Traitors, Travelers, and Thugs, Oh My!

I’m having my coffee, looking out my window at the freest, most peaceful country on Earth, wondering how someone, anyone could think about changing our form of government in such a wholesale fashion. I find it hard to believe that people would have the hate for what has, regardless of who you are, been the best country ever. Oh, not that there are not things that can be done better, but at least we try- which is more than can be said for others.

Listen, if you seriously believe another country is a better fit for you, I strongly encourage you to go- just go, and don’t let the doorknob hit you in the ass on the way out. Our forefathers thought long and hard about the best form of representative government they could think of, and came up with our Republic.

That is right, this is a Republic, not exactly a democracy in the truest sense of the word- we elect representatives to do the will of the people, and be our voice in Congress. Well, they are going off of the reservation, and in some cases, they are openly saying they will oppose the will of the people because they believe they know best. What ignorant arrogance.

Our form of government has lasted 233 years, more than any other.

Communism lasted 75 years.

Fascism lasts an average of 15 years.

Socialism has never worked- even as a “government within a government”, as is the case in The United Kingdom, or Canada.

People who want to change our form of government are traitors, plain and simple. They know they are traitors, but they were elected or appointed under a deceptive agenda, wonderfully vague and simplistic. “Change and Hope”- ooooh- that almost makes a thrill go up my leg, except I have a BS meter, and the needle has pegged out in the red.

You see, this brouhaha is not really about the Healthcare, or the Cap and Tax, or the TARP, or even the financial bailouts. This is about “engendering a sense of urgency”, so that these incremental little changes, like a snare, can be drawn gradually around the populace, encircling and ensnaring them until the populace is trapped into this socialist existence, forever to be doomed to a life of reduced expectations, and a third- world existence.

And all while the political elites live high on the hog- because make no mistake about this- they will refuse to live as you or I are forced to do. They will say that they must live better, so that they can make the decisions for you and me. It will be their “duty” to live better, you see.

Just as Al Gore justifies using his private jet, and his fleet of SUVs, all in the name of promoting “Global Warming”, ( I can’t even begin to wrap my mind around that hypocrisy), so these “leaders” will seek to justify their excesses, even as they deny you your rightful earnings.

The lies are profound, and yet the left denies the reality- just don’t look directly at it or the deception will blind you.

Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the Weather Underground, a radical organization from the 70s is a friend of Nobama- but the co- founder of the Weather Underground, Jeffery Jones, now heads up the Apollo Alliance, along with Van Jones, an avowed Communist and self- described radical. The Apollo Alliance helped write the Healthcare bill, along with the SEIU, the union that stands to benefit the most if this passes. I would love to know where the FBI was during the vetting process for Van Jones- in the normal order of things, this twice- arrested  thug would not be let into the rotunda, much less be an advisor, or “Czar”.

Cass Sunstein, along with Mark Lloyd, the “Diversity” Czar, are seeking ways to control and shut down, (if they wish) the Internet- which has far too much truth to suit them. They feel that unregulated “truth” might be harmful, so in addition to silencing dissent on talk radio, and TV networks (except for the ‘Igor” networks that already do Nobama’s bidding), they also seek to control the Internet.

Sounds like Venezuela, or Russia, or China- any one of those three we should not emulate. At least, so you would think- but Mark Lloyd seems to admire that pig of a dictator,  Hugo Chavez, so Mr. Lloyd thinks whatever Chavez did is just awesome, dude.

These people have been laying the groundwork for years, as I have said, slowly and quietly installing the base for their programs, like the “Community Reinvestment Act” under that well known socialist Jiminy Carter. He will forever be a traitor to me, and he is the single most prevalent reason I became a conservative.

Then there is the resistance to regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and others- and make no mistake, it is their fault more than anyone else’s.  They kept President Bush and his cadre from installing regulations that might have reined in the worst of the excesses.

Now it’s Cash for Clunkers- the same thing, just get people in more debt- soon to come to a neighborhood near you, Cash for clunkin’ refrigerators- I couldn’t make this up.

So where’s the emergency? Oh, I know it’s coming, the situation they will use to clamp down on society and attempt to consolidate their control. It’s coming, of that you can be sure. Henry Kissinger once said, “Just because you are paranoid, does not mean people are not after you.”

I do not think I am wrong. I think there are going to be a bunch of my liberal friends going, “What happened? This is not what I voted for.” No kidding- that is the exact reason that Nobama was so vague and refused to be specific- “Hope and Change”- yeah, right.

The more things change, the more hope we will lose.

2010 is up to us.

    See that myth dismantled here.

If your so free, why can’t you go to Cuba?

In freedom of the press, the US ranks 17th.

