Well 23rd District New York; Are You Happy Now?

Democrat Bill Owens was elected to the Congress in New York’s 23rd District last week and he wasted no time breaking four campaign promises. Democrats rushed him in so they could obtain his vote on health care, one he said he would not give. He voted yes when the bill was passed in the dead of the night (once again a bill passed under cover of darkness). It was pointed out that just before the election he said he supported the bill (as it was written at that time) but had opposed the public option, something his constituents also oppose.

The other promises:

The House Health reform bill contains sections that cut Medicare benefits, tax existing health care benefits, and increases taxes on the middle class, yet Mr. Owens stated today that he will now vote in favor of those things contrary to what he had promised the voters of NY’s 23rd Congressional District that he would vote against. The Gouverneur Times

The article points out that the bill will also provide benefits for illegals, a compromise to placate the Hispanic Caucus and in direct opposition to what Obama said in his speech to the Joint session of Congress. The was the speech where Joe Wilson yelled; “You lie!”.

Turns out Wilson was right and Obama will continue to be a liar because there is no way he will veto the bill should the illegal immigrant issue survive the Senate.

Owens was not in office for more than a few days when he broke four campaign promises. Hoffman would have opposed the bill and looked out for constituents. Owens decided he wanted a short lived Congressional career by instead lying to them.

Democrats will say and do anything to get into office. Look at all the promises Obama has broken. He lied and it would appear that, as with Obama, Owens’ promises have a shelf life as well.

Sadly, the people of New York’s 23rd voted for a pig in a poke. Will people never learn?

“(once again a bill passed under cover of darkness)”

You always throw side comments like this into your posts. Are you kidding yourself on that one? As if debate about this bill hadn’t been going on for weeks, months, years inside and outside of Congress? Yes, Congress waited until everybody was asleep in bed in the dead of the night (you know, 8 PM PST) so nobody could stop them…

  2. Big Dog says:

Explain why it was necessary to stay that late and vote. Oh wait, these pukes get the WHOLE effing week off for a federal holiday.

And Adam, explain why they had to draft this bill in a closed room. Where was CSPAN? WHere were the open debates.

Don’t give me that crap about not being nefarious. This was all done in darkness and it has so many pages so it can conceal the crap.

    It is a junk bill.

What I hope, if it passes, is that it bankrupts a lot of people, like you. I think it would be great if provisions of the bill screwed a bunch of people who voted for the assholes that enacted it. It would be great if people got screwed and had to eat cat food. Better hope they have a veggie one.

Once this is done the only way to undo it will be a revolt by the people because once we give slugs more stuff that others pay for then more slugs demand that they get what they “deserve”.

Screw them. I refuse to pay for them and intend to do everything I can within the law to lower my tax burden so that they get screwed. I still have fun when charities that I use to support call me and tell me times are tough and I have not donated in a while and I tell them I never will because they endorsed Obama or the Democrat agenda. The sound in their voice is priceless.

The will get no more. I do not give to those who betray the country or expect taxpayers to foot the bill for the slugs.

Eff them and the bastards in Congress who voted for it. Too bad that plane did not hit the Capitol.

It’s a shame you have to be so unhinged about providing greater health care access to the working poor in this country and that you would wish harm upon those of us who support such policies.

Hey, we can say “asshole” now? Cool.

Poor Bigd, the party of all tantrum all the time now. No useful ideas.

Just the other day I learned that a local fellow, a cobbler, went to the hospital thinking he had pneumonia but turns out his heart was failing and he got a quadruple bypass instead (which his insurance covered). Now his heart condition has worsened and he must have a transplant. To even qualify to get on a waiting list he needs to raise $120-150k. This is because even if he gets a new heart, to quote:

“…[he] has health insurance, which will pay for the biggest part of the heart transplant, but the cost of the drugs to keep his body from rejecting the new heart will cost between $5,000 and $6,000 each month for the rest of his life. The insurance coverage they have does not include the costs of drugs,…”.

He’s 47. He had insurance. The short article describing his situation is in our local paper here.

