The Stage Has Been Set

South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed legislation banning nearly all abortions in his state. This will assuredly lead to a law suit challenging the 1973 Roe decision. This will be an interesting test of the new Supreme Court and will give many people the chance to say “I told you so.” Either the Democrats will say it when the new Justices overturn Roe or the Republicans will say it when they do not.

I have contended all along that this is a matter for the states to decide and the Federal Government does not belong making decisions about abortions. We will see where the SCOTUS stands on this. I would think that if it moves back to the states where it belongs there will be some states where it is legal and some where it is not. Want to guess on how the color distribution will work out (red and blue wise in case you had trouble with that)?

The whole thing could end up in the courts for years so this might get real ugly before it is finally decided.

    Big Dog,

I second the motion. This has always been is a matter for the states to decide and not the the Federal Government. Our supreme court should not legislate from the bench when it comes to making decisions about abortions.

And I can see a really messy battle over this issue. Every wacko is going to come out of the woodwork on this one. If they loose this, we can shed a lot of wackiness from the books.
