I have to agree with Reason. When I first read the story I was wondering “what’s the big deal” since it is a common phrase that I have heard before. But when I actually heard the clip and the crowd and its response – that sinched it for me that he was indeed slinging that at Palin. I am sure she doesn’t care about his little dig but if he was man enough to say it he should at least be man enough to admit his intention.

@Adam: I’d have agreed with the position that he was using a common expression until I saw the footage of the speech.

Its not his words but his delivery that make it obvious he was referring to Palin.

He said: “You can put lipstick on a pig… [pause, smirk, and wait for laughter/cheer] but its still a pig.”

It wasn’t a pause because the laughter/cheers interrupted him it was the same kind of pause you see comedians use in their acts when they are waiting for someone to make a connection. That’s not the behavior I expect from the CIC and leader of our nation, leave such things to the late night talk show hosts and comedians.

McCain was the only Republican involved in the Keating Five. He was not found guilty of anything except bad judgment. He and John Glenn were not the ones who got in trouble and the belief is McCain was included to add a Republican tot he entirely Democratic field.

For the real scoop on the poop (sic) about this issue read: “Lipstick on a Pig: Winning In the No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game (Hardcover)” (Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Lipstick-Pig-Winning-No-Spin-Someone/dp/0743271165 ). This book was written by Torie Clarke, a one-time John McCain advisor! One reviewer, who liked the book, mentions something about Keating Five and John McCain. Was lipstick used on that pig?

He had to have known how it would be perceived. His own followers were chanting no more pit bulls. They understood what was said and how it was meant.

Let us suppose though, that he did not mean it that way. It was a poor choice of words and if he is as bright as people say he is then he knew what reference people would draw from it.

I have launched attacks on Michelle Obama before. I did not need this to do it. I have her words about pride in this country to allow me to know what kind of militant America hater she is.

You know he wasn’t calling Palin a pig or even referring to her at all. The whole story, the ad, everything…it’s a crock of bull and a big pack of lies. If you don’t believe me let the fine folks at politifact clue you in.

I love how you carry the made up talking point about this from the McCain campaign and then you turn around and launch an attack on Michelle Obama over it. Shame on you.

Wow Liz…why does the left hate this country so much? Are you so filled with self loathing that you take such positions? If so why do you continue to live here, wouldn’t the socialist nations of Europe and their policies be more in line with what the left wants? Maybe even Canada…oh wait they favor gun ownership.

Not the “big dogs of the world anymore”…again with the hatred and loathing of our nation’s military & economic power. Granted the policies and ideals of many of the Baby Boomers (I, ME, NOW Generation) who were rebelling against their parent’s (the Great Generation) values and morals have done a lot of damage to our nation and its economy. We went from a nation of people who were generally frugal, knew what it meant to sacrifice for family and country, and knew what real hardship was to a nation of spoiled children who live beyond their means, are swimming in debt, and lacking in family and community values. They also hate their heritage, culture, their nation, and those who believe in the USA. The Boomers are now passing those screwed up views of life on to their children at a time where they enjoy more wealth and prosperity than any other nation in the world and any previous generation of American.

I could give a rats ass about Obama’s skin color, his policies are terrible, and history has shown that they are failures. Even “The One” has admitted that raising taxes will hurt our economy, yet he will do so anyway. His foreign policy has been tried by Carter and it didn’t work. Anyone who is not a complete idiot knows that bargaining from a position of strength is always best.

You know there are some days I truly wish the Moonbats would move to Europe and leave this country to the folks that want to keep it the great nation that it is. If you aren’t proud of America GTFO, and that doesn’t mean those who don’t agree with the current people in office, but the Moonbats who seem to hate everything America is and stands for yet enjoys her fruits and freedoms.
