The Power Of Truth

My astute colleague Surfside, sent me a link to a story about the NARAL ad. They have decided to pull the ad but the strange thing is that they do not think there was anything wrong with the ad in the first place.

“We regret that many people have misconstrued our recent advertisement about Mr. Roberts’ record,” said Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America (search).

“Unfortunately, the debate over that advertisement has become a distraction from the serious discussion we hoped to have with the American public,” she said in a letter Thursday to Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who had urged the group to withdraw the ad.

Note to NARAL. A serious discussion begins with the truth. You have to start with facts before you can have a serious discussion. If you start with lies then the debate is worthless.

The one good thing is that NARAL spent a lot of money for basically nothing. The more money they lose, the better. Perhaps they will go bankrupt and we can stop being bothered by them.

Our current Jackass of the Month, Chuck Schumer had to weigh in. Her is what ole’ upchuck had to say:

“There has been much furor over these ad campaigns, but I believe that television advertisements are not the point, and should not be the focus of debate or discussion,” Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.,

I don’t remember this attitude when the donks were crying about the Swift Boat ads. Oh how unfair the ads were and they were lies out to get John Kerry. The Swift Boat ads were the point when they were hurting Kerry but when they can potentially hurt a conservative they are of no consequence. This guy proves everyday why he was elected as JOTM here at the Dog’s House.

Schumer said he intends to ask Roberts about the Constitutionality of abortion clinic protesting. I imagine Roberts answered this when he argued the case and the SCOTUS answered it when they ruled in favor of Roberts’ opinion. Yet there is a big difference between bombing a clinic in protest and peacefully protesting. I think there are laws that govern that behavior and as long as patients are not harassed and their confidentiality protected then there is no crime. Of course, I am no lawyer but I am sure there are laws that govern behavior at any kind of protest. Perhaps you can ask the person at this blog, she just took the bar. Of course, from reading the rantings at her site I am not sure you would get a coherent statement or a well thought opinion. But I digress, NARAL has pulled the ad and that is the important thing.

Once again, the truth prevails. Rush said it yesterday. When they were in power they got away with the lies. Now that they are not and with the advent of the blogosphere, they are held more accountable.

Big Dog salute to Surfside for this link.
