding unconstitutional gun grabbing laws for their puppet masters in the legislature.

Happy New Year. May it come with the overturning of all unconstitutional gun laws so we the people can once again be free.

That, after all, is the best way (but not the ONLY way) for us to regain our rights.

Chicago Is Murder Capital

In 2012 more people were murdered in Chicago than in New York even though Chicago has a third of the population. The linked article has a lot of information regarding the murders and how many of them are related to bad people who use firearms but the overarching theme is that nearly every city on the list has a strict gun control policy.

Another reality is that many, if not all, are heavily populated with Democrats and run by liberals.

There is no denying that liberalism and Democrat leadership are the root cause of the high murder rates because liberal policies encourage this kind of behavior.

Liberals do not believe in personal responsibility. One needs look no further than Barack Obama who has never taken any responsibility for anything bad that happens under him. He blames everything bad on George Bush or the Republicans in Congress or the TEA Party.

He is quick to take credit for anything good. He took credit for the death of Osama bin Laden even though the military took him out.

Look at the two politicians recalled in Colorado. They are blaming voter fraud, misinformation and anything they can think of rather than the reality which is they thwarted the will of the people.

These murder cities, led by Chicago, have dense populations of liberals who support liberal politicians so they can get their “free” stuff. Get me my food stamps and Obama phones and I will vote for you while my children and peers are out knocking off liquor stores and committing welfare fraud.

The criminal elements in these cities prey on the poor and the defenseless. It is nearly impossible for law abiding citizens to own or carry firearms in Chicago and many of these other murder cities. The criminals, on the other hand, get plenty of weapons including firearms.

Liberalism is hazardous to your health.

This is Obama’s Chicago. It is his buddy Rahm’s Chicago.

Obama was a ghetto organizer before he got into office and those ghettos are now well organized.

Don’t worry though. In keeping with the lack of responsibility inherent in liberalism they will blame this on everything from Bush, to guns, to poverty. Remember, the people who are doing this are not responsible for their actions.

They must be victims of something other than the liberalism and liberal policies that they have in common.

These cities have been turned into shooting galleries and murder-hoods.

Guns Up Crime Down In Virginia

This comes as no shock to people who live in the real world. Gun ownership in Virginia has increased by 16% and violent crime is down 5%. It is important to note that it is not just the ownership that has resulted in lower crime. The important factor is that in Virginia people can carry firearms concealed with a permit and are allowed to open carry.

That is an important distinction and one we see in all of the states that do not infringe on the right of the people to keep and BEAR arms. In states where people can carry openly and/or concealed there is a lower crime rate. Increased ownership in and of itself will not reduce violent crime if the people who own the guns are not allowed to carry them. There will likely be a decrease in crimes at homes that are occupied since criminals will not know if there is an armed person inside but if that same person must go out without a firearm then he is at a greater risk for violent crime than a person in a free state.

The state of Maryland has seen a huge increase in the sale of firearms because the Governor and his minions in the State Capitol passed unconstitutional gun laws that take effect in October. But the people in Maryland (a state that calls itself free) are not free to carry firearms. The State Police deny most applications. People need to be politically connected to get a carry permit or they need to demonstrate good and substantial reason (something not defined) and then if they are lucky enough to be blessed by the state their permit is usually a restricted permit.

[note]Maryland boasts a high approval rate but the reality is most people do not apply because the process costs about $150.00 and there is little hope of getting approved. Only those who have a real good shot (the connected or people who own a business and carry valuables) apply because anyone else is just throwing their money away.[/note]

So yes, Virginia has a lower violent crime rate commensurate with an increase in firearm ownership but the real reason crime is down is because people are allowed to carry their firearms. Criminals do not know who is and who is not armed so they would rather not take a chance. Instead, they go to neighboring Maryland where people are made prey by their elected elites.

This pattern repeats itself across the nation. Places with strict gun control have a lot of crime (violent or otherwise) and places where people are free the rate is down. Chicago, strict gun control and lots of murder and mayhem. Texas, Virginia and Florida, lots of people carrying firearms and not a lot of murder and mayhem.

Armed places are safer places.

