Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/in-maryland-the-taxes-just-keep-on-coming/.

The People’s Republic of Maryland is wealthy. It has counties surrounding DC and many of the wealthy folks who do business in DC live in Maryland. The economic impact of job loss has not hurt Maryland as badly as other states for this very reason; a lot of Marylanders are employed by the federal government.

Maryland is also a bastion of liberal lunacy. The State Legislature has a huge Democrat majority and the Congressional delegation is heavily Democrat. At the state level the Democrats continue to push liberal tax and spend policies that hurt the state which has seen its population of millionaires dwindle as these folks leave for states that are more tax friendly.

When Republican Governor Robert Ehrlich was in office (the first Republican in decades) he proposed slots parlors as a way to make money for the state. This was pooh poohed by Democrats as bad policy and not the way to make money. Current Democrat Governor Martin “The Teflon Leprechaun” O’Malley was singing along with the chorus.

When O’Malley defeated Ehrlich the tune changed and suddenly slots was a great idea. The morons in Annapolis placed the issue on the ballot for referendum which stupidly added it to the State Constitution. They were too cowardly to enact it as legislation because they wanted to be able to claim they did not do it when those opposed to slots complained.

Regardless, the measure passed and nearly eight years after Ehrlich proposed slots, they were in Maryland. The state lost slots revenue all that time because of politics.

Now there are two parlors operating (with more to come) and they are bringing in more than 10 million dollars a month (think about all that lost revenue because of politics).

Event though the parlors bring in this revenue the state has still raised taxes. Two years ago there was a special session where taxes were raised across the board. The sales tax went up 20%, the income tax was raised on higher income workers, all kinds of services were taxed or had tax increases and once again the citizens got screwed. Interestingly, people must have found ways to avoid the taxes because revenue decreased or was not what they expected.

The state has a history of misappropriating funds. The Transportation Fund was raped by legislators in order to pay other bills. Transportation projects still needed to be paid for but the money that was dedicated to them was spent on other things like social welfare programs, many of which go to illegal aliens. The state held public meetings about proposed toll increases along Maryland’s many toll roads. Despite overwhelming opposition from the public, the state increased the tolls.

Now the state wants to raise the tax on gasoline by 15 cents a gallon (a 65% increase). The state is proposing to phase in a tax increase on a commodity that the state already heavily taxes. They claim they need to increase funds for the transportation projects and they promise the funds will not be used for anything else. The reality is that they already had the funds and they spent them on something else. They are effectively trying to make us pay twice for the same thing. We paid in and they had the money, they spent it on something else and now they want us to pay in again. It is certainly easier for these clowns to misappropriate money from a needed fund to pay for things the public might not favor and to force us to pay again into the necessary fund then it is to sell increasing our taxes to cover things like more social welfare and tuition and health care for illegal aliens.

The state is also considering raising the already ridiculously high cost of registering vehicles, the flush tax (money to help the Chesapeake Bay that we all pay as part of our water bill), and increases in bus and rail fees (the state has also raised the tax on alcoholic beverages). The state has misappropriated money and spent unwisely and now is looking to gouge its citizens.

Where is all the slots money going? Why do we have increases in taxes and fees (fees are taxes) and why do we continue to have a bloated budget each and every year? It is because Maryland is fiscally irresponsible and instead of actually cutting things that have no place in government it chooses to view more money coming in as an excuse to spend even more. Rather than balance the budget based on its current revenue and by cutting unneeded services the state would rather dig into the pockets of those who work for a living.

They continue to spend, spend, spend and they are reckless in how they manage money. There are tons of dollars spent that keep people in poverty and force the rest of us to fund their lives. We pay for their medical care, their welfare, their food stamps, their government provided cell phones (a right you know) and their very existence so that Democrats can continue to rely on a particular block of voters.

When you rob Peter to pay Paul you can always count on Paul’s support. That is what Democrats in Maryland (and really across the country) do and this is why Maryland keeps electing corrupt morons to run the state.

People are fed up with tax and spend policies. There are necessary costs associated with government and those expenses should be borne by all people represented by that government. The balance of the things government assumes as a responsibility are not in their lane and should be abolished. Smaller government where everyone has, as Joe Biden called it, skin in the game is the most effective way to run things.

How many people have to shop in tax friendly states or buy their gas across the border before the legislature in Maryland realizes that taxing us to death will not solve the problem of fiscal irresponsibility and misappropriation?

