Copyright © 2010 Blake. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/once-again-with-feeling/.

Here we go, on the ferris wheel of price increases with regards to gasoline and heating fuel, and all other related products, as the price of a barrel of crude rises yet again to it’s highest price this year. In a land with common sense, this would mean that drilling off of our coasts would make sense especially given the lag time between beginning the process, and actually obtaining the oil.

We, however, do not live in a land with leaders who have a lick of common sense when it comes to this issue. Instead, they prefer to run around like Chicken Little, screaming at the “ecological ” damage done to the environment. Truth be told, more damage is done by the oil tankers that ship the crude from far away places, than the pipelines that the oil flows from in the Gulf of Mexico, or the Alaska pipeline.

When the price of crude fell sharply last year, most people breathed a sigh of relief,as if the crisis was behind us- not so, as this is just the deep breath before the plunge into icy water. If we do not begin to drill now, then we will continue to be reliant on the Arab world, or Chavez, both of whom are repugnant to me. It would be much better to use our own petroleum reserves while we search for an alternative that might be as long as ten years away from commercial viability.

Pump prices have been on a tear as the price of crude oil—the biggest single factor in gasoline prices—has more than doubled from a low point this spring.

On Wednesday, the national average price for regular rose a fraction of a penny to $2.63 per gallon, according to motor club AAA. That’s up 40 cents from a month ago and just over $1 since the first day of 2009. In Houston, the average edged up nearly half a penny overnight to $2.43 a gallon, and is up 34 cents from last month, AAA said.

Crude oil prices are surging as investors pour cash into commodities as a hedge against the weakening U.S. dollar. The price got another boost Wednesday as traders reacted to Energy Department data showing a higher-than-expected drop in U.S. oil inventories, a sign that supplies are tightening, demand increasing and the economy improving.

Light, sweet crude for July delivery rose $1.15 to $71.16 a barrel, its highest price this year.

chron.com

Oil rigs don’t just float into place and begin pumping oil, which is why we need to begin now, or we will be forever behind the curve. That might sit well with Hussein, but the rest of us, normal American people, should not get this kind of “change” in our lives. We have already suffered these Liberal fools quite enough, thank you, and we would like to begin a return to sanity.

Part of this return would be to drill for the oil here while we figure out the best way to go. Using a shotgun approach to solve the energy crisis is counterproductive- what is needed is focus on what works. In some places, solar might work- in others, wind may do it, although I personally have my doubts about wind.

Nuclear power should be used more for everyday residential and commercial use, and I believe that we can make coal much cleaner, but we won’t know this if we rely on people who say no- as my mother used to say, ” “Can’t” never could.”

Total U.S. petroleum product deliveries, including gasoline, fell to their lowest point since 1998 during the first four months of the year, according to the American Petroleum Institute, an industry trade group in Washington. The decline came despite pump prices that hovered around $2 a gallon nationwide for most of that time.

Now, some experts fear higher pump prices will cut deeper into the pockets of Americans and prove a drag on the rebound of the U.S. economy.

“A lot of what drives the U.S. economy is consumption,” said Ken Medlock, a fellow in energy studies at Rice University’s Baker Institute. “If we’re not consuming, we’re not going to recover at the same kind of pace we would otherwise.”

“I think if we had stayed in the low $2 range, we probably would have seen much stronger demand this summer,” he said.

This week, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said it expects regular-grade gasoline prices to peak in July, hitting a national average near $2.70 per gallon.

chron.com

Now, on the one hand, decreased usage means that pollution will be less, but the other side of the equation is that reduced usage means that our economic recovery will be prolonged.

The drilling off of the East and West coasts could prove a boon financially to the states, like California, and New Jersey, both of whom desperately need the money, and also the Federal government, which would make money both in the sale of the leases, and the taxes on gasoline refining and sales.

And still you have some people in these respective governments turning a blind eye to the realities of the situation.

Are they waiting for the return of four dollar gas?

