Maryland Outlook Does Not Bode Well For Country
Nov 17, 2008 Political
The state of Maryland is nestled right up next to Washington DC and therefore it has quite a bit of money flowing into its coffers courtesy of the federal presence. The Maryland counties surrounding DC have quite a few wealthy residents who commute to the Nation’s Capital to work. DC has a population of just under 600,000 people but that number exceeds a million during the workweek as people from Maryland and Virginia go to work.
Maryland’s proximity to DC allows the small state to have a high standard of living and a pretty decent average income because the money flowing from DC does not have to travel far to enrich the state. This money is the reason that Maryland lags behind the rest of the nation when tough times hit. The feds will continue to employ and to spend.
If Maryland has a tough go of it then times will be worse for the rest of the country. Many of Maryland’s financial wounds are self inflicted by the Democrats running the state but even their malfeasance takes time to show because of the wealth surrounding DC.
The financial outlook for Maryland this Christmas season does not look good. For the first time in several decades the Maryland Retailer’s Association is predicting that the state will see no increase in Christmas shopping over the previous year. The tight economy has caught up with Maryland and that means that times will be much worse for states that do not have a cash cow next door.
Maybe Barack Hopenchange can miracle his peeps some money…

Gilchrest Screws Republicans Again
Nov 12, 2008 Political
Wayne Gilchrest represented Maryland’s 1st Congressional District for 18 years. During his tenure he aligned with Democrats about as much as his own party. Gilchrest is a RINO who lost his bearings and needed to go. I communicated with him several times and in the last year have received about a dozen letters, most condescending, explaining his positions or telling me that I don’t understand the process.
I worked very hard to see Gilchrest defeated in the primary and State Senator Andy Harris ended up victorious. Gilchrest, ticked at the loss and ever the RINO, endorsed the Democrat running against Harris. Gilchrest campaigned for Democrat Frank Kratovil and the DNC pumped in about 2 million dollars to pick up the normally safe Republican seat.
Andy Harris, a physician and former Navy reservist, conceded the race today after it became obvious that the outstanding absentee ballots would not be sufficient to help him over the top. Kratovil, a lawyer (just what we need) will now represent a traditionally Republican district (though there are more registered Democrats here).
I wanted Harris to win. I have met him and he is a decent man who has very good conservative values. I am sorry to see him lose but if Gilchrest had won the primary I would have voted for Kratovil in the general. I asked others not to vote for an incumbent and I was not going to either (even if I like Gilchrest).
I do not align with Kratovil’s policies but if I am going to be represented by a liberal I want it to be one who is not afraid to say he is one.
As for Gilchrest, I am sure he backed Kratovil out of sour grapes but I am also certain that he wanted the Democrat to win so that he [Gilchrest] would be able to run for his old seat in two years. Gilchrest is fairly well liked but many people backed the real conservative in the primary and Harris wins that contest hands down. In the general, where Democrats can vote, they chose Kratovil in no small part because of the Gilchrest endorsement and the millions of dollars pumped in by the DNC.
This year belonged to Democrats anyway so it is no real shock that one was able to win the race especially given the support of the RINO Gilchrest. Now Frank Kratovil has to live up to the expectations of constituents who are more conservative than his pals in Congress would like.
I wish him well and will support him so long as he keeps his liberal leanings in check. If not, he will need to go the way of Gilchrest and I will be more than happy to help take him down as well.
As for Gilchrest, he can forget a run in two years. His days are done unless he formally switches his party affiliation. He has been a Democrat for a long time culminating in his endorsement of Kratovil. All he needs to do now is make it official and change his registration.
Thanks Wayne you low life slug. I hope you sleep well at night knowing you abandoned your principles and your party.
I might not like the outcome but I still smile knowing I helped take your miserable butt down.
And Andy, thank you for running an honorable campaign. If you run again I will be more than happy to support you.

