Richard Belzer Couldn’t Polish Her Boots

I wrote earlier about actor/comedian Richard Belzer’s slam against our brave men and women serving in the military. In case you missed it, Belzer said; “You think everyone over [in Iraq] is a college graduate? They’re 19 and 20-year-old kids who couldn’t get a job.”

As I have stated, they all have jobs. These are jobs they took willingly so that lesser people like Belzer could sleep in peace at night. Belzer could not stack up to any of these fine troops. Case in point, 19 year old Monica Lin Brown of Texas has become the second woman to earn the Silver Star since WW II. This 19 year old, who according to Belzer joined the Army because she could not get a job, is a medic who was in a convoy that was struck by a bomb.

Specialist Brown grabbed her aid bag and ran to the hit vehicle while rounds were hitting all around her. There were incoming mortar rounds and she shielded the wounded with her body while she assessed them. Then, she and the others dragged the wounded to a safer location where she could tend to them and get them evacuated.

A 19 year old young lady kept her cool under direct enemy fire in order to render aid to five wounded comrades. She assessed the situation and the wounded and helped get them to a safer area. She then treated them and made sure they got on an evacuation helicopter. Once again, the enemy was shooting at her and mortars were landing all around and she kept her cool and did her JOB, something Belzer does not think she can get.

She remained cool under fire while a guy like Belzer would have been crawling into a hole, lying in the fetal position with his thumb in his mouth crying for his mommy to come make him safe. Guys like Belzer are able to talk because people like Specialist Brown are doing their JOBS. Belzer is free to talk badly about the very men and women who provide a blanket of protection under which he sleeps. He speaks up because the American military has protected his right to do so.

I know that if I were in a firefight and I could choose to have 100 Richard Belzers with me or 1 Specialist Brown, I would chose to have the real hero Brown with me. The only thing 100 Richard Belzers would be good for is to use as a wall to absorb enemy fire.

Then again, Belzer would suffer fratricide long before the enemy ever got him.

Congratulations to Specialist Brown. May God bless her and all our brave men and women who WORK very hard to keep us safe.
