Threes Again

It is said that bad things come in threes- why good things can not clump up like that is beyond me, but I am guessing there are more bad things in this world than good, thus the axiom.

Whatever the reason, now three people have died in a week- Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson.

Ed was, of the three, the most famous- oh, I know there are people who worshipped MJ, and there are, or were many guys my age who had posters of Farrah on their walls, but since this is my post, I can rank them as I see them.

Ed McMahon lasted about forty or so years in the TV business, what with his work with Johnny Carson, his endorsements and Star Search, where he was the emcee. He never had problems with drugs or any other substantial “issues”. The man performed with class and decorum, no matter the venue. This is why I place him first in the list here. He was, no matter what his politics might have been, a class act.

Farrah was a Texas gal, and I had the privilege to have met her, and her sister, since they both had second (or maybe third) homes here near where I live. She seemed to be a very nice person, and as beautiful in real life as she was on “Charlie’s Angels”. Cancer is the greatest equalizer, and it can get you no matter if you are rich or poor, good or bad, young or old. On a personal level, I think the world was a richer place for having her around.

Michael Jackson was a phenomenon of the pop world, beginning when he was four, pushed by his domineering father to be a part of the Jackson Five. With the JF, Michael had many hits- “I’ll Be There”, “ABC”, and others. Then, he struck out on his own, and together with Quincy Jones, had a string of hits. Unfortunately, there was also a strain of “he’s just not quite right” mixed in with the tremendous talent, and this was probably fed by some of his handlers over the years.

Regardless, I certainly take no joy in his death, as it seems, from accounts, that he was about to stage a comeback, which if true, would have been truly Phoenix- like for his career, and a personal triumph. To pass away on the eve of this possible resurgence is truly tragic, and I join with his fans in expressing my condolences, even if I wasn’t personally affected by his music as were some others.

The first time I heard that famous people seemed to die in threes, I was skeptical, and indeed, you can find examples of exceptions to the rule, but they do seem to be exceptions, and I for one, am glad it isn’t fives, or tens. It is just my hope that this ends it for awhile- we need no more complications in this world than we already have, nor any more sorrows.

All three families have my prayers and deep condolences.
Blake

  1. In on it not says:

It was fours. David Caradine, in Bangkok, where it seems he was…well, like the name of the town! Strung up in the closet, ruled a suicide, but that is eassier than investigations of sex-crimes in BK.
So it is four. Kung Fu was huge! Huge.

    • Blake says:

You are technically correct, however, the timeline is generally regarded to be a week- that being the case, he falls just outside of the timeline, but I agree with the weirdness of his death, perhaps he should be included.

  2. Darrel says:

Autoaxfixiation is not a “sex crime.” It’s just something that happens (usually to sexually repressed republicans) and sometimes leads to death.

“The Rev. Gary Michael Aldridge, 51, Pastor of the Thorington Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, passed away recently.

Rev. Aldridge died alone at his home, wearing in two layers of rubber clothing, with a condom-covered dildo in his anus, and his arms and legs bound behind him. Police and the coroner’s report say no foul play was involved.”

    And:

“An Alabama minister who died in June of “accidental mechanical asphyxia” was found hogtied and wearing two complete wet suits, including a face mask, diving gloves and slippers, rubberized underwear, and a head mask, according to an autopsy report. Investigators determined that Rev. Gary Aldridge’s death was not caused by foul play and that the 51-year-old pastor of Montgomery’s Thorington Road Baptist Church was alone in his home at the time he died (while apparently in the midst of some autoerotic undertaking). While the Montgomery Advertiser, which first obtained the autopsy records, reported on Aldridge’s two wet suits, the family newspaper chose not to mention what police discovered inside the minister’s rubber briefs.” [large black dildo and it wasn’t in his briefs, but at least it had a condom on it]

I would have to believe that that man was not alone, and it was probably a Liberal who was with him.

      • Darrel says:

Big surprise. Blake doesn’t know what the word “auto” in this context, means:

        ***
        auto-
        1
a combining form meaning “self,” “same,” “spontaneous,” used in the formation of compound words: autograph.

        autobiography etc.

I think it is relatively impossible to actually hogtie oneself WITHOUT HELP, hence the ignoring of the misspelled Auto- asphyxiation of the judge in question. However, I may be wrong, and Darrel knows how to hogtie oneself. I’ll let him explain.

        • Darrel says:

BLK: “he misspelled Auto- asphyxiation of the judge…”>>

So why would Blake know how to correctly spell a word like this?