Blake likes to pretend that he doesn’t need health insurance because he would just pay if something came up.

I wonder how long he could afford a medical expense of six thousand dollars a month?

Incidentally, this fellow McClardy, married the daughter of a minister of an *extremely* conservative church (some even consider it a cult). There is a very good chance this fellow is a very conservative republican with views similar to some of those on this site. If true, there is a good chance he is viewing this health care issue a little differently now.

Christians like to talk about how wonderful heaven is but they never seem to be in much of a hurry to get there….

Darrel, I can say what I want, I own the site. You are here because I let you be.

Your poor friend, sucks to be him. But thanks for reminding me. I need to go change my license. I was an organ donor but I am not giving anything away.

        Thanks for the reminder.

And Darrel, I am getting tired of your condescending attitude. Maybe you will get it now.

I don’t care about all your anecdotes, and that is what they are, they mean nothing to me. All people die, there is no escaping it and our time eventually comes.

How do you know what Blake can or cannot afford? His medical health is his business so shut up about it.

As far as others, it is not up to me to pay. And I am not going to.

We are headed to a very serious showdown in this country. It is going to get ugly. Like I said, I wish that plane had hit the Capitol.

Adam, Graham said it is dead, he will end up voting for it.

      • Darrel says:

He [McClardy] is not my friend, I’ve never met him or heard of him until a couple days ago. You don’t read very carefully.

Your organs are probably so twisted up with vitriol and hate that they wouldn’t be of much use to anyone anyway.

There are lots of medical procedures Blake can’t afford. Probably most of them (including example above). Point made.

You are already paying for others, indirectly and with astonishing inefficiency, suffering and turmoil. This will be changing, for the better.

Regarding your “ugly showdown,” I suppose it would be something like the Whiskey Rebellion. Once Beck and Limbaugh are captured and convicted of treason I imagine president Obama would step up and save them from the gallows as president Washington intervened for the lives of two of the leaders in that event.

“Washington, pardoned them on the grounds that one was a “simpleton,” and the other, “insane.” wiki.

Looks like Obama could even use the same reasons to spare the republican leaders of today. Not sure which category is more applicable.

        D.

        • Blake says:

In order to be convicted of treason they would have to be treasonous, kind of like Barry, right? I mean, he is the one who has all the marxists, and communists and Mao- lovers illegally appointed to various positions of power, right?
As far as what I can or cannot afford, I will just give them your name and tell them to bill you- you won’t mind, would you? I mean, between you and Adam, you can handle my bills, right?
As charitable as you all are?

BLK: “I mean, between you and Adam, you can handle my bills, right?”>>

Apparently we can since we are paying the bill for your health risk right now.

          You’re welcome.

        • Adam says:

Funny how the word ‘illegally’ is used just to mean something you disagree with. It kind of ruins the meaning when you do it that way…

  3. Big Dog says:

And it is funny to me you focus on that little thing and ignore the LIE about ILLEGALS.

You are so full of kool aid.

  4. Randy says:

The article to which you linked has posted an update correcting itself that Owens never took a solid stance against a public option, and in fact said during a debate that he found the current version of the public option in the bill reasonable. The voters in the 23rd district of New York had access to this position when they voted, and they voted for him anyway.

    • Big Dog says:

Randy, I would think the part where I said that it was reported that he changed to support the bill prior to the election (though he said he opposed the public option the way it was written at the time) would be a clue to that.

The reality is, he was opposed to it and then in a debate prior to the election he said he supported it. But he claimed to be against a PO.

Now, what I find amazing is how libs will grasp at straws and say but his position was known just after he changed it and ignore the OTHER broken promises that have not been changed.

The truth is he voted for a bill that contains things he said he would never vote for.

      Try again…

      • Randy says:

You should try reading what the Owens actually said, which was that he supported the bill as it was written and thought that the public option in the bill was reasonable. Let me say that again. He said the public option in the current bill was reasonable. He made that clear before folks voted for him.

