This Will Be America In The Near Future

The Democrats forced their health care reform through against the will of the people. The lies they told about saving money have now been exposed as study after study, studies using the actual information and not the cherry picked items sent by the Democrats, shows that the law will cost much more than advertised and will not result in cost savings. Greater than 60% of Americans want the law repealed but their wishes will be ignored like they were when this law was jammed down their throats.

Make no mistake, this will cost a fortune and will lead to rationing of care and resources. The Canadians, long touted as the model we should emulate, are finding this out now as we proceed on the path they took. Despite what supporters say about how wonderful and cost effective the Canadian system is, the reality is that it is costing a fortune and there will be tough choices along the way.

Canada has seen a 6% increase in the cost of its system each year and it is spending more than it takes in to cover the costs. This is leading to new and increased taxes (look for that here), rationed care, more out of pocket expenses, and new methods to raise revenue as health care consumes about 40% of provincial budgets.

This is an unsustainable program and portends our future. We are behind them in establishing a socialist program for a reason but now that Obama and his Socialist Democrats have rammed this through we will be well on our way to increased taxes and another bloated, underfunded program that is poorly run.

When you give stuff away more people will get in line for it. If they do not have to pay they always want more.

But it will not be long before everyone has to pay, and pay a lot.

Just ask Canada, the model for Socialized medicine.

Never surrender, never submit.

This Is What You Get With Government Care

The federal government wants to take over health care administration in this country and effectively drive private insurance companies out of business. The plan that is being batted around Congress is a monstrocity that members of Congress want no parts of with regard to administration of their health. They want it for the rest of us.

If the government takes over health care administration then care WILL be rationed in order to save money. The almighty dollar will take precedence over the health of people, particularly the elderly who will be required to receive counseling on end of life options. The government wants to save money on health care and Social Security by putting the elderly in hospice.

Look at what is happening in the United kingdom. The National Health Service wants to reduce the number of corticosteroid injections (for back pain) that people receive from about 60,000 per year to around 3000. This means that people with back pain that is not alleviated by other means (or requires extensive surgery) will be denied the injections that take their pain away. The government is doing this to save money. It is reported that £33 million ($55 million) will be saved by denying the care.

The NHS currently issues more than 60,000 treatments of steroid injections every year. NICE said in its guidance it wants to cut this to just 3,000 treatments a year, a move which would save the NHS £33 million. Telegraph UK

The move would save the NHS money. This is the motivation in a government run system and this is what our government will do if it takes control of health care.

We do not need to completely overhaul our system and turn it into the same things that have been tried and have failed in the UK, Canada, and other countries around the world. Yes, we need some tweaking to our system but we do not need the government in control of our lives. The government already controls the elderly by holding them hostage to Social Security, we do not need to all be held hostage under the health care system they want to impose.

During this recess call your Representatives and Senators and tell them that you oppose this and that they risk losing their jobs if they vote for it.

Let’s kill this bill and then replace all of these morons.

Maybe Veterans Should Pay For Their Own Care

During the campaign there was all this noise that Bush and the Republicans had let down the veterans of this country and had not properly taken care of those who were wounded because of Bush’s “illegal” war. Obama told people that he would do many wonderful things to take care of veterans because, as we know, only the government can run health care efficiently.

It was ridiculous to even suggest that Obama cared more for vets than McCain or Bush did. Bush increased the VA Budget by more nearly 60% and McCain voted against bills dealing with vets because he believed some of the provisions in them were wrong. It is important to see all the components of a bill to avoid unintended consequences. For instance, if one did not pay attention he might sign an Executive Order lifting the ban on federal funding for Embryonic (which is a fertilized egg Mr. Clinton) Stem Cell Research and then sign a bill banning federal funding for it. That is what happens when one fails to pay attention.

The Obama administration is floating the idea of making veterans pay for health care for service connected injuries. Currently, vets who use the VA for non service related items like the flu use their private insurance to pay for it. Obama’s plan, which is being considered, would require the vets to use their priate insurance to pay for any visit including those for service related injuries.