That is just an undeniable truth. And even though it is, morons like the Governor of Maryland continue to push gun control. Keep in mind that he is surrounded by armed guards all the time so he is safe. The rest of us, not so much.

Martin O’Malley wants to run for President of the US in 2016. He wants to do to America what he has done to Maryland.

He wants to enslave the entire country and make us prey to the criminal elements in society.

I know there are plenty of people who hate guns and agree with O’Moron, Obama and the rest of the gun grabbing anti American pukes so why don’t they just move to a place where guns are banned? You know why and so do I. Hell, why don’t Obama and O’Malley get rid of their armed guards?

Because they want a chance to live. The elites (like the Hollywood libs) want guns banned but only our guns and not the ones they use in their movies or that their bodyguards carry. All liberals are hypocrites (particularly the elitists).

In any event, Virginia is a shining example of what happens when people are free.

We in Maryland can only long for our freedom.

But one day we will have it.

More Evidence John Lott Is Right

More guns do mean less crime

After Barack Obama was made King, err, elected, the sales of firearms in this country skyrocketed. Citizens of this great nation know a Socialist gun grabber when they see one and Barack Obama is definitely a Socialist gun grabber.

But Big Dog, he has not tried to grab guns.

Really? He and his Justice Department ran an illegal gun running operation designed to make it look as if American guns were getting into Mexico and being used to murder people. The guns would not have been there if the government, under the direction of Obama and Holder, did not force gun dealers to sell the guns illegally and then allow them to cross the border. This was set up to allow them to pursue stricter gun laws but they got caught.

When Congresswoman Giffords was shot the gun grabbers were out in full force discussing how the guns should be more restricted.

Barack Obama does not believe that the Second Amendment is an individual right (even though it is in the Bill of Rights) despite what he tries to portray on the issue.

Obama cannot go all in on gun control/confiscation because he wants to be reelected. If he gets a second term he will not have anything to worry about and he will go after the guns. Remember what he told the Russians, he will have more flexibility.

Those of us who believe in the right to keep and bear arms know that there is nothing wrong with a law abiding citizen carrying a firearm. Open or concealed makes no difference to those of us who are completely comfortable with people exercising their right. I feel safe around law abiding people who carry firearms because I know they mean me no harm.

The only people who need to fear a law abiding citizen who carries a firearm are those who engage in violent criminal behavior.

The huge increase in gun sales has had several positive effects on the country. The sales are good for the economy, the gun industry employs nearly 200,000 people and the crime rate has gone down.

Emily Miller of The Washington Times reports that the FBI’s own crime statistics show a decrease in murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults in 2011 (a 4% drop in violent crime).

The gun grabbers want you to believe that more guns would lead to bloodbaths in the streets but the increase in ownership has not caused an elevation in crime because while millions more guns are being purchased the violent crime rate has dropped.

John Lott wrote More Guns Less Crime and his analysis was spot on.

And as Miller points out:

Mr. Arulanandam [NRA] pointed out that only a handful of states had concealed-carry programs 25 years ago, when the violent-crime rate peaked. Today, 41 states either allow carrying without a permit or have “shall issue” laws that make it easy for just about any noncriminal to get a permit. Illinois and Washington, D.C., are the only places that refuse to recognize the right to bear arms. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence did not respond to requests for comment.

If the gun grabbers were right, we’d be in the middle of a crime wave, considering how many guns are on the streets. “Firearms sales have increased substantially since right after the 2008 election,” said Bill Brassard, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which represents the $4 billion firearms and ammunition industry. “There was a leveling off in 2010, but now we’re seeing a surge again.”

Is this absolute evidence? No but the evidence keeps mounting that this is cause and effect and the evidence keeps getting harder to ignore. One only needs to look at crime rates in areas where gun laws are strict or guns are not allowed at all. These Democrat run hell holes have much higher violent crime rates than areas where the Second Amendment is upheld and people are truly free. Chicago, Obama’s home turf, is a prime example.

Let’s face it, how many criminals want to take the chance that the person they select as a target is carrying a firearm?

More guns clearly means less crime just as more liberals means less freedom.

Seems About Right to Me

Looking over stories in the New York Times ( on the basis that it is a good thing to know your enemy), I came across a story that absolutely warmed the cockles of my heart. I understand why not everyone would feel as I do, but this is truly a tale about morality.