  5. Barbara says:

You can bank on one thing and that is the democrats will always do the opposite of what they say. Don’t seem to know what truth is. Wait until the health care starts affecting everyone and you just may start hearing different stories from Adam. Wait until he hears he cannot have a procedure that may save his life. What will he say then? What you sow you reap.

  6. victoria says:

This was posted in the news online—

“If a government plan is part of the deal, “as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote,” said Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome GOP filibusters.”

“The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said dismissively.”

    Thank goodness.

  7. Randy says:

I’m also curious about this illegal immigrant issue. I have read the relevant section of HR 3962, the one that excludes illegal immigrants from coverage under the public option, and I also read the CBO analysis of the bill. Do you have more specifics on this issue?

    • Big Dog says:

      Randy,
This is from an article linked

Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus object to a provision in the Senate legislation — backed by the White House — that bars illegal immigrants from buying health insurance within a proposed new marketplace, or exchange, even if they use their own money to buy from private companies.

Illegal immigrants can buy private health insurance now, so some lawmakers say the White House position goes too far. The House bill doesn’t have that language, and several members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus met with Obama at the White House on Thursday to tell him that if that changed, he could lose as many as 20 votes.

“I think that he got our message,” Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., head of the Hispanic Caucus, said afterward.

House leaders said that, in keeping with the Hispanic Caucus’ demands, there was not likely to be any prohibition added to the House bill against illegal immigrants shopping in the exchange.

Democrats were trying to toughen prohibitions in the bill against federal funding for abortions in a way that would satisfy enough anti-abortion Democrats. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops was involved in the talks and a resolution appeared within reach late Thursday.

      • Randy says:

There is a prohibition in the bill for illegal immigrants to receive benefits provided in the bill. Which benefits does the bill provide to illegal immigrants?

        • Blake says:

Dems are by their very nature deceitful- they take out the provisions for abortion and illegals, in order to get the meager votes they got, because they know that they will put them back in in the reconciled bill’s amendments, after it is too late to do anything about it.
They are liars and traitors, and they are bankrupting this country.
It is ALL on the liberals, and when the rebellion comes, I bet liberals swing in the wind quite nicely.

        • Randy says:

You didn’t even try to answer the question Blake. Without answering my very simple question you have no leg to stand on.

        • Adam says:

          The rebellion stole the answer.

        • Blake says:

The bill covers them in the same way they have always been covered- they come to the emergencty room- they, at this time ( and I have to put that caveat in here) prohibit illegals from being eligible for the free stuff, but they can still buy on the gubbmint plan.
          Does that answer your question?

        • Randy says:

No Blake, it doesn’t answer my question. If that care is already available to them, how does the bill make the benefits available to them? Maybe you would like a bill that put more restrictions on the availability of health care in the US to illegal immigrants. Well, this (the House bill that just passed) is your kind of bill then. If you actually did your homework, you would know that the House bill actually makes it harder for illegals to buy, with their own money, private health insurance.

  8. Adam says:

Folks said healthcare was DOA in the House as well but the Dems scratched out a decent bill anyway. When it comes to whether or not it will pass the Senate I wouldn’t listen to that RINO Lindsey Graham anyway, he voted for Sotomayor.

  9. Big Dog says:

It has nothing to do with policies Adam or helping the poor. Quit living with your head up your ass. The damned thing will cost a fortune, will ration care and will lead to socialized medicine. Don’t pretend that you have some moral high ground. When you actually hold the hands of the dying because their families are not there then you can tell me about compassion.

I believe that people should be held responsible for their actions. I have no intention of allowing government to mandate anything for me. And care will never be rationed as long as a doctor fears for his life.

You are either too dense or not educated enough to see that this is bad so I hope it hurts you badly. I want you to have to be hurt to see it.

    • Adam says:

Well, thanks for the kind, Christian words.

Kind Christian words, sorry son your health care will be run by gubmint and we can’t have religion in gubmint.

If those you love are bankrupt or live off the money of others that eventually incites violence I want them to know the pain. I am tired of government not listening and I want them all gone.

