Turning Down The Heat

Let me first apologize to our readers. Unfortunately, I must clean some house with this post. For those of you who read Big Dog’s “If You Can’t Take The Heat” post, I need your cooperation. It seems the blogger upon which the post centers simply will not leave us alone. Although she has not returned to this site to comment, she continues to send us nasty and threatening emails after being repeatedly asked to cease and desist.

Her latest missive threatens us/the blog regarding Big Dog’s suggestion that you may want to visit her site — and, if you do, to tell her he says “hi.” She claims it is harassment and demands that we remove from the post the link to her site. Since Big Dog is currently on a business trip and unavailable for immediate editorial action, I am posting this request in response. Although she referenced legal code in her e-mail, I believe it’s irrelevant as it cites code concerning sexual and other harassment in the workplace. For clarification, Melissa has never, nor will ever be employed by Big Dog’s Weblog. And, it seems irrelevant to her that both here and at Adam’s site, where the original exchange took place, she provided her blog’s link (URI). As far as I’m concerned, that’s an implied invitation to visit her site . . . but, I’m not a lawyer.

So, please do not go to the above post and link over to Melissa’s site because anyone at Big Dog’s asked you to do it. If you go on your own, please do not tell her we said “hi.” It simply isn’t worth it. If she had just been patient and not forced us to take this action, the offending post would have been bumped from the page with the next piece — which is now this post. Be careful of what you ask for . . . .

For those preferring less drama and more politics, we will have something more substantive shortly. Thanks for your patience.

I removed the link to the site. I am not worried about Dewey, Cheatum, and Howell visiting me but this childishness is simply not worth the time and effort.

  2. Surfside says:

I must respectfully disagree with your decision. While I feel this entire issue has taken up entirely too much blog time and space, we should not cave to baseless threats and intimidation.

The fact is that telling any of our readers to say “hi” anywhere is not harassment or intimidation. We are a political blog (or were before all this nonsense). We are not the mafia; and, we do not employ thugs. Secondly, she runs a public Web site — no passwords needed. She links her name to the site whenever and wherever she comments, including here. This is an express invitation for anyone viewing these comments to “stop on by.”

It’s my opinion that when you cave into bullies and blackmailers, you embolden, encourage, and enable them. So, I am opposed to that course of action. But, it is your Web site and your post, so you must cover your ass as you see fit.

  3. Surfside says:

Oh! I see now. Sorry. Everyone disregard the little “holier than thou” skit above.

  4. She just spews like a typical liberal and fights like a typical liberal. Just shooting off her mouth, using irrelevant references, trying to make her arguement. When she is wrong and called on it, she acts like a powder keg in hopes to make you back off. That, in her mind, means she wins.

Hold your ground. As long as her site is open to the public, people can comment any way they wish. Her sole recourse is to accept it, block them, or make her site private. None of these options will make her site successful. If she accepts it, she looks wrong and her site suffers credibility. If she blocks them, she looks wrong and unable to defend her position. People on other sites talk about it and she loses credibility. Option 3 is that she can make her site private…Oh pleeezze… do us this favor 🙂

  5. Adam says:

    Nonsense Nation:

Nonsense as usual. Her site is of her own design. She does not worry about credibility, respect, or success. She isn’t fighting like a typical liberal, or spewing like a typical liberal. This whole thing just needs to be over alright, so don’t try to kick the hornets nest yourself after the stinging bastards are just starting to calm down…please.

  6. Surfside says:

Ah, Nonsense Nation, dare to hope.

  7. Schatz says:

I wouldn’t expect someone of such caliber (or lack thereof) to worry about credibility, respect, or success as she likely has little or none of them to worry over. I have to say that this is the most ridiculous “stretch” of harassment that I have ever heard. I can assure the Big Dog (and Surfside and any others) that you are well within your rights to make such recommendations about visiting sites. Anyone can find the site on our own and say whatever we like and if she doesn’t like us, she’ll simply block us as she did the Dog. Or, God Forbid, act like an adult and ignore us (if you can’t beat them then shut the heck up). This is not harassment but FREE SPEECH. Just because you don’t like what someone has to say or what their friends have to say, as in this case, does not make it harassment. As a matter of fact, it appears as if the grand dame is harassing you with her emails after being told to cease and desist (see http://www.haltabuse.org/help/isit.shtml.

That is the chance you take when you run a public blog and then run off at the most unintelligent mouth and have nothing to back it up but the “block this user” key. Spare me — :twisted_wp:
