Government Profiling?

If the government has a hunch that a person who looks Middle Eastern is up to no good and stops that person at the airport or as he crosses the border the Muslim groups (I know, not all Middle eastern people are Muslim) and the liberal PC crowd scream about racial profiling. Never mind the fact that Middle Eastern is not a race, the fact is people who do not fit the demographics of a terrorist are stopped and checked while those who fit the demographics of most who have committed acts of terror are waved through.

But the federal government, the one that is loathe to be associated with “racial” profiling (remember, it is not a race) has no problem taking the electronic devices of people, on a hunch, and copying all the information on those devices.

The government is arguing that is should have the right to take YOUR property and copy YOUR information to see if you have child pornography or information indicating you are a terrorist (or support terror) based on a hunch.

In other words, if you look like someone who might have that stuff on your electronic device the government thinks it has the right to take your stuff and copy it without a warrant or probable cause.

You see, if you LOOK like the people responsible for most of the terror we can’t profile you but if they have a hunch your electronics might have something illegal on them then they can stop you and take your stuff and copy it.

The government is out of control. Without probable cause they have no reason to search your stuff. If they do not have enough cause to get a warrant then they do not have enough cause to search your stuff, period.

The government is busy collecting information from Google and Verizon (while forbidding them from informing you your information is being released) without warrants, Eric Holder is snooping in the emails and phone records of reporters, the IRS is harassing conservative groups and the NSA is collecting phone records by the millions each day.

We live in a country that is rapidly becoming a totalitarian state where Big Brother snoops in all of our business. We are subject to more harassment than citizens of Germany in the 1930s.

This is a violation of our constitutionally protected rights and it needs to stop. We cannot allow them to do this and we can’t allow the courts to let them do it. Even if they pass some law or the court says it is OK it is NOT.

Everything Hitler did was legal under German law.

That did not make it right.

Take a stand America. It is time to abolish the IRS and severely limit the size, scope and power of the government.

And it is time to kick the bums out of office (and preferably to a jail cell).

I Was Profiled In Arizona

I am in Arizona to attend a conference (no boycott here) and something quite troubling happened to me. I was asked for my identification. In fact, I was asked for my ID several times within the first hour of being in the state. I was asked for identification when I picked up my rental car and then I was asked for my identification when I checked into the hotel. Fortunately for me I had identification that meets the Arizona requirement to assume I am here legally. I am, of course, an American citizen and would not have been insulted if I had no ID and they checked my immigration status.

It is quite obvious that I do not meet the demographic of an illegal in this part of our country but we cannot single out people based on what they look like because that would be profiling and even though profiling is an important part of police work, it is not allowed unless the government wants to go after conservatives. Then it is OK for them to put out reports that profile certain groups of people and decide that they might be domstic terrorists based on the profile.

That is the only time it is allowed. Nearly all acts of terrorism over the last 20 years or so have been committed by Middle Eastern men between the ages of 18 and 45. Armed with that handy bit of information our government refuses to give closer scrutiny to that group so as not to offend the people most likely to commit terror. Instead the government would rather harass little old ladies. As far as I know, little old ladies have never been involved in terrorist acts here in the US.

I had no problem showing my ID in Arizona. The truth is I am asked for my ID thousands of times a year. I was asked for my ID by TSA today before I was allowed to board the aircraft. If I did not have ID they could have denied me entry or detained me. I am asked for my ID when I travel, cash a check, use a credit card, when I got my license, when I took my nursing license exam and my specialty certification exam, my EMT exam, and I was asked to show my ID when I applied for (and when I renewed) my passport. I was even asked for ID when I opened a bank account and the information collected was shared with DHS. If I did not do things right I would have suffered the consequences. Illegals, on the other hand are not suffering enough yet because they keep coming here.

Those are perfectly OK in the eyes of our government and if I did not have ID the government would be OK with anything negative that happened as a result of not having the ID. Arizona asked me for ID and I would have been refused my car and my hotel room without it.

But ask certain other groups for ID and then have consequences for anyone who does not have it and all hell breaks loose.

Only in the backwards world of progressives can the government side with illegals and another country against a state for actually upholding the law and at the same time ignore sanctuary cities who by definition break the law and encourage others to do so.

How does the left justify this?

