The Beatles Foretold of Obama

The Beatles (a famous musical group for those of you too young) had a song about the Tax Man. They could have been talking about the Democratic Party in general but they must have known that Barack Obama was going to appear in the future because everything in that song could apply to his plans for America. Barack Obama has already indicated that he would raise the cap on income subject to Social Security, an action that throws good money at a bad problem with addressing he root cause.

Now Obama is saying that he will raise the Capital Gains tax to no mre than 28% (nearly double what it is now). Of course Obama wants people to believe that this will only affect the rich because in the world of liberalism only rich people make enough money to have capital gains. However, about half the country owns stock and other items that would be subject to the higher tax so everyone who invests for the future will have that future attacked by Obama, the Tax Man. The rich, well they know how to shelter their money. Warren Buffet, a man Obama claims to have discussed his tax ideas with, shelters his money. John Kerry’s wife earned 2.54 million dollars in non taxable interest by investing in things she did not have to pay taxes on. The rich know how to avoid taxes. The rest of us will end up paying the 28% to fuel the government but once again, Obama misses the boat because higher taxes stifle investment and they do not address the root cause of the problem.

The real problem is out of control spending. The federal government spends more than it takes in and it continually invents new ways to spend more and more. Little is ever cut and lawmakers fight tooth and nail to keep pork projects and earmarks which waste taxpayer money. This country does not pay too little in taxes, we spend too much. Social programs account for around 70% of the budget. Congress never cuts programs or consolidates, it just makes new programs and adds money to failing ones. Couple this with earmarks and spending spirals (not like Hillary’s airplane) out of control.

Obama wants to add to the tax burden of the people in this country. There is no need for this and it is regressive. An increase in the capital gains tax will stifle investment and add to our economic woes. Increasing taxes on wealthy will lead to creation of fewer jobs. Obama claims to be for change and he claims to be progressive with new and progressive ideas but his ideas are the same old worn out, tried and failed liberal tax and spend programs that keep people enslaved to the government.

The Beatles described Obama and liberals quite well:

One, two, three, four…
Hrmm!
One, two, (one, two, three, four!)

Let me tell you how it will be;
There’s one for you, nineteen for me.
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all.
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

(if you drive a car, car;) – I’ll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit;) – I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) – I’ll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk;) – I’ll tax your feet.

Taxman!

‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Don’t ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don’t want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

And you’re working for no one but me.

Taxman!

To invoke The Beatles in this mess is deplorable. Must have been a marketing ploy. If ever there was a group of liberal thinkers, it was the Beatles and their music. The ‘young’ you mention probably know more about them than you.

  2. Big Dog says:

They might and they might not, not that I personally care. The Beatles were very liberal but like all liberals they did not like taxes that affected them.

The fact is, the song perfectly fits Obama and the liberals regardless of who wrote or sang it.

  3. Cory says:

Please be considerate of other people’s points of view. Though we might not agree, we can do it with civility.
The Beatles payed taxes in England, not the USA.

  4. Big Dog says:

Cory, no one is being uncivil.

In 1968 the Beatles wrote this song because they were paying a great deal of taxes to the United Kingdom. They realized that most of what they made was going away in taxes and that is why they wrote the song. Wilson and Heath were the PMs who were responsible for oppressive taxes especially on the wealthy.

The Beatles as well as other English groups (like the Rolling Stones) came to America to avoid the higher taxes in the UK (so they paid taxes here on what they earned).

  6. George Harrison wrote the following about the song:

“‘Taxman’ was when I first realised that even though we had started earning money, we were actually giving most of it away in taxes. It was and still is typical.”

This sentiment applies to the situation in the USA today regardless of whether or not he was in the USA at the time he wrote it.

The tax and spend mentality of the Democrats is insidiously harmful to the American people. Much of that money is wasted, goes to buy votes by moving money to one demographic (the poor) at the expense of the people who have worked hard to realize the American dream. People should not be penalized for making money and generating revenue; they should be rewarded.

Think about all the hidden taxes and you realize that it probably exceeds well over 50% of what you make if you happen to make over the poverty line.

Worse however is that the government is quite crafty in their efforts to hide these facts from the American people. How many times have you gone to the gas station and seen $2.50 a gallon + $.96 tax? Never. Why is that? They tax you little by little. License registration fee’s, disposal taxes, health taxes and on and on and on.

Thus I think Big Dog hit the nail on the head. It’s not that we shouldn’t pay taxes for infrastructure. The problem is that the taxes are being misappropriated, abused and regressive.

  7. Every sixteen years one presidential candidate will rocket to the front of the pack because, and only because, he’s the youngest out of all the contenders.

