Why Would Birther Issue Matter?

The Dem Whip, James Clyburn, is worried that if the Republicans regain control they will issue birther subpoenas which will grind the government to a halt.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) warned Republicans will investigate President Obama’s birthplace if they take over Congress.

Clyburn, the third-ranking Democrat in the House, said Republicans will grind the government to a halt by issuing subpoenas against the Obama administration over a number of issues if they take power. He predicted that “gridlock” in Congress would “define” Obama’s first term if Republicans win the House, but expressed confidence his party would prevail. The Hill

Before I get to the main point, it would not be a bad thing for government to grind to a halt. The less they can do the better it is for us. The only safer time is when they are not in session.

As for the issue that concerns Clyburn, why does it matter and why would it grind things to a halt? I don’t think that these so called birther subpoenas will be issued but let us assume they will be. Why would it have such a devastating effect on Congress and the government?

If a subpoena were issued then the appropriate documentation could be produced and the matter laid to rest. If it so happens that Obama has his papers in order then it would become a moot point and make some folks in Congress look rather foolish. Since Democrats keep telling us all is in order, how could this be a negative for them? They could campaign for two years on the folly of the birther subpoenas.

Is there some other reason that Clyburn is worried? Grinding government to a halt is not a concern because it can be solved in a few moments so why would Clyburn worry? Why use this tact to scare people into voting against Republicans? This concern makes it look like Clyburn is saying; “Don’t vote for them because if they take control they will find out the truth about Obama.”

I just don’t understand the reasoning. It sounds more like a concern about what will be discovered should these alleged subpoenas be issued rather than any concern about halting government.

What does James Clyburn know that we don’t?

  1. Obama’s long-form birth certificate remains a huge mystery. It’s never been shown to the public. Massive efforts have gone into keeping it from the public, as with many other items of information about Obama’s past. But somehow, we who’d like to see proof that this man is Constitutionally permitted to hold the highest office in the land are the nutters, while those who insist that Obama is under no obligation to prove it — that we should all just take him at his word — are supposedly the voices of reason.

Ken Starr started out investigating Whitewater, moved on to the ridiculous right wing smear that Vince Foster was murdered by the Clinton’s, and eventually caught Clinton lying under oath over something completely unrelated to what Starr started out investigating. I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out what Clyburn and many others are worried about.

The GOP believes the government can do nothing right and it fights to take control of it just so it can work to make that belief come true. The 90’s were nothing. These days the most watched news network has almost every major Republican presidential hopeful on it’s payroll already and it’s blasting out party-line talking points 24 hours a day. I can see you’re already excited to see history repeat itself.

You make a great point, Francis. As the left is so fond of saying, “If you don’t have anything to hide…” — so I don’t understand, if there’s nothing to hide, why so much effort and money would be spent to keep the long-form birth certificate out of sight. After all, it’s just a birth certificate.

    • Adam says:

How much money do you think has been spent?

      • Mr. Ogre says:

Honestly, I don’t really care, and it doesn’t really matter.

      • Big Dog says:

I think it has been quite a bit. There have been more than 65 lawsuits and his lawyers have filed motions to dismiss in all of them and have had to go to court to do their thing. The administration of the lawsuits and the lawyer’s time is expensive. There is no way to know exactly because the FEC documents that show payments to the law firm include payments for many things. However, it is many multiples of the $10 it would cost to get the certified copy of the long form (a real birth certificate).

I know many think the COLB is proof. It is not but that matters not. For now, let us see the request that was submitted for the COLB and who signed it. The rules for that are the same as for the original BC so it could only have really been Obama. Let us see the request he made.

And then explain why Kos was the first to get it.

But back to the subject, why dies Clyburn mention it? What is he trying to accomplish? The Democrats brought government to a halt when they took control while Bush was in office and no one seemed to worry about that. In fact, you libs were cheering them on and demanding they issue subpoenas. There is NO evidence the GOP would issue subpoenas for the BC or anything related to it so why use that when there are issues that could cause all kinds of chaos? Hell, the illegal interference in the Democrat primaries warrant subpoenas. Why not mention that if he is trying to scare everyone?

Oh yea, then he would be admitting the Dems broke the law…

  4. Big Dog says:

It has been reported at over a million dollars but no one can be absolutely sure. It is not like they would make it very public but lawyers are expensive.

