Very Sad News

It is with heavy heart and deep sadness that I report the death of my stepmother MG. In 1987 my family was devastated by the death of my mother at the age of 47. She was a victim of cancer and left us well before her time.

My father met and eventually married MG and she became part of our family. I remember the first time I met her. She and dad came to our house for dinner and MG sat on the floor for hours playing games with my young children. MG was a wonderful, caring person who always had time to help others and she filled a void in our lives left by my mother’s premature death. It was almost as if God himself sent her to be a part of our lives.

MG was diagnosed with cancer nearly 12 years ago and has fought it ever since. Through the years she had good times and bad but she always kept her chin up and fought for the precious gift that God blessed her with. Unfortunately, the years of chemotherapy have taken their toll and the reemergence of her cancer was unable to be treated. The bad news came about a month ago and we watched as this once vibrant and life filled woman rapidly deteriorated. She was placed in hospice fewer than 24 hours ago and finally succumbed to her illness.

When she was taken from her home to the hospice she demonstrated the strength I have always admired when she said to my dad, “Have them take me out the front door. This is the last time I will leave my house and I want to go out the front.” MG, even when faced with her own mortality, decided the final chapter of her life. She died with the same dignity with which she lived her life.

MG is gone but she will always live in our hearts. May God bless and have mercy on her soul and may He give her eternal rest, she has earned it.