Of course this will never fly and will be soundly defeated long before it ever gets any serious consideration. The nation has an obligation to provide the care and even Obama cannot change that. There are probably many Democrats who would like to do it but they know it would be political suicide.

But considering such a thing brings up a few interesting points. First we have to look back a few years ago when a big stink was made about the conditions under which wounded warriors were living. Walter Reed hospital came under fire because of a building it was using to house the injured. The building did not belong to the Department of the Army (DA) and the DA was not responsible for its repair. Walter Reed is on the BRAC list and is set to shut down some time in the future and that means spending money on repair is not an option. Couple all this with months of delays in care for our troops, paperwork problems, computers that run on different systems and can’t “talk” to each other, and the numerous other problems that were exposed and you end up with a full blown investigation. You end up with commanders being relieved of their command and finger pointing as to whom takes care of the troops better. What we all miss is the underlying problem and its implication on our society as a whole.

The Veteran’s Administration is a government agency that runs government health care. It is responsible for ALL the health care of our eligible veterans and it has been around for a very long time. One would think that it would be able to provide great services at low cost. It is obvious that Obama would like private insurance to pay for the service related injuries but that is not part of the deal. The government is obligated to pay for the troops injuries. What is a crime is that they must go to the VA to get the care in the first place.

Our troops should be able to go to real, non government, hospitals that are not bloated like the VA. They should be able to get care and have the government billed for it. This would reduce greatly all the problems with the health care system that is run completely by the government.

Remember now folks, the VA has had a very long time to get things right and they still have all the problems people associate with the government “red tape.” Now, the government wants to take that well run success and force it on the entire population under some misguided idea that everyone is entitled to free health care. Notice how I wrote that? You see, everyone in this country (those here legally) has a right to access to health care and as far as I can tell that exists. What people do not have a right to is for someone else to pay for it. People should be required to pay for their medical care just like they pay for other things and if they have to, it should be paid for over time. There is NO RIGHT to free health care and there is certainly nothing that says it is government’s job to provide health care.

All one needs to do is look at the VA model to know what the rest of the country will get if health care is nationalized. It will be so expensive that decisions will be made by administrators as to whom gets care. Obama wants vets to use their private insurance for service related injuries because the care of the VA is expensive. When they have effectively mandated health care coverage and have eliminated or reduced private insurance how will they reduce costs? They can’t push it to insurance that does not exist so they will ration it.

We have learned a little from this story. The first is that Obama does not care for veterans one iota more than Bush or McCain did and those suggestions in the campaign were ridiculous then as they are now. We learned that government run care is extremely expensive, wrought with inefficiency, and not on a par with that provided int he private sector. We learned that universal health care is a STUPID idea that has failed everywhere it has been tried.

Keep this in mind. When Fidel Castro needed surgery he did not allow his socialized medicine to take care of him, he flew surgeons into his country. When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a brain tumor he did not fly to Canada or Europe to be treated. He went to the best the US has to offer.

Under universal health care Kennedy might have been seen because he is part of the elite who run the country. You can bet your bottom dollar that any regular person who had the same demographics as ole uncle Ted would not have all that money spent to take care of a brain tumor. How many people from other countries (especially the wealthy, rulers and connected) come here for care? Why is that?

We never see the celebrities going to Europe, or Canada, or Cuba for their medical care. I wonder how many times Michael Moore has been treated in these other countries. It would be interesting to see what he does should he develop a terrible illness. I am betting he would not ask to be shipped to the countries he applauded in his crockumentary.

Obama’s desire to cut costs associated with veteran care is an insight into the problems of Socialized medicine which is what the VA and Medicare (as well as Medicaid) are all about. Government has never run these things efficiently. Why does anyone think that giving them a larger part of the health care system will make them do it better.

And you can bet, Obama and all the politicians will NEVER use Socialized medicine when they can be like Uncle Ted and get great care anywhere.

Some might look at the idea of charging vets for their service related as a problem and it is. However, the whole sordid mess exposes the dark underbelly of Socialized medicine and how terrible it would be for us.