They strode into the restaurant supply store in Harlem shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday, four young men intent on robbery, one with a Glock 9-millimeter pistol, the police said. The place may have looked like an easy mark, a high-cash business with an owner in his 70s, known as a gentle, soft-spoken man.

But Charles Augusto Jr., the 72-year-old proprietor of the Kaplan Brothers Blue Flame Corporation, at 523 West 125th Street, near Amsterdam Avenue, had been robbed several times before, despite the fact that his shop is around the corner from the 26th Precinct station house on West 126th Street.

There were no customers in the store, only Mr. Augusto and two employees, a man and a woman. The police said the invaders announced a holdup, approached the two employees and tried to place plastic handcuffs on them. The male employee, a 35-year-old known in the community as J. B., struggled with the gunman, who then hit him on the head with the pistol.

nytimes.com

Yeah- that’s right, another robbery in New York- go figure, right? Four punks, who felt as if this Mr. Augusto  Jr. should just hand over his hard- earned money to them, were in for a shock-

Watching it happen, Mr. Augusto, whom neighborhood friends call Gus, rose from a chair 20 to 30 feet away and took out a loaded Winchester 12-gauge pump-action shotgun with a pistol-grip handle. The police said he bought it after a robbery 30 years ago.

Mr. Augusto, who has never been in trouble with the law, fired three blasts in rapid succession, the police said, although Vernon McKenzie, working at an Internet company next door, heard only two booms, loud enough to send him rushing to a window, where he heard someone shout: “You’re dead! You’re dead!”

The first shot took down the gunman at the front. He died almost immediately, according to the police, who said he was 29 and had been arrested for gun possession in Queens last year and was the nephew of a police officer.

Mr. Augusto’s other two blasts hit all three accomplices, who stumbled out the door, bleeding.

nytimes.com

Oooh- Snap! that’s a big error on the part of the robbers- and they got what they deserved- I know that this is traumatic for this older man, because it is traumatic to shoot anyone, even if they had it coming.

There was no way that Mr. Augusto could have known if these robbers would leave them alive after the robbery, and he did exactly the right thing, since, as I have pointed out before, the Police are a reactive force, generally brought in after the fact. They solve crimes, but in reality, rarely prevent them, although they surely would love to.

The reaction of the relatives of these robbers was striking-

Outside the emergency room entrance of the hospital, at 113th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, relatives and friends of the dead and wounded men screamed and wailed in anguish as word of what had happened spread.

“No! No!” a woman cried. “They said he just died!”

Another crying woman, surrounded by family members, heard one of her relatives had been shot trying to rob a store.

“Oh my God!” she wailed. “Why would they want to rob a store?” She started to scream: “Damn! Why? Why would he go to a family store? He got money!” She slumped against the wall and began to pray.

Later, a man ran into the emergency room and came out screaming, “Oh, God!” He held his head in his hands and sat at the curb, apparently devastated.

A youth about 16, crying and pacing at the emergency room entrance, slammed his fist into a yellow pole.

nytimes.com

Where were these people in providing a moral compass to guide these young mens’ behavior? It clearly wasn’t an economic thing, judging from the comments of the relatives, so why? The only answer I can come up with is weak morals. A person cannot be led by the nose if he or she has the moral clarity to resist. These young men did not, and now two are dead, and two are in the hospital, and the short story line is, “That’s Justice.”

Unfortunately, this occurred in New York, so Mr. Augusto does not get off with a medal, but with a citation-

Paul J. Browne, chief spokesman for the Police Department, said that Mr. Augusto had not been arrested or charged. He was being treated like a witness and was still being questioned early Friday at the station house. It was unclear if the shotgun was registered, but Mr. Browne said, “There is a lower threshold for owning a shotgun in the city, a permit as opposed to a license.”

A law enforcement official said that the district attorney was considering a possible misdemeanor weapons charge against Mr. Augusto, indicating that he did not have a permit for the shotgun.

nytimes.com

No good deed goes unpunished, as they say, especially in New York. This man not only thwarted a robbery (a crime in itself), but possibly saved not only his own life, but those of his employees. For that, he should be given a medal.

There need to be more Mr. Augustos.
