This Writer Is Not Partisan

There is a writer for the LA Times named Jonathan Chait. He obviously does not like President Bush. This all stems from the fact that Bush exercises. This word scribbler actually found a problem with the fact that Bush asked would be Supreme Court nominees if they exercised. It is a well known fact that people who exercise regularly are generally healthier than those who don’t. Exercise builds stamina, relieves stress, and allows one to clear up the mind after a particularly hard day. As with most of the liberal media’s reporters, this guy distorted the truth. Here is what he said about the encounter with Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III.

When asked by the president of the United States how often he exercised, Wilkinson impressively responded that he runs 3 1/2 miles a day. Bush urged him to adopt more cross-training. “He warned me of impending doom,

Here is what actually took place according to Wilkinson:

“Well, I told him I ran three and a half miles a day,” Judge Wilkinson recalled in a telephone interview on Wednesday. “And I said my doctor recommends a lot of cross-training, but I said I didn’t want to do the elliptical and the bike and the treadmill.” The president, Judge Wilkinson said, “took umbrage at that,” and told his potential nominee that he should do the cross-training his doctor suggested.
“He thought I was well on my way to busting my knees,” said Judge Wilkinson, 60. “He warned me of impending doom.”

Now it might be me but there is a difference in what was actually said and the way it was reported. This guy left out important items so he could portray the event in a different light. He tried to make it look like Bush was the one who suggested cross-training and that running would cause impending doom. The actual quote from the judge shows that after he answered that he ran (not described as impressively) 3.5 miles a day he informed the President that his (judge Wilkinson’s) doctor recommended a lot of cross training. Bush then told him he should do the cross-training as his doctor had suggested! The the judge informs us that the President thought he was on the way to busting up his knees, something Bush might know a bit about considering he had surgery to one of his. The impending doom was in reference to wear and tear on the knees.

I can not figure any reason to leave that out other than to deceive. This reporter makes a big deal out of the fact that Bush exercises. He would have you believe that Bush is the only President who ever exercised. Carter exercised, Clinton ran quite a bit and it was often the subject of news reports (mostly because he was running to a McDonalds or from an irate husband). This reporter seems to focus on Bush and his exercise routine as if some crime has been committed. This guy reports that Bush is out of touch and states:

It’s nice for Bush that he can take an hour or two out of every day to run, bike or pump iron. Unfortunately, most of us have more demanding jobs than he does.

I would doubt that anyone has a more demanding job than the President. Not just this one but any one. But in his hatred Chait makes a stupid statement. The fact that he says “us” means he includes himself. I can not imagine how a puke reporter has a more demanding job than the President.
