Texas Girl’s Death 100% Preventable

Mexican TP

Melanie Goodwin was found early Tuesday morning, she had been beaten and her body set on fire. Police are looking for a man named Ernesto Reyes, the last person she was seen with before her body was discovered. The written story does not indicate it but Fox TV reported Reyes is an ILLEGAL who has a criminal record. Since he has a criminal record the government was aware of him and since he is an ILLEGAL, this death was 100% preventable.

The police will, no doubt, eventually locate Reyes and if he is found guilty he will probably get the death penalty since Texas is a state with no problem using that form of punishment. If Reyes is the one who did this there is no doubt that he should receive the toughest penalty possible and the death penalty is the way to go. However, if he is in fact ILLEGAL then the federal government is complicit in the death of Goodwin.

The government allows ILLEGALS in here and does little to stop the tide of people who cross our borders in violation of the law, a law that our elected officials took an oath to uphold. Unfortunately, many of those politicians, from both parties, work against efforts to enforce the law and pander to the law breakers.

American citizens expect their government to protect them. The willful disregard for the law by those elected to uphold it makes our country less safe and leaves us open to these kinds of horrific crimes. Ms. Goodwin’s family should sue the government for the wrongful death of this young lady.

If this were my daughter or wife Reyes might just get 7.62mm punishment.

UPDATE: The Florida Masochist commented that Reyes is here legally, according to a news report. He has a criminal record but did not meet the requirement to be deported. If that requirement included his crimes or if he had been jailed instead of released, she would be alive. This was still 100% preventable.

And keep in mind — if he’s an illegal and he’s arrested for a crime that COULD get the death penalty, Mexico will DEMAND (and get) his deportation and he will get ZERO punishment. And then he will be free to come back into America again. Rinse, Repeat.

Welcome to the government of America today.

  3. BD,

According to this article, Mr. Reyes is a legal resident. It quotes

    Here

“On June 15, while in the Denton County Jail, Mr. Reyes was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A spokesman for the agency said Mr. Reyes was released because his criminal conviction is not classified as a deportable offense for legal residents.”

According to court records, Reyes was indicted on a charge of burglary of a building in February 2006 in Denton County. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, three years’ probation and given deferred adjudication, meaning the conviction does not appear on his record as long as he completed terms of the probation.

    Also this article.

“Then, in early February, Reyes was arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge and was later released. A Denton County assistant district attorney filed a motion April 12 to revoke his probation and enter a guilty finding on the burglary.

That document says Reyes failed to fulfill the terms of his probation by not completing a drug education program ordered by the court, by failing to attend weekly counseling, by not completing four hours of community service weekly and by possessing marijuana. He was back in the Denton County Jail in late April.

While being held there, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on Reyes, who was born in Mexico but has U.S. permanent resident status, according to officials and police records. The agency took custody of him June 20, jail officials said.

Carl Rusnok, a spokesman for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in a prepared statement Thursday that the agency eventually released Reyes because his crime was not a deportable offense for legal residents.”

TFM, thanks for the info. This is why I said IF he is illegal. Fox News had some guy on from AMW who said that Reyes was an illegal.

These articles beg the question, what does one have to do to be deported?

Ogre, quite correct and if we deport him those who allow it should be tried for the crime.

  6. Hello…i’m from Denton Texas, where it happened, and yeah, he is a legal resident. She was killed over drugs, because she was a drug addict. Glad to see someone pissing on her grave trying to turn this into a political whoohoo. Maybe you should stop watching Fox news, the governments propaganda machine.

  7. Big Dog says:

Perhaps you should learn reading comprehension. I updated this and indicated that since they did nothing about his previous crime, it was still 100% preventable.

And the person who said he was an ILLEGAL was from America’s Most Wanted, he was a guest on Fox.

You are mistaken, CNN = Clinton News Network.

Fox makes no bones about the fact that it leans right and it provides people with opposing views. The other networks actually carry the government’s water by claiming to be balanced when they are not.

Does the name Dan Rather ring a bell?

I have followed and blogged about this case on the FoxDFW site and my own. I have two kids who attend UNT. First of all, there was no prior connection between this guy and the girl. Regardless of a connection, nobody is legally permitted to kill anyone else except the executioner of a death penalty. Secondly, he had four convictions on his rap sheet at the age of twenty. We have no idea how many he had as a juvenile since those records are sealed at 18. He probably had committed enough crimes to be deported, but some soft-hearted, soft headed defense lawyer pled him down to lower charges that kept him here. This is why I find it totally IRONIC that the police think he fled to Mexico, a place he avoided as a juvey. I also would like to point out that the Mexican consulate is very helpful to their residents who get in legal problems here. While I have no actual knowledge this occurred, it wouldn’t be a far stretch for them to suggest that he cross the border as an under the table deal. BTW, there’s going to be another “protest” in Irving regarding illegal immigrants who get turned over to ICE when they can’t prove identity or responsibility during traffic stops. Heck, I would get pulled over and hauled to jail if I had a warrant out, why are they any different? This is really starting to tick me off.

    Levi Blackman,

how dare you make accusations about someone you don’t even know. melanie was a wonderful friend of mine and i cannot even imagine why you would say such things about a beautiful girl who was maliciously murdered. You are beyond wrong on every level imaginable.
