Thank God For August

It has been a long, hot summer down here in Texas, but then it is alway so here- I understand Al Gore is in Tennessee scratching his balding head, wondering where the hell the global warming went, and there are places in the Northeast that haven’t hit 90 degrees yet. Good for them- heat is only good for my arthritis, but I tend to feel the heat more than I used to. Getting older does that, I understand.

There are other reasons for being grateful for August than just that it means that for many, the summer is almost over, or that we have not had a hurricane yet- (knock on wood)- the main reason, for myself at least, is that it has managed to do what the minority party in Congress has not been able to do, slow down the passage of all these onerous, money grabbing, tax raising, freedom- restricting unconstitutional laws that the Dems have been passing so fast that they say they have not the time to read them.

It is rather funny in a sad sort of way, that the older people who this healthcare bill will affect the most, know more about the bill than do the people who wrote the monstrosity of a bill. Of course, it affects the older people directly, but the Lawmakers have opted out of taking the public option, and this is part of what fuels the flames of resentment. The “It’s good for you, but I have better,” sense of inequality that is a part of the institutional arrogance that is so pervasive in Washington.

It seems to be the same attitude that might come from a King to a serf, tossing the serf a bone, and claiming the serf has been fed. Dismissive, snobbish elitist behavior doesn’t sit well with the regular people who matter. And lawmakers, at least those with courage, are getting an earful from their constituents- the very people they are supposed to represent.

When people hear Arlen Specter, the democrat turncoat say that he has to “parcel” the billout to staffers in order to read it, he is not only not being honest with his constituents, he is not doing the job they elected him to do. He is not being paid so he can have lobster while his staff decides his position- if that is the case, he needs to be removed from his position as a Senator. It is probably time for that anyway, but his electorate will decide that.

When Sheila Jackson- Lee talks on a cell phone while her constituents try to talk with her, and explain the problems they see in this bill- well, that’s just rude. She should have had that phone put somewhere the sun don’t shine, just to make the point about politeness, but in the bigger picture, that just demonstrates the complete and utter ignorance and false “superiority” these people feel that they are entitled to.

Some of them truly do not care what the citizens have to say- they are determined to pass this bill regardless, and to them I say, Beware- just because you are in power now doesn’t mean that it will always be so. You are supposed to be responsive to the electorate, not to the Party. The Party is a collection of people who have similar opinions, the electorate are the people who decide if you are up to the task of representing them, and the Party cannot save you if the electorate decide that you are no longer fit for office. You will be on your butt looking for work like the rest of us.

Believe me, it’s not an easy life when you actually have to work for a living. Some of you lawmakers have never had to do this- you have not had a life outside of politics, so if you do not listen to your electorate, you might just be in for the rudest awakening you never wanted.

Sometimes bad laws can die an ugly death in August- and sometimes the best course of action is to allow that to happen.

It’s your career- it’s your call.

We’re watching.

Town Hall Meetings Un-American?

The poor Democrats really don’t know what to do- they thought that protesting was exclusively their domain. They don’t know how to handle this “civil disobedience” from the right, even though this stuff is tame compared to the trashing of Tom Tancredo’s free speech rights at the University of North Carolina, or the Minutemen gathering at Columbia University by members of the left. At those gatherings, people’s lives were in danger, and the protesters did not even act human. But then, that’s the left for you.

So now Babs Boxer and Di Feinstein come out and say that these town halls are rigged and “Astroturfed”, as in artificially stirred up. Right out of the radical playbook of Saul Alinsky- ridicule your opponent, and marginalize whatever they say.

Nothing could be further from the truth- These people have one thing in common, whether they are (or were) Democrats, Independents, or Republicans. They know they are being screwed to the wall by King Hussein the Spineless, and they see that he wants to dismantle or country by doing away with any incentive to succeed via the freedom to earn as much money as you can.

When you earn more, you can buy more. More security, more property, more medical care, and better medical care. This is just the truth.

And conversely, when you have less money, you buy less, you have less, and you cannot cover your family medically the way you might want. This is what  Hussein wants- to level the playing field by causing people to earn less. He does this by taxing the people who earn more, until they earn much, much less. Then he gives this money, which was not earned, but taxed, to people who did not work for it. Now these suck-ups “make” as much as the people who were taxed. Is that fair? If you are the one taxed, I bet you do not think so.

This is the Genesis of the dissatisfaction that lives in the Town Hall meetings. People are not stupid, and these people also know that these meetings are really the only time they will have to try and talk with their Representative or Senator about this Healthcare debacle. Now that people know how badly this bill will mess up the medical system, and how much it will affect them, they are becoming vocal, and this is a good thing.

Saline County resident Jeannie Burlsworth, chairman of the conservative grassroots group Secure Arkansas, was in the audience at Wednesday’s forum at Children’s Hospital. Several members of the group attended the forum to ask questions and express their concerns, she said.

“Really, I felt like Congressmen Synder and Ross got off pretty easy, considering (the fact that) the people, they’re scared. … They’re wanting some answers, and rightly so,” Burlsworth said today.

Responding to Lincoln’s comments about disruptions, Burlsworth said, “It’s sad that she can’t feel free to face her constituents and talk to them. … She has to answer to the people she represents. I’m not saying that to hurt anyone. I’m just saying that she’s got to face reality here and realize that she works for the people, not the other way around.”

Yes, it is sad that our lawmakers have no cojones when it comes to facing the people they work for- after all, the laws they want to pass will, if passed, affect us all (except these lawmakers, who will keep their gold- plated insurance plans, as will, I am sure, the unions), so it is only right that these people know that we will vote their worthless butts out of office if and when they do things against our interests.

The liberals haven’t really yet figured out that we (Independents and conservatives) way outnumber them, and we can, if so inclined, yank their sorry butts out of office and undo all that Hussein the Inept has done so far. All you have to do is make us angry, and you are doing it.

Liberals should have kept their mouths shut, and held to a lower profile, but some people just do not know when to shut up. As Ron White once said, ” I had the right to be silent, I just didn’t have the ability.”  This is a liberal trait- but we, the other side of the coin, are learning, and learning fast.

Now it is our turn, so listen up.