It is time for people to fight back. It is time to let politicians in Annapolis know that they back the proposals of the lame duck Governor at their own peril.

We need fiscal responsibility from people who actually know what they are doing. That would exclude those who have lived their lives off the backs of others, like the very politicians in Annapolis.

We have been Taxed Enough Already and it is time for Marylanders to use every legal method to avoid the taxes imposed by the tyrannical government that is imposing its will on the people. Shop in other states, buy gas in other states, buy alcohol in other states and buy your tobacco in other states (though I don’t condone the use it is a legal product) and look to the Internet to buy things and have them delivered.

There are many legal ways to cut the head off the snake.

Time to get a sharp knife and do just that.

Well people of Maryland, you voted these slugs in office. Watch the video and see how the politicians in Maryland are telling you one thing and doing another. These liars will say we need a certain tax (or fee which is still a tax Marty O’Malley) for a certain reason and then they take the money collected and use it for something else.

Then when the fund for which the money was intended dries up, the politicians scream about needing more taxes to pay for what we ALREADY paid for. This is true of the transportation fund in Maryland. They had a ton of money in there and used it for something else. Mind you, we PAID that money in and it was supposed to pay for transportation projects but they spent it on something else. Then they raised the tolls and other fees and are looking to raise vehicle registration fees, the gas tax and the emission test fees to cover the money that we already paid in but that they misappropriated. We are paying for this twice and there is no guarantee that they will not waste the money again.

Watch this video and see how poorly the politicians in Maryland handle our money. Look how little care they have for OUR money. They just figure they can make you pay more. The state of Maryland is run by Democrats and the Republicans can do absolutely nothing to stop the other side from raping the producers in the state. Watch how one Democrat tells you that they have no problem doing this because they need to prioritize. He even gives us the buzz word, education. We need to fund education and we will take what we need to do that.

Really? About 40% of the lottery money goes to education. A large portion of the casino money goes to education. Maryland spends a great deal of money on education and there is no lack of per pupil spending. The only possible reason they need to send money to education is to pay off the teacher’s union. And when one considers the poor state of our education it would appear that they are throwing our money away. I would also suggest that since Maryland is a sanctuary state and pays a lot of money to illegals as well as welfare queens and other non producers the problem is NOT needing the money for education.

This country was founded, in part, on a revolt against unfair tax policies. What is this state of Maryland going to do when the producers decide that enough is enough? What will King O’Malley and the morons in the legislature do if we all just tell them to get screwed and stop paying taxes? What will they do if we decide NOT to support them? Some have already moved from the state and it is losing a lot in taxes because of it. Many more are shopping via the Internet and out of state to avoid sales taxes much to the dismay of the comptroller…

People will avoid paying taxes (Democrats are good at that) and eventually people are going to get fed up with the taxes on top of taxes that the state of Maryland is imposing.

One day we will take a stand. Perhaps we will organize an Occupy Annapolis movement where we can trash the place and threaten lawmakers. That seems to be the only kind of protest they pay attention to.

And if that does not work, well we shall see…

Comrades of the People’s Republik of Maryland, you asked for this. You slugs who sit on your couches and hold your hands out as well as those of you living off the gubmint voted for these people because they promised you more of someone else’s money. They promised to only tax the rich and that you would be taken care of. Look at the taxes and fees and decide if only the rich will pay those.

You people asked for this and you got exactly what you asked for.

Suckers…

Never surrender, never submit.
Evidently, Terry Wilson of Baltimore tried to rob the store at gunpoint when the clerk pulled a gun and shot him to death.

Wilson is from Maryland where criminal prey on the law abiding because the law abiding are not allowed to carry guns. The state and its moron governor, Martin O’Malley, will tell you they have a process to allow one to carry but that process infringes on law abiding citizens and violates the Second Amendment. You must show a reason why the state should allow you to exercise your right. According to the politicians there is no real need to carry but it is often difficult to see how dangerous things are when one is surrounded by armed police officers. O’Malley has an armed protection detail. He thinks he is more important than the people for whom he works.

In many other states law abiding citizens can carry a concealed weapon (usually red states) and crime rates are lower. Wilson probably forgot that he was not in the killing fields of Maryland when he decided to rob that store. Besides a bullet, I wonder what the last thing that went through his mind was. Toto, we are not in Maryland anymore…

If that had taken place in Maryland and the clerk pulled a gun and shot the felon the state would arrest the clerk for murder. Only felons are allowed to carry guns in Maryland.