They hit the wrong building on 9/11.

        • Adam says:

You’re a little too unhinged over something that hasn’t even passed the Senate yet.

        • Blake says:

This FUBAR of a bill is something that justifies becoming unhinged- the fact that you all- all ostensibly sane and educated people, cannot see where this is nothing but a naked power grab that will impoverish the people and nation, is beyond me.
You all must love your dogma more than sanity, because you are bereft of all common sense.
It will only take 51 people to pass the Senate- and you libs are real good at blackmail- but if there are true patriots left in the Senate, this SHOULD go down in flames.

Too many in America are hurting unnecessarily already. Tens of thousands dying needlessly. It’s absurd. Too many loons and greed mongers have been keeping this country down. It’s time to grow up as a nation a little and start taking care of our fellow citizens like a first world country. It’s embarrassing.

      D.

      • Big Dog says:

CBO only gives a number based on information provided. It cannot speculate on that which has not been presented. Tings are deliberately vague or left out to keep numbers down and no estimate form CBO has come in at that number because of this. medicare costs a lot more than they said it would and this is no different. It will cost about 6 times more. Think Massachusetts.

Treason, not a chance. It is our duty to cast of the ties to government that is tyrannical, our Founders taught us this.

Adam, getting twisted about things fires you guys up so I can laugh at how you all point out some inane item like a correction in an article while ignoring the entire substance because you know it is true.

Darrel, I have lots of doctor friends so my family will be in good shape. i imagine there will be a big black market with cash transactions.

The word friend should have had quotes to display sarcasm.

Insurance companies make about 2% profit so there is your greed. If you and I are alive in 10 years (and if we still have a country) we can discuss the failures then and your suggestions about spending more money to fix it.

        2101 will be a bloodbath.

        • Adam says:

In case you haven’t noticed, numbers for the Democrats are rising and support for Obama has been fairly steady for months. You’re living in a dream world if you think the US is going to rise up against healthcare changes.

It’s possible the 2010 GOP can get it together and crush the Democrats but if you think the 2009 party of “I OBJECT, I OBJECT!” is going to create some kind of blood bath next year then the joke is really on you.

But by all means, feel free to continue to laugh away at us. Your unhinged rantings wishing harm on people reveal more than enough about your Obama derangement.

That’s an awfully far out prediction but you may be right. You’ll be in heaven then.

          D.

ps. As pointed out on “This Week” Sunday, there have been five recent national (congressional) elections. Demo’s are five for five.

  10. laymen says:

    This is great news.

  11. Big Dog says:

Right Adam, you keep dreaming. The numbers in opposition to this keep going up.

I don’t think either party is particularly good about anything but I believe that the GOP will make advances next year because people see what is happening.

As for I object, you were all for that as part of the process when Democrats were obstructing the GOP.

Me wishing harm on peoaple is bad? How is it that a bill that will harm taxpayers (as opposed to the leeches) and will harm the country is OK but asking that those who support it feel the most harm when it fails is bad?

The government has no business making people buy insurance and it has no business dictating how much we have to spend on said insurance.

Wait until this implements and see how you like it then.

You guys are hastening the complete change of our country and eventually the change in government.

  12. Big Dog says:

The good part about the 2101 prediction is that none of us will be here to call me wrong or right.

I doubt there will be a US then.

Of these 5 elections how many were in solid Democrat districts? Makes a big difference.

Adam, the public is concerned about a bill that has over 2000 pages in it. No one has read it and it contains many things that people are not interested in. I can undertsand Darrel wanting all this crap, he comes from that kind of environment and is not use to taking care of himself.

But America did not become the greatest nation on Earth by following the failed policies of other countries. We need reform but it should be real reform and not a takeover of our health care system. It is wrong and it will cost.

And D, there will also be a bloodbath in 2010. If ACORN is involved we need to fit them for cement shoes.