Copyright © 2010 Blake. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/is-it-really-green/.

I have written a couple of times on the so- called “Green” technology, and what I believe is the future of energy, and I have been taken to task for not having a coherent grasp of the minutia relating to the various technologies of this “new” change in direction. I have said that I would be glad to embrace new Hybrid, or electric, or hydrogen cars, IF THEY WORKED, and if there was an infrastructure in place to refill, or re- charge, or re- whatever needs to be done.

But I have always felt that if you have to travel fifty miles round trip, in order to fill your car, you are not saving money, you are not reducing your precious “carbon footprint”, and you have not done the environment any favors in any way.It does not matter what fuel you use, if you have to travel to the ends of the earth to get it. I mean let’s face it, “Dilithium Crystals” are not real, and our energy needs are.

This is why I have advocated for the continued use of present- day fuels, which means (by virtue of common sense), that we need to drill for oil and gas on both coasts. Our finances dictate that we use our own fuel, and refine it here, and sell it here. This keeps the money at home. In the meantime, the search and refinement of alternative energy proceeds. After all, the company that perfects the next generation of usable energy is the company that can feasibly write its own future.

What I find incredible is the news that a nuclear reactor that would have provided energy to all of southeastern Texas was denied the issuance of Government surety bonds, which effectively killed the project, as it needed the bonds to help develop the capital needed to proceed. The environmentalists killed it, just as they have killed any further coal- fired plants, and here is the problem with these nitwits- they have NO alternatives. None- and that is not acceptable. The saying, Lead, Follow, or get out of the way comes to mind. The mindless throwing up of roadblocks is not adding anything positive to the discussion.

Because, let’s face it- Progress will happen, that is written in stone- the only question is in what direction progress will take. Standing pat, as the enviro- nuts seem to want, is impossible, so it would seem to me that if they really want to be a part of the discussion, they should open their mouths and say something, but say something that keeps the discussion on topic.

The Republican party has been called the party of No, but it is really the environmentalists, who say no to oil and gas, say no to coal, say no to nuclear power, say no to ethanol, and say no to both solar and wind, because the laying of transmission lines would hurt a snail darter fish, or some lizard. Here’s a thought- the lizards can probably crawl over the transmission lines as they do at my house. Give me a freakin’ break- animals are more flexible than you might think, and accept things like pipelines and transmission lines in their midst easier than you know.

In the end, there are two ways humanity can proceed- we can find and use ALL available forms of power we can harness, or we can kill off at least half of all humanity, which will free up demand on the uses of energy, won’t it? Which one do you think would be more desirable? More logical? More user- friendly?
Of course, the other way would give us more elbow room, but what if you are on the wrong side of THAT equation? Whoops! There go your hopes and dreams. No, I think that if you are logical about this, and not blindly adhering to an agenda that has ulterior motives, you would have to agree that the only logical way is the first one I described, using all available forms of power, and keeping our money here at home.

Reviling oil and gas, as some in the “green” movement are doing, is doing them no favors, because just what are they using for power while they are building their brave new world? Rubber bands? No- they are using gas powered machines- but they are not liking it. Still, it’s better than rolling the wind turbines over logs to get them where they want, I think even they would agree.

Sometimes being a hypocrite is the best you can do- do the ends justify the means?

Now we’re cookin’ with gas.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/obama-and-the-democrats-lie-about-drilling/.

During the latter part of the campaign season gasoline rose to about $4.00 a gallon while oil was pegging at $150 a barrel. This all took place under the Democrats who had control of Congress at the time. Now I don’t particularly think any member of our government has control over oil prices but our friends on the left seem to believe that the “oil men” Bush and Cheney controlled oil prices. I would not normally attribute oil prices to a political party but Nancy Pelosi made the promise in 2006 that if we voted Democrats in control they had a plan to lower gas prices. Since she said that they would do it then it means she could do it. Since it did not happen then it stands to reason the Democrats caused it not to.

During the same period of $4.00 gas the Democrats were getting hammered from all sides on the subject of drilling for our own oil. The call to drill here and drill now drowned out the cries of the tree huggers. Sarah Palin brought some sense to the issue because, unlike all the others, she actually has experience in this area. It did not take long for Obama to change his stance and say that he too was in favor of responsible drilling. The Democrats began to say they were willing to work with Republicans to drill responsibly. They even let the offshore drilling ban expire.

I warned at the time that they were lying. They had no intention of allowing drilling and they only said and did those things to influence people to vote for them. The high cost of gas was turning voters away and the Democrats said and did things to turn that trend around. I knew all along and stated in several posts that the Democrats expected to win the White House and make big gains in Congress and that they would put a stop to drilling and would reinstate the ban. It looks like that is taking place and Obama, Mr. I’m all for responsible drilling, not opposed to this effort. Democrats are working very hard to ensure we will never be able to drill for oil on any of our property including Alaska, a state rich in resources. Sarah Palin has written an article taking Democrats and Obama to task for breaking their word on drilling.

As I traveled throughout the country campaigning for vice president, I was glad to hear politicians, including Barack Obama, promise that “everything was on the table” to address America’s great challenges. I also found that when Americans were apprised of the facts, most people became supporters of responsible oil and gas drilling in Alaska. So, I want to remind our national leaders of this promise and make the case against this legislation:

•Oil from ANWR represents a huge, secure domestic supply that could help satisfy U.S. demand for more than 25 years.

•ANWR sits within a 20 million-acre refuge (the size of South Carolina), but thanks to advanced technology like directional drilling, the aggregated drilling footprint would be less than 2,000 acres (about one-quarter the size of Dulles Airport). This is like laying a 2-by-3-foot welcome mat on a basketball court.

•Energy development is quite compatible with the protection of our wildlife and their habitat. For example, North Slope caribou herds have grown and remained healthy throughout more than three decades of oil development. Most of the year, our coastal plain is frozen solid and thus characterized by low biological productivity.

•ANWR development would create hundreds of thousands of good American jobs, positively affecting every state by providing a safe energy supply and generating demand for goods and services. Star Tribune

The entire article is worth the read and it shows that Palin has a better grasp then all these beltway bandits who have little experience in the real world. Barack Obama said he was open to drilling and other responsible methods of energy independence but the reality is he and the Democrats are working on a bill that will take away part of the argument. The bill means that Democrats are not willing to drill responsibly and they are not open to discussion. They lied.

Our country has a lot of resources but the Democrats are committed to the environmental lobbyists and their desire to use alternatives that are either expensive or have not been developed yet. We have oil and we should continue to use it until we have better options.

It only makes sense to use our own. Since it makes sense it will not happen.

Lying seems to be a common theme in this administration. Like I always say, never trust a Democrat.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/time-to-bail-out-oil-companies/.

When oil companies were making record profits Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton said they were going to take those profits and spend them on the people. They would impose huge windfall profit taxes on the “excessive” profits because it just isn’t right, in their minds, for private businesses to make too much.

The oil companies, they claimed, were manipulating the markets and causing fuel prices to rise. No, drilling was not the answer though Obama bought into that for political gain. It was not a matter of our oil going unused, it was the evil oil companies manipulating markets. If they could do that then why are they not manipulating them now and causing the price of a barrel of oil to go up?

Looks like we will now have to send the oil companies some of the bailout money. Royal Dutch Shell posted its first loss in 10 years. The loss was 2.81 billion dollars.

If Obama wanted to take their money when they earned it then it only stands to reason he has to give them money when they don’t.

I am willing to bet that does not happen.

This just shows how little Obama and his Democrats understand the free market.

He said he wanted to redistribute the wealth but I bet that was only when he was taking it from evil oil companies. I bet he will not redistribute it the other way…

I don’t believe the oil companies should get money if they are not doing well but I also do not believe the government should take their money when they are profitable.

In other news about fossil fuels, thousands of gas stations in California will close by 1 April rather than spend the huge sums of money it would cost to get them up to speed with some strict new environmental standards being imposed by the state.

Looks like the already cash strapped state will be earning fewer business tax dollars.

UPDATE: Looks like Exxon will break its record for profit. I guess it will have to give money to Shell under the redistribute the wealth plan.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/pelosi-and-hoyer-no-match-for-thinking-people/.

A group of protesters chanting “Drill Here, Drill Now” in front of Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer were confronted by the House leaders when Pelosi asked if it was OK to drill their brains. Nancy, it is only OK to drill a person’s brains when that person wants to become a liberal Democrat. Then and only then may you remove brains.

Hoyer, a Democrat from Maryland, stated:

“sophomoric chanting” won’t solve the energy crisis and that “all thinking Americans know” — stressing the word “thinking” and looking at the crowd — that America doesn’t have a quarter of the word’s fossil fuels yet uses a quarter of the world’s energy. Politico

Hoyer couldn’t find his ass if his hands were in his back pockets and he is talking about people who think. Here are a few thoughts for him:

Was it not Obama who said he was open to drilling for oil and did not Nancy Pelosi then follow suit? According to Hoyer, are they unthinking?

Have not the Democrats been using sophomoric chants throughout the convention? Pelosi had them chanting that Obama was right and John McCain was wrong.

Hoyer keeps talking about solving the energy crisis but Democrats have been touting alternative energies for years. Nothing has panned out yet and we can’t get rid of oil until we have something else that works as well.

If they are now acting as if drilling won’t matter is it safe to assume the remarks about being ready to drill were a ruse to fool people into voting for them? (as I predicted earlier).

Is Pelosi aware that we could have oil flowing in 1-3 years (not 10) and that an increase in supply will reduce the prices far more than a few cents?

If the protesters are “2 cents in 10 years” as Pelosi called them, does that make her no sense ever?

These people do not care about the country. They only care about being reelected and they will say anything to accomplish that. They have had an abysmal record since they took control despite all the lies Pelosi told to embellish their record. They are do nothing losers and they should all be voted out of office.

Hoyer is a mental midget who suffers from such a chronic case of cranial rectitis that he needs a silica umbilicus to see where he is going.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/democrats-will-offer-drilling-plan/.

Demonstrating that they will change positions in order to win an election, the Democrats will offer an offshore drilling plan when the Congress reconvenes in September. The Democrats have been opposed to drilling despite record gas prices and huge amounts of money going to foreign suppliers. Though the Democrats have had a clandestine plan for vulnerable members to support drilling, this plan will mark the first time they have openly, as a group, offered a plan that will allow drilling on our own property.

I had predicted this would happen once Barack Obama had changed his position on drilling. Obama criticized John McCain for a similar reversal earlier in the year when Democrats did not support a plan to ease the price of gasoline which has risen since they took control of Congress. I knew once Obama threw his party under the bus in order to align himself with public opinion that it would not be long before the entire party began lining up to change their opposition to offshore drilling. As it turns out, they have embraced much of what John McCain wants (and that Obama followed on) so who is the real leader here?

In reality, this is a ruse. The Democrats are saying they will have a vote and the process will go along with them demanding that oil be released from the strategic reserve as part of any deal. The legislation will probably drag on until they recess prior to the election. If anything is passed they will recess confident that they will win the presidency and more seats in Congress. When they reconvene in January they will have the votes they need to overturn anything done prior to the election. If the Republicans capitulate and allow the release of oil then the Democrats will have gotten what they wanted and can reverse positions.

This is not a far out idea. They reversed their position on drilling in order to win the election. They would like to see prices go down prior to November so they can lull voters into a false sense of security. Once they take control they can undo all of it and voters will not be able to do anything about it. If they changed position to win the election what makes anyone think they won’t change again after it?

Nancy Pelosi is playing games with the public and with our energy future in order to win an election. She has been opposed to drilling and for energy independence her entire career and she is in the pockets of the environmentalists who want us eating dirt and walking everywhere. There is no way she will do anything that will permanently tick off that group of supporters.

People who vote to put these cretins in control of our government will get what they deserve. If voters were smart I would say that it might be good for them to suffer with the pain for four years so that they could learn a hard lesson. Unfortunately, the bulk of the voting public has the attention span of a goldfish and it never remembers how badly it was screwed in the last election. All the Democrats have to do next time is promise more hope and change and people will line up to sip from the Kool Aid cistern.

Democrats are dangerous to this country and we should never, ever trust them.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/dont-let-pelosi-fool-you-with-slick-oil-talk/.

I told you it would not be long. I was right on top of it after Barack Hussein Obama stated that he would be open to drilling for our own oil. I remarked at that time that it would not be long before people from the left who opposed drilling would jump on board. That has happened as of this week when Nancy Pelosi stated that she would be up for drilling our own oil with certain conditions. One of those conditions is a release of oil from the strategic reserves which is unwise to say the least.

Pelosi called the Republican request to drill a hoax and stated that she was trying to save the planet. She adjourned the House for a five week vacation without scheduling a vote and had all the lights and cameras turned off on the way out the door. When Republicans stayed behind and started making noise Barry Obambi changed his mind (dare I say flip-flopped) and stated he would be OK with drilling, and basically endorsed the plan John McCain has been pushing.

I knew it would not take long. Pelosi was (and still is) vehemently opposed to drilling. She knows that some of her Democrats are vulnerable and has secretly told them to push for drilling so they can win over people in their districts. Pelosi knows that she cannot go against Obama if she wants him to have a chance to win so she has to take a position under the bus in order for Obama to look like a leader. Pelosi is also aware that the ban on drilling must be renewed each year and it looks like she will not have the votes to renew it. If they wait too long all the names of the Democrats who dare to vote against it will be fresh in the minds of voters come election day.

But none of this should fool anyone. Pelosi is only playing to the majority of people who want us to drill for our own oil. The oil off our coasts, in ANWR, and the shale in the west will provide us with oil for many years to come especially when we consider how many places there are to get the oil. But none of this will matter because it is all smoke and mirrors. Pelosi believes that Obama will win and that she will pick up plenty of seats in the House and that the Senate will gain as well. With a Democratic president and a huge majority in Congress Pelosi will be able to bring the issue up for a vote after the new president and new Congress swears in. At that time they could put a complete halt to any drilling and take us right back to where we are now. She can do this and there won’t be a thing the American public can do about it.

Don’t let Nancy Pelosi or any other Democrat including Hopie Obama fool you. They will say anything to win but as soon as they do they will forget any promise they made and will impose their wills, their true intentions, upon us.

And just remember, there is no cure for buyer’s remorse. We will have to wait until the next election to express our dissatisfaction and by then most people will have forgotten. It has been said that we get the government we deserve.

Certainly we deserve better than this.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/obama-does-not-need-fact-checkers/.

Barack Obama has had a devil of a time getting ads out that were factually correct. His ads tout bills he never voted on or sponsored and they make false claims about his opponent. None of this really matters because the people who support Obama are star struck and would believe anything he says. This is why he does not need fact checkers. They would never consider the truth as an alternative and in the unlikely event that people start to notice the chosen one shouts Hope and Change and all the supporters go back into a trance.

Obama’s latest ad calls John McCain a tool of Big Oil (which is better than being a tool, like The One). Obama makes this claim because McCain has received money from oil companies and, according to Pbama, has voted to give Big Oil tax breaks. There is just one small problem with these two assertions. Obama has received money from Big Oil so he has no moral high ground from which to cast stones. But at least these donations are legal, unlike many of Obama’s other donations.

The other problem with the ad is the claim about tax breaks. McCain voted against a bill that would give a break to oil companies (and other energy producers). Get that, McCain voted against it. The Obama ad shows Bush and McCain and the narrator states; “After one president in the pocket of big oil — we can’t afford another.” The Bill McCain voted against was one the president favored so it would appear that they were not two peas in that pod.

But the interesting thing that will likely escape the Obamabots is that Obama voted FOR the bill giving the oil companies tax breaks… Obama voted for the very item his ad goes after McCain for.

Obama is out touting his energy plan. He wants to take money from the profits of the oil companies and give each person $1000 to help afford gas or heating oil. When the government seizes the assets of a private company and then distributes them to the people, this is Socialism. It is redistribution of wealth plain and simple. Once again Obama shows he is a Socialist. BTW, windfall profit taxes did not work the last time a Democrat tried them.

I am going to write this again because the mind numbed Obama followers and the idiot Democrats in Congress seem to have trouble with it. They use terms like obscene profits, record profits and other words to make it seem as if the oil companies are above any other company and are screwing people. This is simply NOT the case. The profit margins of the oil companies is between 8 and 12%. This is a perfectly acceptable profit margin and it is not obscene. The dollar amounts are hig but the percentage is normal. Many companies have profit margins much larger than Big Oil. Coke and Microsoft are two. The government is not confiscating their assets and giving it to others.

Let me be clearer for the really slow liberals (but I repeat myself), the oil companies make 8-10 cents per gallon of gas sold. That is it, 8-10 cents. The government, on the other hand, takes 18.4 cents per gallon (and this does not include what the states take). This means that the government is taking in more than the oil companies are on the sale of gasoline. Where are the cries about obscene profits the government gets for a product it has nothing to do with? You want price gouging, the federal gas tax is it.

It is very simple folks. Supply and demand. If we drill our own we will increase supply and the price will go down.

Copyright © 2010 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/obamas-unspoken-comment-on-drilling/.

Barack Obama, faced with flat polls and the inability to put away John McCain, has switched positions on drilling for American oil. Obama had been opposed to drilling and had maintained that it would not provide relief in the short term but now says that he would like to see us drill. This is nothing more than pandering to the majority who want us to drill here and drill now. But what were Obama’s unspoken words?

“If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage – I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done.” [emphasis mine] My Way News

What Obama has indicated, whether he realizes it or not, is that the position of the Democrats and specifically Nancy Pelosi, is obstructive. If he is saying that his change of heart is because he does not want to be so rigid that something can’t get done then he is also saying that those in Congress who hold his previous objections to drilling are being so rigid that we cannot get something done.

It is obvious that Obama changed his position for political expediency and in so doing he has called those in his party who still object, obstructionists. I can’t imagine Pelosi or the other obstructionists will be too happy with the chosen one but I am sure they will embrace his position in some fashion so as to make it appear that they are putting aside their objections to help the people out of $4.00 gasoline.

It would do us well to remember that if they really wanted to address the problem they would have done so before they went on a five week vacation. If Obama wanted us to believe he was sincere he should have called for Congress to stay in session and address the problem. Instead, he announced his new position after it had adjourned for the entire month of August.

The important thing to remember in all of this is that Obama has outed his party as being so rigid that we can’t get something done.

Of course, those of us on the right already knew that.

Pelosi and many of her Democratic partners have been opposed to America drilling for its own oil for quite some time and it matters not to them that the money we pay for oil goes to people who do not like us very much. Truthfully though, it did not matter to most when the price of oil was low.

Now that it is high and people are feeling the pinch, Republicans and many Blue Dog Democrats want to drill our own resources. The problem is that Nancy Pelosi will not allow the issue to come up for a vote. Pelosi claimed that the Democrats would work for Americans to find solutions. They were not going to obstruct like the other party. The Democrats obstructed when they were the minority and now that they are in control they, under the leadership of Pelosi and Reid, have done everything to ensure that items they do not like never see the light of day.

Republicans staged a coup yesterday by staying and debating the drilling issue long after the Speaker had banged the gavel of adjournment. That gavel signaled the beginning of a 5 week, taxpayer paid, vacation. Yep, Congress will be in recess for the entire month of August. This, of course, is in addition to the week long holidays they take all year and the end of work as the election approaches. Can anyone explain why we pay them so much for so little? They never work.

Anyway, Pelosi had the lights turned off, the cameras turned off and the microphones shut down but that did not keep the Republicans from continuing to debate the issue while the Democrats left ensuring at least 5 more weeks will pass before this issue is addressed again. The issue now becomes, did Barry Obama add Pelosi’s name to the never ending stream of people who are ending up under his bus?

Barack Obama, who was once very opposed to drilling our own oil so much so that he chided John McCain for changing his position of the subject, has now changed positions on the subject. Yes, in June Obama stated that McCain had changed his position because of political expediency and that drilling would produce no oil for 10 years. Yesterday, the sainted one, stated that he would be open to drilling our own oil. He stated that he would make the compromise in order to have a path to alternative energies as long as we did it safely. In other words, he is now taking the very same position that McCain took only when McCain took it, it was a political move and when Obama takes it, it is compromise.

How will Nancy Pelosi look at Obama’s words? Will she say that his plan to drill is a hoax? Will others who called McCain a flip flopper and only changing for political reasons now call Barry a flip flopper who changed for political reasons? The absolute truth is that Obama DID change for political reasons. If he really felt compromise was in order he would have jumped on board when McCain did (and if he were the leader he wants you to believe he is, he would have been the first to propose it). The only reason Obama is jumping in now is because his poll numbers are flat (and Democrats are nervous) and he is tied with McCain. He realizes that people from all political backgrounds want to drill and he is pandering to them in order to get votes.

The important thing to remember is that John McCain was first on this issue just as he was on the surge. McCain was right about the surge while Obama was saying it would not work. To this day Obama will not admit he was wrong. Now McCain was first out of the gate on drilling for our oil and Obama criticized the position and, like his position on the surge, said it would not work. He stuck with the hard left and their desire to have $10.00 a gallon gas. Obama was Barry come lately. In other words, McCain demonstrated leadership and Obama demonstrated a lack of it. He followed the leader on this one. Don Surber notes that this position changed in just one day:

The Empty Suit on drilling on Thursday, as blogged by the New York Times:

“It won’t lower prices today. It won’t lower prices during the next Administration. While this won’t save you at the pump, it sure has done a lot to help Senator McCain raise campaign dollars.”

The Empty Suit on Friday, from the NYT:

“If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done.”

Now who is trying to raise campaign dollars?

Here is where the fun will begin. Obama has made it clear that he disagreed with McCain on this issue in the past and had unflattering things to say about him because of it. All the liberal media and the toadies who bow down to the greatness of Obama have been claiming that drilling our own oil will not work and that McCain is out of touch and it won’t help in the short term and any number of other reasons it was a bad idea. What will they say now that the sainted one in OK with drilling? Will they now say it is a brilliant idea? This is the way they play the game. Idiots like Keith Olberman decry George Bush as a criminal for supporting a bill that gives cell phone companies immunity but when Obama votes for it, he demonstrated courage. That is how this will be viewed. Obama will be hailed as a genius who is ahead of his time. Unfortunately, he was way late to the party on this one.

Pay attention over the next few weeks and see how the tone of the debate changes in the liberal media now that the sainted one agrees with drilling. Watch and see how many people change their positions as well. What will really be interesting is seeing how Pelosi reacts to this. It was a hoax when Republicans were pushing it. How will she view it from the Messiah?

Keep in mind that no matter what happens drilling was the plan from Republicans while Democrats refused debate on the issue. Now watch and see who tries to take credit if they change position.

Obama is pandering for votes. He already said he was happy with high gas prices but just wished they had risen more slowly. The Democrats have already stated they would be fine with $10.00 a gallon gas and Obama was totally opposed to this plan until his poll numbers fell flat. However, in two months Obama will be saying he has been consistent in his position on this and has always espoused it.

We do not need these people running the country.