As for you Arizona, I was happy to provide my ID and did not consider it profiling, racial or otherwise. I considered it following the rules…

Mexico Issues Arizona Travel Alert

The new law in Arizona is already having a good effect in that Mexico has issued a travel alert to its citizens warning them about travel to Arizona without proper documentation. In other words, they are being warned not to get caught there illegally. Part of the message to Mexicans is:

“There is an adverse political environment for migrant communities and all Mexican visitors,” Mexico’s ministry said. “It’s important to act carefully and respect the local laws.” Bloomberg

Notice how the Mexican government thinks it is important to respect the laws in order not to get caught but has no such feeling about respecting the law that involves coming here illegally? Mexico has helped its people sneak across the border. That government has encouraged people to sneak in and printed books to assist them in doing so. The government there was not too concerned about respecting the law then.

Now that Arizona has finally clamped down on illegal immigration the government of Mexico wants its people to respect the law but only to avoid getting caught.

There are a lot of people upset about this law but it is a good one and it is written so as to prevent people from being profiled. The people who are upset are those who broke the law and are here illegally and those who believe in open borders and want to assist those who break the law.

About 70% of the legal residents in Arizona think the law is good and that matters more than what those who are here illegally think and it certainly matters more than what those who are assisting those who are here illegally think.

The Obama administration is looking into legal action against Arizona with regard to this law. Good luck with that.

The same people who will require us all to prove we have health insurance are loathe to require people to prove they are here legally.

And that about says it all with regard to the ineptitude of our government.

The Elites

Well, well, well- here’s a story that has it all, a summer tearjerker about a black liberal university professor who was obviously “mistreated” by police because he was arrested for being the wrong color in the wrong place (at least if you believe him).

This story has it all, humor, pathos, and stupidity on an Epic scale. You have to figure that, because Al Sharpton has a cameo role in this farce, and you expect to hear him talk of Tawana Brawley in the same breath as he speaks of  Harvard Professor Henry L. Gates Jr.

Professor Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct, but the initial incident stemmed from the fact that Police officers were attempting to investigate reports of two men with backpacks, apparently trying to force a door open in a Cambridge neighborhood home. It was Professor Gate’s home, but how do the police know this?

Supporters of a prominent Harvard University black scholar who was arrested at his own home by police responding to a report of a break-in say he is the victim of racial profiling.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. had forced his way through the front door of his home because it was jammed, his lawyer said Monday.

Cambridge police say they responded to the well-maintained two-story home near campus after a woman reported seeing “two black males with backpacks on the porch,” with one “wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry.”

By the time police arrived, Gates was already inside. Police say he refused to come outside to speak with an officer, who told him he was investigating a report of a break-in.

Professor Gates could have made all of this go away if he had cooperated with police instead of being confrontational, but apparently, as comedian Ron White once said, ” I had the right to be silent, I just didn’t have the ability.”  And so the Professor, who you might think was smart, (after all, he IS teaching your children), decides to get all bowed up at these poor police officers, who would have liked nothing better than to peacefully resolve this and move on.

“Why, because I’m a black man in America?” Gates said, according to a police report written by Sgt. James Crowley. The Cambridge police refused to comment on the arrest Monday.

Gates — the director of Harvard’s W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research — initially refused to show the officer his identification, but then gave him a Harvard University ID card, according to police.

“Gates continued to yell at me, accusing me of racial bias and continued to tell me that I had not heard the last of him,” the officer wrote.

Gates said he turned over his driver’s license and Harvard ID — both with his photos — and repeatedly asked for the name and badge number of the officer, who refused. He said he then followed the officer as he left his house onto his front porch, where he was handcuffed in front of other officers, Gates said in a statement released by his attorney, fellow Harvard scholar Charles Ogletree, on a Web site Gates oversees, TheRoot.com

Good- I get so tired of people who decide that their rights are violated, when, if they could step back for a moment, they would, I am sure, be extremely disappointed to find out that it is not about them– not their blackness, not their sex, not their religion, but just about what appeared to a woman like a couple of men breaking into a house. It IS  the police’s job to investigate complaints, and when someone begins cussing them, and making their job harder, bad things occur.

He was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after police said he “exhibited loud and tumultuous behavior.” He was released later that day on his own recognizance. An arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 26.

Gates, 58, also refused to speak publicly Monday, referring calls to Ogletree.

“He was shocked to find himself being questioned and shocked that the conversation continued after he showed his identification,” Ogletree said.

Ogletree declined to say whether he believed the incident was racially motivated, saying “I think the incident speaks for itself.”

Some of Gates’ African-American colleagues say the arrest is part of a pattern of racial profiling in Cambridge.

Allen Counter, who has taught neuroscience at Harvard for 25 years, said he was stopped on campus by two Harvard police officers in 2004 after being mistaken for a robbery suspect. They threatened to arrest him when he could not produce identification.

latimes.com

And what’s with the old “I don’t have identification?” There’s a guy who has taught neuro- science for 25 years, and can’t remember to keep his ID on him? He didn’t even have a University ID? But I digress-

The Rev. Al Sharpton said he will attend Gates’ arraignment.

“This arrest is indicative of at best police abuse of power or at worst the highest example of racial profiling I have seen,” Sharpton said. “I have heard of driving while black and even shopping while black but now even going to your own home while black is a new low in police community affairs.”

Ogletree said Gates had returned from a trip to China on Thursday with a driver, when he found his front door jammed. He went through the back door into the home — which he leases from Harvard — shut off an alarm and worked with the driver to get the door open. The driver left, and Gates was on the phone with the property’s management company when police first arrived.

Ogletree also disputed the claim that Gates, who was wearing slacks and a polo shirt and carrying a cane, was yelling at the officer.

This is a very spoiled and “entitled” man- a liberal to be sure, but that isn’t an indictable offense, just an indication of  how far from common sense he has drifted. Perhaps the tenure had gone to his head- perhaps the arrogance, the conceit, the sheer effrontery that has wormed its way into his soul has kept him from seeing the facts, but he wasn’t arrested for “going to your own home while black”, but of failure to identify oneself, and of course- the biggie- disorderly conduct for verbally abusing the officers.

This is how ridiculous liberals get- they blow up a ten minute incident into a several thousand dollar court engagement, complete with a clown, Al Sharpton. One can only hope that he learned from the Tawana Brawley incident, but you know, probably not.

Because championing the truth is not how he rolls.

With him, it’s all about the AL.

Can America Learn from Israel?

Last week a Palestinian terrorist took a weapon to a Jewish Seminary and started randomly blasting, shooting hundreds of bullets a minute. He killed eight children and could have killed many more if not for the acts of an Israeli man. Yitzhak Dadon, an off duty military officer shot the terrorist twice in the head killing him. Dadon was carrying a weapon like many other Israeli men often do. Lesson number one, an armed citizenry is the best way to protect people from violence. But Big Dog, eight people died. Yes they did and that is tragic but think of how many more might have been killed waiting for the police to show up. Think Virginia Tech and how many people died there because no one had the means to stop the attacker. If one person at VT had a gun the outcome might have been different. However, since VT is a gun free zone the only one with a gun is the killer. Most recent shooting in America have happened in areas designated as gun free. Unfortunately, this uses the same logic that gun control laws use and that is, criminals will somehow obey the law.

Lesson two occurred during the funeral procession when a man stooped down to pick up a piece of paper that was on the ground. The police immediately surrounded him to determine what he was up to. They wanted to make sure he was not getting a gun out of his pant leg or picking up a stone.

They would not comment on why they had stopped Mr Muniyeh. He may have been stooping to pick up a stone, they suggested, or to pull out a firearm. He looked Arab, they concluded. [emphasis mine] Times Online

The police concluded that he looked Arab so they checked him out. Profiling at its best. The Israelis have figured that the people who are trying to kill them are Arabs so they look for people who look like Arabs and check their behavior. In America, we let people in this demographic board a plane without question because the authorities are worried some terrorist organization like CAIR will make a stink. CAIR is very important with regard to the protection of terrorists and since our government lacks the testicular fortitude to smack them down, Middle Eastern men board aircraft unabated while little old ladies get strip searched. Lesson two is very simple; profiling works. Law enforcement does it all the time except to a few select groups who use the status of victim quite well.

All law abiding citizens in the US should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon if they desire. It is a right reaffirmed in the Second Amendment and one that is routinely ignored by the government. Law Enforcement should profile based upon the probability of a particular group committing a crime based upon the incidence of that group actually committing said crimes. It would put the criminals on the defensive and let the little old ladies get on the plane without being harassed.

Perhaps our government should pay a bit more attention to these things because, after all, it’s for the children.