The police reports and investigation found he was alone. Figuring out how to tie oneself up I give about a difficulty level of about 2 on a scale of 10.

          Not a specialty!

Unlike Blake, I didn’t even know how to spell this word Blake knows how to spell better than the judge.

ps. I knew of a local University electronics student who was found in a similarly compromising situation back in the late ’80’s. Passed out, nude, with toys, and a plastic bag over his head.

          Be careful out there folks.

        • Blake says:

As to the spelling of the word, I used spell- checker, which if I remember right, you yourself touted, Darrel- perhaps you should learn to do what you say.

        • Darrel says:

BLK: “As to the spelling of the word, I used spell- checker,…>>

          DAR
My spell checker does not show “asphyxia” (quoted above) as being wrong. That’s because it’s not spelled wrong. So it’s not clear why you think some judge spelled a word wrong.

          Try again.

Your misspelling occurred in the first of your post- not the copy and paste of the article itself. Read your WHOLE post before you write, D. Observe the FIRST word- is that the right spelling? I don’t think so.

      • Savonarola says:

Notice, folks, that here Blake explains that he has to believe things that aren’t true. Notice also that in his completely fabricated scenario, he tries to implicate a liberal.

Thanks for showing your true colors, Blake.

        • Blake says:

Sav- If you had read Darrel’s post, you might have questions also, that is if you can logically go from point A to point B.

          A. Professional crime scene investigators determined that he was alone.
          B. It is very likely that he was alone.

I can go from A to B. You can’t when such a progression makes sense. You can when it doesn’t:

          A. There is no evidence that a liberal was involved at all.
          B. Blake blames a liberal.

        • Blake says:

You still have trouble with the hog- tying part, I see. Try it sometime, it’s very difficult if it is truly hog tying.

You still have trouble with the hog- tying part, I see.

          SAV
I have less trouble with the hog-tying part than you have with the professional crime scene investigators determined that he was alone when he died part.
But, fine; merely for the sake of argument, let’s suppose he wasn’t alone. What evidence do you have that a liberal was with him?
          None.
          QED.

        • Blake says:

Sav- he may have been alone WHEN HE DIED, but you are being technically dishonest in that he could not have hog tied himself- he had to have assistance on that score.
And you are right- perhaps it was not a liberal- perhaps it was an atheist.

        • Savonarola says:

          BLAKE
you are being technically dishonest in that he could not have hog tied himself- he had to have assistance on that score.

          SAV
Wrong. It’s called self-bondage. It’s especially common among the sexually repressed.
Now, I could expect an apology from you for wrongly calling me dishonest, but with you, I won’t hold my breath. *rim shot*

          BLAKE
And you are right- perhaps it was not a liberal- perhaps it was an atheist.

          SAV
So I expose the idiocy of implicating a liberal when there’s no evidence of anybody, so you instead try to implicate an atheist?
Mr. High Road, folks! Let’s give him a hand!

Seriously, Blake, I can’t make you look any more belligerently insane than you already do.

        • Darrel says:

This is pretty obvious but perhaps it needs to be pointed out for Blake.

One doesn’t need to be hogtied to the extent that they can’t undue themselves but rather only to the degree that it provides the experience of being constrained. And in this case, it apparently was to the degree necessary to keep him from removing, *quickly enough* whatever it was that was suffocating him. But, he was on the verge, or over the verge, of passing out. That’s how this game works. Hence the danger of attempting to mechanically (and nearly) asphyxiate yourself while unsupervised.

It’s not as funny if you have to explain it. Oy.

          D.

No wonder neocons have no sense of humor.

        • Blake says:

I am glad you are having fun explaining this sexual bondage to someone who clearly does not know it as well as you all do, but what can you expect from “free thinkers”- perhaps you are freer than I in knowing more intimately than I all about sexual bondage- you might indeed be right- but the sentence was not logical, until you revealed your intimate knowledge of auto- erotica.
Thanks for the lesson, but i believe I’ll pass, you all go on without me.

        • Darrel says:

Blake pretends he doesn’t know how to tie himself up. But we know that’s false. He does it on this forum all the time.

I just like to point it out.

What word did the judge spell wrong again Blake?

          LOL.

        • Blake says:

Actually it wasn’t the judge who misspelled the word, D- the ignorance is your own, It was the first word in the first comment in which you begin to show your ignorance.
Do try spellchecker- it is a great thing, although I rarely need it.