I imagine that if several robbers were killed in such attempts in Maryland there would be fewer and fewer robberies. That won’t happen because Maryland seems to like being at the top of the crime stats list.

The morons in elected office from the Teflon Leprechaun governor to the legislators in Annapolis have no clue because they do not believe in individual liberty and in following the Constitution.

They believe in state control of the people and hell, as long as they can live in their gated communities or have armed guards, why should they actually care about the crime?

That is why we are the People’s Republik of Maryland.

Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/maryland-democrats-want-us-to-pay-for-their-malfeasance/.

Maryland has a transportation trust fund that taxes collected from the sale of gasoline (and other items) go in to and the money is supposed to cover the cost of repairing bridges and roads. Unfortunately, this trust fund has become a slush fund for the Democrats in Maryland. This fund has been raided for years to cover budget shortfalls. Instead of actually doing things in a responsible manner, the Democrats insist on adding more and more programs that give taxpayer money to one social welfare program or another and then use money from other sources (like the transportation fund) to pay for them.

The state is in a financial mess and the Democrats used billions of dollars from the trust fund to pay for stupidity and mismanagement. Now that they have completely screwed up our finances and mismanaged the money they already collected from us, they have a plan on how to make up the trust fund shortfall.

They are Democrats so you know what it is. They want to raise taxes. Maryland imposes a 23.5 cent per gallon tax on gasoline and Democrats want to add 12 more cents to that increasing it to 35.5 cents a gallon. As if Obama’s energy policies driving gasoline up to the $4.00 a gallon mark are not bad enough, Maryland wants to add more pain at the pump.

This gas tax increase was introduced during the legislative session but it went nowhere, in large part because of rising gas prices. But now, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley is looking at a special session in order to raise the gas taxes. He promised he would not raise taxes but it looks like that is a promise that will be broken and this broken promise will hurt all the folks who voted for him. The poor folks who live off the taxpayer are still going to have to fork over more money to fill their gas tanks. Hope it feels good folks.

As for the transportation trust fund, it seems to me that it is the height of arrogance for politicians to take our money and direct it to a fund for a specific purpose and then use that money for everything except what it was intended for and then claim it needs to raise taxes to make up for the malfeasance. We paid you once and you had the money. Why should we have to pay more to make up for your mismanagement?

O’Malley says that people generally oppose a tax increase on gasoline but when the roads are bad enough they might not mind paying. I don’t care how bad the roads get, I don’t want them to raise taxes on gasoline. Get rid of all the programs that the state has to pay our money to illegal aliens and we might have enough to fix the roads.

The legislators are promising that they will not use the new money for anything else. That is what they were supposed to do the last time.

They can change the rules anytime they want and they will do whatever they want regardless of the rules.

If they followed the rules the transportation trust fund would not be out of money.

Cave Canem!
Never surrender, never submit.
Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/business-as-usual-in-maryland/.

The People’s Republic of Maryland is a sorry place with regard to the elected slugs in Annapolis. Blair Lee has a great piece outlining what is taking place in the Legislature and it is not pretty. The Governor and his Democrats are playing games with tax increases (after raising taxes to historic levels a few years ago) and pretending that there are no increases. They are calling tax increases fees (something they hammered former Governor Ehrlich over) and they are moving money all over the place.

Speaking of hoaxes, lawmakers are pulling a fast one with the new money that the teachers and state employees must contribute to their woefully underfunded pension fund. O’Malley and the legislature are siphoning off $120 million of new pension contributions to pay for other programs. Yep, it’s another raid just like the raids on the transportation fund, the parks fund, the university’s reserves, etc.

This is the kind of crap that got us into trouble in the first place. They have a tax set up for one thing and then they rape that fund to provide money for some social program or to pay bribes to supporters and then they whine that there is not enough money in the previously funded program and then claim thy need to raise taxes AGAIN. They are guilty of malfeasance and should all be tried, convicted and sent to jail.

Read the article and see if there is any way to make what the Maryland politicians are doing ethical. Look and see if this kind of crap is OK with you or if it makes your blood boil. If you live in Maryland get out and vote to get rid of these cretins and replace them with people who actually know how to manage money.

It is time to jail these criminals and start over.

Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/maryland-you-got-what-you-asked-for/.

The People’s Republic of Maryland reelected Martin O’Malley to serve as governor. O’Malley beat out Bob Ehrlich who was in office for one term before being beaten by O’Malley. During the last election Ehrlich warned the people of Maryland that O’Malley was using bogus information about the health of the state and the need for taxes. Ehrlich rightly pointed out that O’Malley used federal Stimulus money to pay state debt and appease the public worker unions and that the money has dried up and there will be problems.

O’Malley hammered Ehrlich as out of touch and reminded people that the fees Ehrlich raised were really taxes. O’Malley made a point of this and told people that Ehrlich really raised taxes when he raised all the fees (I said they were taxes when they were raised). O’Malley said he did not intend to raise taxes on those in maryland even though he had already raised them to record highs during his first term.

Now O’Malley and his Democrats have put forth a budget that will raise taxes and, get this, raise FEES. O’Malley and his libtards are not calling them taxes because they assert they are fees. These fees are the same kind that O’Malley lambasted Ehrlich for and spent the campaign insisting were taxes. Now that he is doing it, well they are only fees. None of the local members of the Media wing of the Democrat party are expected to bring this issue up.

Their master has said they are fees so by damn, they are fees.

This article points out very clearly why Ehrlich can tell Maryland “I told you so” on the issue of taxes.

This article lists all the taxes that will be raised by the governor who campaigned on NOT raising taxes.

Will this information phase any of the O’Maley supporters? Probably not. Most of them do not pay taxes and only consume the fruits of another’s labor. As for O’Maley, he is term limited and looking to a higher office so he really does not care about broken promises. He is a liberal moron and all he knows is how to tax and spend.

As for those who did not vote or decided that O’Malley was the right one, get use to paying more. Those fees are going to get you along with everyone else and you will certainly pay more for gas because of the gas tax increase.

As for the rest of you, shop in Delaware or Virginia and deny Maryland the sales tax.

It is time to take the money away from the slugs in Annapolis and make them live within their means.

Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/hoyer-laments-the-hole-he-helped-dig/.

House Minority Whip (and moron from Maryland) Steny Hoyer said that we might not get the budget balanced for twenty years because we have dug ourselves a deep hole. The article quotes Hoyer as saying we went from a 5.6 trillion dollar surplus into a 5 trillion dollar hole. The article inserted the appropriate word after surplus, “projected”.

The alleged budget surplus never existed. It was a projection based on a number of gimmicks and based upon Congress doing certain things and taking certain actions, none of which they did. Even in the years where it is claimed that we had a budget surplus we had billions in debt so we were not out of any hole. To be clear, there was no Bill Clinton budget surplus but if you want to believe there was a surplus please be sure to credit it to the Republican Congress because they were in the majority.

Regardless, Hoyer has never met a spending bill that he did not like (or a tax he did not hike). He has been in office for a very long time and he has voted for all the spending that contributed to the problems we have but he is just now realizing that a problem exists.

It is amazing how Democrats become budget hawks when they are not in power but spend and spend and spend when they are in control. In any event, we can balance the budget in fewer than twenty years (or even ten) if the people in Congress will sit down and CUT the unnecessary spending and the waste. They also need to reform Social Security and Medicare which, along with unemployment insurance account for 35% of what we spend.

Younger people need to be allowed to invest their own money and gradually stop paying into Social Security and people who are closer to retirement need to be able to choose to either stay in it or get their money back and invest on their own (or some combination of these). Social Security needs to eventually go away and be replaced by a system where people have their money go to accounts that belong to them, cannot EVER be touched by government and can be passed on to their heirs when they die.

There are plenty of cuts that can be made and plenty of programs (many of which exist in multiples) that can be downsized, combined or eliminated to get our fiscal house in order.

If Hoyer is concerned about the hole that Congress (and that means people of all parties) have dug then he needs to get on board with the Republicans and push for the cuts so that we can get back to sanity.

We cannot spend our way to prosperity. If spending made us solvent we would be having high times because government has done nothing but spend.

The people in Hoyer’s District should have elected Charles Lollar. They were too busy suckling at the teat…

Cave Canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/maryland-governor-omalley-is-an-idiot/.

Or is he a moron? Wait, he is a moronic idiot. Yeah, that’s it.

Martin O’Malley, the Governor of the People’s Republic of Maryland, is the new attack dog for the Democrats who want to destroy Chris Christie of New Jersey before he decides to change his mind and run for president. This is the tactic the left uses when it is scared. The left did this when Sarah Palin was selected as John McCain’s running mate because the left was scared of her. She drew a lot of attention and a lot of people liked listening to her. The left and its media wing set out to destroy her.

Think they were not worried? Why did the campaign go from being Obama against McCain to Obama against Palin? They were scared. They effectively created a narrative that plenty of people believe and that is, Palin is not very bright. Think what you may but she is not stupid and has more experience than the dunce in the White House.

And we know where she was born.

But let’s get back to the moron O’Malley. He chided Christie for his bombastic approach to balancing the budget in New Jersey. O’Mally, who has no business concerning himself with New Jersey, does not approve of Christie and others making public sector employees and their unions the scapegoats for the financial problems that the states are facing. O’Malley does not think that budgets should be balanced on the backs of the public sector union employees.

No, this moron would rather raise the taxes of the people who pay for the public sector employees. O’Malley chides Christie and others for pointing out that public sector unions have very, very, good deals where they pay very little toward their benefits. The people in the private sector pay for their own benefits (and at multiples of what the public sector union types pay) and they pay for those union benefits.

The union employees are up in arms all over because they feel entitled to the money that others produce. They feel entitled to have better benefits than the people who pay them (read their bosses) and they feel that anyone who gets in the way is taking something that belongs to them.

The reality is that THEY are taking things that belong to we the people. The taxpayers are footing the bill and we have some say in how OUR money is spent. If the public sector employees do not like this they can quit and get a job in the private sector. Let’s see how well they do there.

As for O’Malley, he cares not about the public sector employees and he will screw them if it will get money to his campaign war chest. He has already raised plenty of items that Maryland employees have to pay but two things factor in. First, he is a Democrat so no one will speak ill of him. Second, he extorted money from non union public sector employees to pay off the unions. That’s right, Maryland employees who are not in the union will have money TAKEN from their paychecks each pay period and it will go directly to the union. It was a payoff. As a commenter at the source site put it (and I see nothing incorrect in the comment with regard to content. Spelling is another matter):

And he is unsing [sic] the state employee to pay off the union. He pushed through a bill in our legislature last year to allow the public sector unions to take money from all state workers, whether they volunteer to join the union or not. So, starting July 1 the union will gain an addition 30,000 fee payers that would not have choosen [sic] to join the union. The union gains over 11 million dollars, the state employees loose 11 million dollars. In addition to the the unions in Maryland public sector have NO POWER. There are always “qualifiers” with and promises the union gets from the Governor. So, final decision on if state workers get the “union gains” rests totally on the Governor and legislatures. And in the past three years state employees in Maryland have had furloughs, increased health care contributions, no promised 401 matches, layoffs (seniority is never considered) and increased workloads. State workers in Maryland and currently facing increased contribution to the pension plan (they currently contribute 5% for a multiplier of 1.8, which is one of the lowest in the country), and increased healthcare costs again. Co-pays on perscriptions are about to double, and retires will not have healthcare benefits other than medicare. So, how is O’Malley NOT attacking the state workers in Maryland???? What Christy is doing in NJ is small potatoes compared to O’Malley. NJ employees have higher salaries and much lower contribution rates than those in Maryland. After Christy’s [sic] cuts the NJ state employees will STILL be better off than those State employees in Maryland working under Martin O’Malley. O’Mally is a real peice [sic] of work!

So what Moron O’Malley is actually saying in his feud with Christie is; You don’t have to be bombastic to get things under control with unions. All you have to do is make a few underhanded deals, screw over non union employees and make sure the unions get more money. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

Yeah, O’Mally is a moron. He is also delusional. He thinks that the reason he and other Democrat governors were elected or reelected last November is because they are doing what the people want. No, absolutely not. O’Malley is in an extremely blue state. Osama bin Laden could win here if he ran as a Democrat. The only people who think Democrats are doing a good job are the misguided, uneducated or welfare recipients who would vote Democrat no matter what.

In the rest of the country, Republicans won a resounding victory and if I am not mistaken, only one Democrat took a seat that belonged to a Republican but many Republicans took Democrat held seats (in elections for governor). The one that was taken was a term limited Republican in California and that Republican was in name only. California is a lot like Maryland with regard to voting Democrat.

In any event, O’Malley is in office, not because he is wonderful, but because of his proximity to DC and the huge number of Democrats dependent on government for their “check.” Maryland suburbs around DC are full of Democrats who support big government and vote Democrat. Add Baltimore and its entitlement population to the mix and Democrats win in this state. They lose almost all subdivisions in the state but they only need to win three to achieve victory.