    • Adam says:

What things people aren’t interested in? A public option? Required insurance? Those are things the public supports. I think the public is opposed to the death panels, the rationing, the massive deficits this will cause, etc. You know, all the things Republicans lie about when they talk about this bill?

    • Adam says:

Well, you may not be around in 2101 but I will. I’m just a young snot nosed brat, so I’ll make sure I vote Democrat for you in 2101. The Democrats love dead voters, right?

  13. Big Dog says:

I am going to be at my polling place with a night stick cursing Democrat supporters and threatening them. I can do that now because the Obama Justice Department said it was OK.

  14. victoria says:

Me wishing harm on peoaple is bad? How is it that a bill that will harm taxpayers (as opposed to the leeches) and will harm the country is OK but asking that those who support it feel the most harm when it fails is bad?

    Excellent point.

  15. Big Dog says:

By 2101 they will have wised up and require ID so the dead will stop voting.

When I vote it is a peaceful process even when I am standing in line talking to someone who will vote differently than I. We have conversation and discuss our candidates but we do it civilly.

I don’t live in a place where poorly educated racists stand around in BDUs weilding batons and threatening people.

If that happened here, people from both parties would dispatch them rather quickly. We would work together to do it and then we would get back in line to vote for our respective candidates.

This year though, I might have to play the Obama Chicago thug role to see if it gets me arrested.

I would love to get money on that discrimination lawsuit…

    • Adam says:

You mentioned Democrats obstructing the GOP. Did the Democrats ever cry and whine “I object! I object!” for hours on end because they weren’t getting their way?

  16. Big Dog says:

He made it clear a few days before. The entire time he was against it.

And you harp on this (he lied) and do not mention the rest.

His district is upset with him because they believe he did the opposite of what he said.

Want to bet he has only one year in office?

    • Adam says:

Healthcare will be long passed by then hopefully so let him burn. The first to go for the Dems will be the districts conservatives have long held but squandered in recent elections because of the GOP meltdown.

      • Big Dog says:

So you only care about having him for that vote.

        Interesting.

Of course, the bill could get lost in the Senate and never make it out and then it will get closer to an election and more Democrats will be afraid to vote for it and they will try to keep their jobs.

        Then bam…

I think there will be some long serving Dems (and a few Repubs) that lose their seats in the next election.

        • Adam says:

I believe health care reform and cap and trade to be the two most important areas for the Democrats in congress or any congress in the near future to be working on.

There are many Dems in conservative districts like NY-23 that are basically disposable at this point. The Democrats will not hold a majority forever but I have my doubts the tide is turning the way you want it for 2010. The chances of the Democrats gaining on the GOP is very slim considering the bloodbath you imagine in 2010 actually happened in 2006 and 2008.

          • Big Dog says:

And both will likely fail in the Senate

            • Adam says:

I don’t think the Democrats will stop until some form health care and cap and trade make it to Obama’s desk. It may not be the bill they all want now but there will be a bill and it will lay the foundation for bigger changes down the road that you are so scared about but which will move our country into the future.

            • Darrel says:

Oh whatever will we do when we actually improve our stats to be above average? (or above last, see below). This is Bigd’s fear?

              D.
              ————–
“…the United States now ranks last in preventable mortality, just below Ireland and Portugal, according to the Commonwealth Fund’s analysis of World Health Organization data. The leader by that measure is France, followed by Japan and Australia.”

              Link.

  17. Big Dog says:

The mortality numbers that are often cited are incorrect. Different countries report different things as a death.

For instance, a child born prematurely in certain countries is left to die and not considered as a death. In the US we try to save that child and report it as a death if it dies.

We have higher survival rates for most diseases and we have the highest standard of living in the world. You can use statistics to prove anything.

So explain why so may foreigners come tot his country. Explain why this is the place that they want to come to most and many will risk their lives to get here. If all the other countries are so great then go there.

I have no fear because I do not intend to follow whatever rules are mandated for health care. I do not intend to pay fines or go to jail and I will have the health care I need. I worry that we are going to spend 6 times the lie they claim to be the cost and we will bankrupt our country.