A dozen countries offer more freedom to gays.

This is studied carefully and we have a measurement of this. The most peaceful country, this year, is New Zealand. Out of about 140 countries, the US comes in embarrasingly low compared to similar peer countries. 83rd place.

    Norway – 2
    Denmark – 3
    Austria – 5
    Sweden – 6
    Japan – 7

Hugo Chavez was democratically elected in 1998 with 56% of the vote.

It seems to me that if you had good arguments for your beliefs you would use those rather than appeal to a constant stream of insultingly false information.

That is one of the most misleading pieces of BS I have ever seen. New Zealand! Give me a break. It is about an isolated country as there is. Too bad Antarctica is not a country. There we have a whole continent ahead of New Zealand. Good that it is just this year as then Austria and Japan don’t count WWII. The U.S. ranks low because it’s been the world protector. Argue what you will but don’t leave that out.

No, being a “protector” is not incompatible with peace. The US scores low on such an objective measurement… for rather obvious reasons.

You say this measurement is “misleading” but careful readers will note that you don’t give any reasons or examples.

        MIKE: ““Al Gore private jet”.>>

You seem to wish to make the case that Al Gore is a hypocrite. Let me show you how to begin. To support this conclusion you need to show the truth of these premises:

        a) Al Gore has said people should not fly in jets, or private jets.

        b) Al Gore has a private jet

I don’t think you can support either one of these. Perhaps you would like to try.

        D.

        • Mike Radigan says:

Darrel, I don’t even know where to begin. I gave the example of New Zealand compared with Antarctica. New Zealand is number one because it has no neighbors, period. Austria and Japan, WWII. And Canada would be equal with New Zealand if it didn’t supply a few troops to the UN. It only shares a border with the US, no war there. This argument is akin to saying any large urban area has more crime (even per capita) than an isolated rural area. Pleeeeze!

If Blake was making his claim 70 years ago, you would have a point. Since he was looking out his window and dreaming about his “most peaceful country on earth” yesterday, you don’t.

MK: And Canada would be equal with New Zealand if it didn’t supply a few troops to the UN.>>

          DAR
It’s not clear why you think a country donating peace-keeping forces to the UN would hurt a countries rating in a measurement of it’s “peacefulness.” That’s backwards.

          DAR
Right. So there goes your assertion about countries being hurt on the scale because of distance from other countries. Canada is ranked 8, the US, 83rd.

You have yet to show that Mr. Gore has said people shouldn’t fly in jets, private or otherwise.

I gave you two premises you need to support if you want to even begin to get your charge of hypocrisy off the ground. You need *both* of them and you don’t even attempt to support either one of them.

Incidentally, even if you could show he has a private jet (you can’t), or that he has claimed people shouldn’t fly in jets (he hasn’t), your argument would still be undermined by the fact that he purchases carbon offsets to compensate for the carbon he does use.

As I have mentioned before, I’m not too big on the whole tribalism thing. As Paine famously put it:

“The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.”

The whole nationalism thing is over rated and too often unproductive. Best to just be honest and work to improve the environment you’re in. Leave the pep rallies for the kiddies.

Remoteness is just one factor. The site you source states:

The Economist, in publishing the index, admitted that, “the index will run into some flak.” Specifically, according to The Economist, the weighting of military expenditure “may seem to give heart to freeloaders: countries that enjoy peace precisely because others (often the USA) care for their defense.” The true utility of the index may lie not in its specific rankings of countries now, but in how those rankings change over time, thus tracking when and how countries become more or less peaceful.

No, your distorting the claim. No one has said “we can pollute all we want.” Buying offsets is a useful stop gap to make up for when excess carbon is used. This reduces a persons carbon “footprint.” Buying them is better than not.

This was when I learned just how profoundly dishonest the US media and general discussion is in this country. It’s really quite amazing that this is tolerated. I have yet to see a Gore smear that actually holds up. The attacks against him represent an astonishing and in my experience a perfect record of distortion and dishonesty.

MK: Look up condescending in the dictionary.
DAR: I did. It isn’t “name calling.” Why do you say one thing when you mean the other?

Webster defines condescending as to assume an air of superiority. Therefore, that would relegate the other party as inferior. OK then. I can call you inferior and that’s OK by you. Good enough, I’m superior to you. No name calling there. We agree again.

MK: The example [Antarctica] was its remoteness.
DAR: The example is ludicrous. An examination of the list of countries does not show a correlation between peacefulness and closeness to other countries. Austria shares large borders with 7 countries. It’s #5.

Austria like Japan has put their military away after WWII. They learned their lesson.