In any event, O’Malley bribed the union in order to do what Christie is doing and he is delusional about why he is in office. He is a moronic idiot who has aspirations of a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue.

I would think that America is not that stupid but look at the current occupant of the White House…

Perhaps Martin O’Malley should shut his yap and worry about balancing his own budget and he should try doing so without raising taxes on the people who work and pay HIS salary as well as the salaries of all public sector employees.

We are tired of morons and we are certainly tired of O’Malley.

So there Marty, want to counter attack? Have at it but you know you can’t defend yourself without LYING.

Moron.

Cave Canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/government-mismanages-and-the-people-pay/.

The People’s Republic of Maryland is run by a bunch of Democrats who only know how to tax and spend. They continue to spend long after the well has run dry and they make up shortfalls by taxing the people who work hard for their money. They are only too eager to take that money and spend it on people who do not work. They especially like to spend it on illegal immigrants.

The Maryland government is much like the federal government. It taxes for a specific purpose and then uses the money for something else. At the federal level there is no bigger example than Social Security. The Social Security tax has been collected for decades and the money has been spent on all kinds of projects. If the politicians had left the money alone there would be plenty but they did not so now it looks like they will eventually have to increase taxes to replace the money that was collected. We are paying for it twice.

A similar situation exists in Maryland with the transportation fund. Money has been collected via gasoline taxes and vehicle registration fees for transportation projects but the politicians have raided that account and used the money to pay other bills. Now, to make up for the shortfall, a politician has a proposal to raise the gasoline tax by 10 cents a gallon.

If this is not bad enough, the same moron wants to increase vehicle registration fees by 50%. It already costs at least $130 dollars (this goes up depending on vehicle type and weight) every 2 years so this would mean an additional $65. How much more will these leeches suck from us?

The proposal would go to referendum so at least the people would be allowed to vote on it.

The proposal would also include language to prevent the transportation fund from being used for any other purpose. In other words, they spent money in a way that was not intended and now there is not enough so they will raise taxes to cover that screw up and promise not to do it again.

This is corruption, plain and simple.

How many more times are taxpayers going to be forced to pay more to cover the bungling ineptitude of those put in office?

Maryland raised taxes to record levels only a few years ago and saw revenues drop because people are finding ways to avoid paying more. People go to nearby states to buy tobacco products and to buy items where there are no sales taxes.

The increase also comes with a 1 cent inflation index starting in 2013. You can bet the taxes will not drop if there is deflation.

Maryland taxes people for everything. We pay state taxes, local taxes, city taxes, sales tax, property tax and if they can figure out how to do it we will pay a tax on the air we breathe.

We get little for our money (except for those who suckle at the welfare teat) and it is high time the people in Annapolis started running the state in a fiscally responsible manner. We need a better return on investment.

I am tired of paying through the nose for the failed policies of pandering career politicians who are inept and too stupid to actually run anything.

These people need to get a clue so let me give them one. You cannot tax your way to prosperity…

Copyright © 2012 Big Dog. Visit the original article at http://www.onebigdog.net/public-safety-or-revenue/.

Whenever a red light or speed camera is installed the local government tells us it is for the safety of the driving public. The cameras will decrease accidents and will make people drive more safely. It is hard to say one way or the other if the cameras reduce accidents but one thing is clear, they increase revenue and that is the real reason for having them.

The government claims that the cameras are for safety and revenue is not a concern but when red light cameras stop producing revenue or the amount drops drastically the cameras are moved to another location. If safety was the first concern then the cameras would not be moved. This has happened in the People’s Republic of Maryland.

In Maryland they also leave the speed cameras in construction zones. The cameras, designed to keep speed down to protect construction workers, are left on all the time including the many hours that construction workers are not present. The stated purpose is to protect construction workers but the real purpose is to increase revenue.

These cameras are multiplying in the state of Maryland and they are multiplying for one reason, to increase revenue. Government is very good at starting a program and then increasing the scope of the program to further encroach into our lives. Seat belt laws were once a secondary offense but after a while they became a primary offense. This is now happening in Baltimore County. Speed cameras were placed near schools in order to keep the speed down and children safe.

Now that people are driving slower in these areas the government has decided that it will start using more cameras and they will be moved from one location to another.

It is not about safety, it is about revenue.

I just wish they would stop pretending they care about safety and tell us the real goal, raising money.

Never surrender, never submit.