He’s always presented to us with that word “change”…as a breath of fresh air…full of hope…change…

…the implication being that we’re living in leg-irons and dungeons now, but as soon as we elect this youngest guy (and he always wins) we’re going to be liberated.

And this fellow always campaigns on raising taxes.

Could someone please explain to me what this effort to liberate us has to do with raising our taxes? The sixteen-year cycle has been functioning, unerringly, for 48 years now. There must be a connection. But raising taxes is all about forcing you to pay money whether you want to or not. They seem like opposites…to me.

Since most investerment money ends up out of our country anymore, I think you should pay 75% on capital gains. Better yet you cou move to place your money goes, then you could enjoy all the bennies that country has to offer.

  9. Mustang says:

When demagogues speak of oppression, they must be talking about extraordinary taxes for programs that do not work, and which therefore produce uneducated citizens, strips them of their human dignity, and disenfranchises them from the American dream of “ownership” by giving them (for free) a false sense of entitlement? Has anyone noticed that there is never “enough” taxes for failed programs?

I don’t fault the politicians so much as I do the voters, half of who it would appear are idiots.

  10. Big Dog says:

So Danny, because the government borrows from other countries and because they send billions of dollars to other countries, you want those of us who have nothing to do with those decisions to pay three quarters of earnings in tax?

How about we make everyone who voted for those spending our money in China and taxing us to death pay all the taxes?

  11. Mr. Music says:

The stat about more than half of Americans owning stock is somewhat misleading as most Americans that own stock own it in a 403K and would not be effected by the capital gains increase.

I do find it interesting when conservatives quote the Beatles though. The Beatles were certainly not conservatives 🙂 I know they’d be supporting Barack Obama today. I assume Paul & Ringo are, of course they are UK citizens… so there ya go 😉

  12. Big Dog says:

    Mr. Music,
Regardless of how many people own stock why should the government get to take any of the money that is earned on it? You were taxed on the money you used to buy the stock and then on the profit from the stock. The government did not do a damned thing to earn the money but they take it.

As for quoting the Beatles, no they were by no means conservative. They were actually moderately talented, drug using liberal twits. However, it is amazing how quickly liberal twits write songs crying about taxes when they actually have to pay a lot of them.

The Beatles were not conservative but this song certainly is.

  13. Mr. Music says:

Hah! “moderately talented” indeed. Greatest Band Ever in actuality. Let me guess, you’re more of a Toby Keith kinda guy? 😉

  14. Big Dog says:

Yep, moderately. They were not the greatest band ever. They were OK singers but not great, just better than average. Not to say i don’t like their music though some of it is goofy (probably influenced by drug use).

I Toby Keith as well as other country singers, I like rock, heavy metal, and I like classical music. I even like some rap music.

I appreciate almost any music because I am thankful that I can hear it (mostly).

I would however, prefer to listen to talk radio.

  15. Chris Cat says:

Conservative drivel. The fact is that under “conservative Republicans” we ended up with huge deficits and under Clinton we had billions in surplus. Republicans pretend to be for small government, then enlarge it dramatically to serve their corporate handlers. Even mainstream news noted recently (and this has almost always been the case)that most corporations pay very little or nothing in taxes because they have the power to manipulate the fiscal policy at the top in every major industry. Under conservatives, infrastructures crumble and even programs that work go down the drain because they are essentially Social Darwinists. Let’s just not tax at all and have fun traveling on interstate highways, eating unregulated food, etc etc! Those who are against taxes should just not use anything that is funded by the Federal, state and local government. Just be self-sufficient folks! Go live with the Amish–but don’t use the roads and forget WEst Nile Virus vaccine for your horses. Conservatives are just ludicrous. And no I’m not a liberal. I’m a democratic socialist, views that are firmly grounded in Catholic social teaching about taking care of the poor.

  16. Big Dog says:

Chris, obviously you failed in school.
There was absolutely no surplus of money when Clinton was in office. They say they will cut here and there and viola the budget is balanced because we won’t spend as much in the future. The fact is we still owed billions that needed to be paid off. Of course they also did not curb spending so the deficit rose. Both parties are responsible.

Our corporations pay one of the highest tax rates in the world. The absolutely pay taxes and anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron.

Let me educate you, there is no such thing as anything funded by the federal government. No government has money so no government can fund anything. Governments extort money from people who work and produce and then tey redistribute that money. If you are using a road you are using one that was paid for, or funded, by taxpayers, not the government.

We got by very well prior to the income tax being instituted so why do we need so much now? Because 70% of our budget goes to pay for unconstitutional social welfare programs. Stop taking money and redistributing it through social ponzi schemes and we will have all the things we need.

But I don’t expect you to understand.