DAR: Hey Mike, Denmark ranks #2. It’s surrounded by countries.
MK: It shares a border with ONE country.
DAR: Let me draw you a picture

Denmark shares a border with Germany. That’s it. If water counts then the U.S. shares a border with France. And Denmark attacking Germany is like the 98 pound weakling throwing sand in the face of the beach bully.

DAR: Let’s remember that the actual claim in question I was addressing was that the US is the “most peaceful country on Earth.”
I wouldn’t even have made a fuss if it was in the top ten. I wish it could make the top twenty.

          Again your own source states:

The true utility of the index may lie not in its specific rankings of countries now, but in how those rankings change over time.

DAR: Here was the original claim: “Al Gore justifies using his private jet…”
Al Gore doesn’t have a private jet, nor has he ever condemned people flying in private jets. He flies commercial when he can.
MK: Please don’t tell me he flies commercial.
DAR: To(o) late. Already did. He flies commercial. Get informed. Almost everything the right says and too often believes about Al Gore, is wrong.

Show me he flies commercial. When was that? And it shouldn’t matter. He is championing a cause and as such should ALWAYS fly commercial while not in office.

MK: Cool, then we can pollute all we want. Just buy carbon offsets.
DAR: No, your distorting the claim. No one has said “we can pollute all we want.” Buying offsets is a useful stop gap to make up for when excess carbon is used. This reduces a persons carbon “footprint.” Buying them is better than not.

I guess we will just agree to disagree on this point.

          MK: Ah, yes, the inventor.
DAR: He never said that of course. A little side note. I have been swatting down lies and smears about Al Gore for years. Originally I investigated them innocently enough. You say Japan put its military away and learned its lesson as if it had a choice. The surrender required them to only use their military for homeland defense.

Al Gore smears? Sure. The things that are true are not smears. Al Gore said he took the initiative in creating the internet. Since the internet was invented in 1969 and Al Gore was in the Army at that time (and not in Congress until 1977) I fail to see how anything he did involved the internet. Any mention of him being involved in it is a LIE. Swat that “smear” down.

What criteria do they use for peacefulness? In Blake’s opinion he lives in the most peaceful country on Earth and that is good enough. Who cares what some organization says? These organizations that rate come up with bizarre criteria and then make claims based on little substance.

But you might be on to something. perhaps if the US had remained peaceful in WWI and WWII those countries that are now such a Utopia of peace would all be part of another country that was in no way peaceful.

If the US becaomes the most peaceful country on Earth by the criteria set forth by groups with nothing better to do then a lot of other countries will suffer.

Led by Volcker, the Federal Reserve raised the discount rate from 10% when Volcker assumed the chairmanship in August 1979 to 12% within two months. The prime rate hit 21.5% in December 1980, the highest rate in U.S. history under any President. Carter admitted in February 1980 that inflation had reached a “crisis stage.” Investments in fixed income (both bonds and pensions being paid to retired people) were becoming less valuable. The high interest rates would lead to a sharp recession in the early 1980s.

Just because Chavez was elected does not mean he is not a dictator. You know that anyone can win an election if the right pressure is put on and even if he won fair and square he can rule as a dictator. Being a dictator is a style of governing not a way of obtaining office. The way he governs is dictatorial.

It would all depend on your definition of freedom. Gays blah blah. They have as much freedom as anyone else. They can’t marry, boo hoo. Marriage has a definition. If they don’t like the definition then work to have it legally changed. If you lose quit crying and move on or work harder. I am tired of hearing about how gays have it so tough. Send them to Iran and see how free they are.

Better yet, tell them to go to one of the dozen countries where they are reported to have more freedoms. But quit whining.

How does one measure peace? We have had no active wars on our soil since the civil war. We were attacked on our soil on 9/11 but the war is not fought here. The only disruption in peace in this country is the legions of criminals fostered in liberal cities run by Democrats and allowed on the streets time and again by liberal judges. There is a bill in the Senate now-S-773- that gives Nobama the power to regulate the internet for content, restrict freedom of speech, and even shut it down in the event of an “emergency”- it also provides fines for bloggers who have content that is deemed by the regulators to be “libelous”, with fines for the blogger whose site it is, and the people who write these entries.
This is Mark Lloyd’s and Cass Sunstein’s work here- two of Nobama’s closest “advisors”.
Can you say, “Censorship? Thought you could.”

What I said is and was the truth- the trouble with you libs is I could slap you with the cold hard truth, and you still would not recognize it.
Buns- Frank, Dodd and the others are on youtube saying that the FMs are sound and indeed need LESS regulation, not more. You can find Bush calling for more regulations, in both 2001, and 2004- you can even find Clinton admitting that it is the Democrats that are blocking any reform on the FMs. Do some research, or shut up.