Ken Starr got Clinton on an unrelated matter because the GOP gums up the works. Yeah, and Scooter Libbey was indicted on something that amounts to not remembering and hear say evidence after a year and a half when the answer was known on day three.

With so much evidence it is not hard to understand why no one thinks government does very much right.

Like I wrote, and you ignored, it would not take forever and it could be cleared up rather quickly. That is, if they really cared about not grinding to a halt.

As for Clinton, he and Hillary had some shady and illegal dealing in Whitewater. They had friends/business partners who went to jail because of it. They were protected.

And the unrelated matter was LYING UNDER OATH. What do you suppose would happen to you if you did that?

    • Adam says:

“And then explain why Kos was the first to get it.”

Kos received the certificate at the same time it was going up on FightTheSmears.com.

While I can’t speak for the time the HTML itself showed the image I do know the file itself was uploaded to the server before the Kos image. You can view header information by putting the image URL into a site like this:

There are probably still folks who believe the Kos certificate was forged though. It’s easy to get a lie out there but impossible to take it back.

“It has been reported at over a million dollars but no one can be absolutely sure.”

What I love most is that WND lists lawyers fees and that they may have been used over the birth certificate issue. They don’t know. Funny how that part often gets left out when it spreads over to other right wing blogs. For something that has no basis in verifiable information it seems strange your side would bring it up so often…

“Like I wrote, and you ignored, it would not take forever and it could be cleared up rather quickly.”

What you ignored from the article you cite is that Clyburn explains that he believes it would not stop at the birth issue just as it didn’t stop at Whitewater with the Clinton’s.

“As for Clinton, he and Hillary had some shady and illegal dealing in Whitewater.”

Repeat after me: No sufficient evidence of criminal activity was found in any of the three investigations into Whitewater.

Tell me how many investigations into Obama’s birth it will take in the next decade before the right stops claiming something shady was going on there too? I suspect it will be the same and this is exactly what worries me about a GOP Congress.

Your side thinks of a GOP Congress as something that will “neuter” Obama. I think that would be fine but what I fear is that it will instead try to cut it off at it’s head.

      • Big Dog says:

Let me rephrase, why did Kos get it at all? It was put up at the propaganda site and at Kos. Why not ABCCBSNBCPMSNBC etc? They are the cheerleaders for Imam Obama so why did he send it to a moonbat blogger instead of the LSM?

No matter the time stamps, Kos getting it to distribute is suspicious when so many people in the LSM lick Obama’s boots. He knows they adore him and he knows they would publish it so why not give it to them?

ANd where is the request for it? Would like to see that as well?

      • Big Dog says:

Clyburn thinks it will go on and on. He is not concerned with that when Dems do it…

        • Adam says:

“Let me rephrase, why did Kos get it at all?”

I’m assuming because it gets 2.5 million unique visitors a month. It is by far the largest progressive website on the Internet. Why send it to one specific media outlet when you can post it on your own site and send it out to a site as large as DailyKos where it would be read by thousands and spread quickly from there?

“And where is the request for it?”

          What request would that be?

“Clyburn thinks it will go on and on. He is not concerned with that when Dems do it…”

          When was that?

  5. Adam says:

    “Why not Drudge then?”

Drudge’s 13 million unique visitors a month is very admirable but I wouldn’t count on that site getting anything straight from Obama any time soon as Kos did.

It could have been any number of sites so my speculation doesn’t take us very far in the end. Kos claims he requested it. Perhaps he was connected to a highly positioned member of the campaign.

I really don’t see what it matters anyway though. Why does it matter to you why Kos got it first? Does that imply something shady to you?

“It would be interesting to see who requested it and when…”

If you mean the document itself, the birth certificate is stamped June 6, 2007 and according to the campaign it was requested by Obama then along with other documents. I’m not sure what you’re getting at really.

  6. Blake says:

I think there might be something to it, just as there is something fishy about Vince Foster’s “suicide”.
Do I think we will ever know? No.

    • Adam says:

Blake is good example. How many more investigations ruling Vince Foster’s death a suicide would it take? None. Blake will always say there was something “fishy” about it just like the birth certificate.
