Gates responds to the dogmatic true believers:

***
"Gates, a Republican who served in senior positions under former President George H.W. Bush and his son, former President George W. Bush, wrote in an opinion article for the New York Times that the criticism of the plan is misguided.

"I believe this is a very pragmatic proposal. I have found since taking this post that when it comes to missile defense, some hold a view bordering on theology that regards any change of plans or any cancellation of a program as abandonment or even breaking faith," Gates said.

The objective of the missile plan is to counter the threat of missile attack from Iran, not Russia.

The Bush plan was intended to intercept long-range Iranian missiles, but Iran has yet to develop long-range missiles and U.S. intelligence recently determined that Tehran is unlikely to have such missiles until between 2015 and 2020.

As a result, Gates changed the plan to counter the possibility of short- and medium-range missiles."

BLK: "they used an ICBM missile to deliver the satellite->>

DAR
No they didn't. It was a small two stage rocket they built. Russia did this in 1957. Other countries will also. Your country isn't the only country in the world that likes to do things.

BLK: "Eastern Europe... is a buffer zone if missiles come our way>>

DAR
Does your head ever hurt from all of the stupidity bouncing around in there?

Or, how about GE getting the lion's share of power generation business, if Cap & Tax goes through- there's a conflict of interest-

OK- the CEO of GE, a member of Nobumma's staff, Jeffery Immelt, gets business with Russia after we take the missile shield off the table, and betray our allies.
I'd say that is at least as good- more to follow.

When you find any conflicts of interest as huge as having a VP hell bent on war after coming from being the former CEO of a company that makes money off of war...just let us know.

Yes- in this world, there is a quid pro quo- ESPECIALLY when you have just bent your allies over a barrel w/o lube- do you really think this was a good idea?
All Hussein has managed to do is make our erstwhile allies and friends not trust us- and Russia didn't have to give up a thing- well, perhaps GE will profit- so maybe another of Hussein's buddies, and a member of his staff, Jeffery Immelt will profit.
I seem to remember that this was a problem when Cheney was VP- all you lefties were howling about something, what was it?
Oh yeah- "conflict of interest"- do you think perhaps there might be a little of that going on?
I mean, even after GE was caught being reach- around buddies with Iran?
Hell- I can smell the hypocrisy and treason from here, and I live in Texas.

Russia is no ally. Like Blake said, if they can put a satellite in space then they have long range capability. The issue was not them being allowed to have a satellite, it was a refute of Obama's claim that they have short and mid range only.

Therefore, the long range missile threat does exist.

LGF:

A lot of people are angry at President Obama for this decision (surprise!), but it should be pointed out that the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff unanimously recommended this course of action. Are they all wrong?