Get Rid of S-CHIP Altogether

There was a big battle this past week after President Bush vetoed the huge expansion of the S-CHIP, a program designed to provide heath care coverage for the children of families who make too much to qualify for Medicaid and too little to afford private insurance. There were provisions that led us on the path to socialized medicine and they have been addressed so now I will focus on whether we need S-CHIP at all.

The argument made by those who support S-CHIP and its expansion is that people cannot afford 1200 dollars a month for insurance. We have to help the children and we have to help the poor. Now it has been shown that insurance can be obtained for around $500 a month but we can use the $1200 figure that the Democrats like to bounce around. I have come to the conclusion that we do not need the S-CHIP program and that it should be abolished because the poor can afford that amount of money. I have wondered about something for some time and Hillary Clinton’s supporters helped me to finally put the pieces together.

Let me explain. I have wondered how this country can be in the dire financial straights that the left likes to portray it. According to the left the economic numbers are bad and we have a terrible economy (despite numbers that are about the same as when the other Clinton held office). I knew this had to be wrong and I continually asked how it is that a country with such a bad economy could collectively donate so much money to political candidates. Look at the amount of money that has been donated to all of them combined and to Obama and Clinton in particular. How does a country with such a bad economy afford to give like this? Then I began to wonder about our poor and the S-CHIP.

My thoughts about S-CHIP started about the time the Hsu thing was breaking. In that story there were countless numbers of people who donated money to Hillary Clinton. These people donated $2300 despite circumstances that demonstrated that they should not have that kind of money to donate and yet they did! I mean, how could people who cannot afford $1200 for health insurance pony up $2300 for a candidate?

I thought it must be some kind of fluke but it evidently is not because today it was revealed that Hillary again received hundreds of thousands of dollars from people who make very little. This is the latest news:

Dishwashers, waiters and others whose jobs and dilapidated home addresses seem to make them unpromising targets for political fundraisers [sic] are pouring $1,000 and $2,000 contributions into Clinton’s campaign treasury. In April, a single fundraiser [sic] in an area long known for its gritty urban poverty yielded a whopping $380,000. When Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) ran for president in 2004, he received $24,000 from Chinatown. [LA Times]

The 2000 Census shows that the average annual income for that area is $21,000 or right at the poverty level. The Democrats, are pushing for an expansion of S-CHIP that would cover families that make three or four times the poverty level because they cannot afford the $1200 a month for private insurance. I think that the donations that Mr. Hsu collected from poor folks and the donations described in this article clearly show that people right at the poverty level certainly can afford health insurance premiums. Any individual or family that that has $1000-$2300 of disposable income to spend on a political donation can certainly afford to pay the measly cost of health insurance.

There will, of course, be skeptics who think I am way off base here and that I am once again bashing the poor because I am one of those cold hard Conservatives who does not care about anyone. People are entitled to that opinion but I offer this; there are only two explanations for these donations. The first is as I described and that people can afford them which means, as I stated, they can afford health care.

The second is that these are illegal donations to the Clinton campaign. Now I know that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid promised that this would be the most ethical and transparent Congress in history but that has not quite panned out and I also know that the Clinton’s have a long history of unethical and illegal behavior. However, Hillary will never admit to any wrong doing and her supporters and puppets in the media will not investigate or go after her for her ethical and criminal lapses even when video evidence of her illegal activities exists and has been introduced in court. There are a few folks in this story who say they did not donate and others who cannot be found, but it is unlikely the media will give this a real look. They have to protect mother Hillary.

Since they will not investigate, that only leaves us with the conclusion that poor people can afford their own health insurance. Unless of course Senator Clinton would like to refute that conclusion. So, having laid this all out I have this demand to make of Senator Clinton:

Either admit to your illegal behavior and withdraw from the presidential contest or introduce a bill to abolish S-CHIP. Either people need S-CHIP and you are a criminal or you are not a criminal and your poor donors, therefore, do not need the program.

The ball, as they say, is in your court Senator…