Maryland Hotel Becomes Target Of Obamabots
Oct 16, 2008 Political
Prince Georges County Maryland is infested with liberals. The county is one of the heavily populated liberal counties in Maryland that ensure Democrats always win. Out of 23 sub divisions, four or five of them are densely populated and liberal so their votes always decide the elections even though the rest of the state votes Republican. Prince Georges is one of those infested areas.
The Colony South Hotel made a serious mistake on Sunday night when a marquee was programmed with the words: Country First: McCain/Palin.
On Monday morning the moonbats were going to work and saw the sign. They started making phone calls and the hotel, the NAACP (why in hell are they involved) and God knows who else were inundated with calls concerning this affront to their way of life. Threats were made, pulling Democratic events from the hotel was discussed, and by midday the hotel had taken down the offensive words.
I imagine that the heavily black population felt this was some racist attack so they had to call the NAACP. It is well known that the Obama storm troopers will assault anything they see as offensive to their Dear Leader and in this case, it was no different.
A community activist said that businesses had to respect the sentiments in their marketing areas and the sign was viewed as blatant disrespect. A University of Maryland professor said [displaying the marquee in] “an area that is strongly African American was like putting a stink bomb in the middle of the living room.” In other words, Obama is black and there should be NO black people supporting the white guy.
Businesses are free to put up any signs they want and it is certainly true that people are free to stop using those businesses. However, I can’t help wondering what would have happened if this had been a hotel in Alabama and the marquee said Obama/Biden. If local residents complained and the sign came down, how long would it be before Obama was decrying the racism, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were on TV organizing protests and the NAACP was issuing statements about the racists in the south.
I have patronized businesses with Obama signs. They are free to support who they want and I actually feel sorry for the misguided twits who are so ignorant that they support the guy. If he wins and their tax increases make prices go up then they will wish they had considered something else but by then it will be too late.
I am not a big fan of signs on lawns and on the streets. I would not be inclined to put stuff like that on my lawn or my vehicle. I certainly would not do it in Maryland because when you display stuff like that in liberal areas (which I have to travel through) they vandalize your stuff. And though I am not opposed to shooting someone who needs it, I would just as soon not have to do that.
I am thankful that where I live people are normal so there are few Obama supporters.

Wayne Gilchrest; Liberal Or Sour Grapes
Sep 20, 2008 Political
I have written about Wayne Gilchrest before. I worked hard to see that he was defeated in the primary because even though he was listed as a Republican he acted like and voted with the Democrats. I had been advocating for people to vote out incumbents and I put my money where my mouth is. Gilchrest lost to Andy Harris.
Harris is a stand up guy and a great conservative. He is also a physician and an officer in the Naval Reserve. He will be a great Congressman but we need to beat out a challenger who is putting up a good fight.
Frank Kratovil, a Democrat and an attorney, is running for the seat and he is keeping the race close. The recent poll changes the district from likely Republican to leans Republican and we still have a long way to go. I think Harris will pull this out because the district is fairly conservative and has had a Republican Congressman for about 20 years. However, this is not a forgone conclusion.
One person who has endorsed Kratovil is none other than RINO Wayne Gilchrest. Gilchrest is bitter because he was beaten and he now wants Harris to be denied the seat. I tried to warn Gilchrest to straighten his act up but he ignored the numerous emails sent to him and his condescending attitude led me to actively fight for Andy Harris and against Wayne Gilchrest. I have a lot of friends and relatives in the 1st District and they did not vote for him. He should have listened (not that I was solely responsible but every little bit helps).
It is easy to say that Gilchrest’s endorsement is nothing more than sour grapes but in reality it is in keeping with his inner liberal. You see, Gilchrest sided with Democrats on many issues that were not popular with real conservatives and he went against the wishes of his constituents. So it is not surprising to me that he endorsed the Democrat.
In case anyone thinks that one endorsement does not a liberal make, consider this.
Gilchrest has endorsed Obama/Biden. A true conservative would not do that because those two are extremely liberal. This is why Gilchrest lost his seat and I say good riddance.
Andy Harris will win this race so long as we can keep focused on the issues. Kratovil espouses the big government programs and the tax increases that support them and Harris believes in small government, lower taxes and he will never forget that he works for the people and never, unlike Gilchrest, be foolish enough to think we work for him.
If you are in the First Congressional District in Maryland then you need to register to vote and cast that vote for Andy Harris.

MD Senator Currie Wrong On Gun Ownership
Aug 18, 2008 Political, Second Amendment
Maryland State Senator Ulysses Currie of the 25th district (who is under federal investigation for illegal activities) wrote a piece about gun control. Currie is upset that the Supreme Court reaffirmed what our founders stated by ruling that the Second Amendment is an individual right. Currie takes exception to this and indicates that no other court has ruled this way. Actually, no other court has looked at this issue. The 1939 Miller case is held by gun control advocates as a bellwether for a militia interpretation but the ruling had nothing to do with the issue at hand. It dealt with interstate commerce and a weapon, not who had the right to carry it.
Currie is very upset that the SCOTUS overturned the DC gun ban and, like Chicken Little, cries “the sky is falling.” He asserts that we will have more murders in DC and he further goes to point out that states with more lenient gun control laws have higher death by gun rates. His statistics come from The Violence Policy Center which is an anti gun organization. The raw numbers are misleading and there are many other factors that play into this. What is very interesting is that Currie fails to mention the DC gun death rate which is one of the HIGHEST in the country. How can that be if strict gun laws keep us safe?
It is important to remember that one can make any claim using numbers. It is also important to note that gun death rates encompass a lot of reasons for death like suicide, justifiable shootings (as in the police or self defense), accidental shootings and criminal acts (murder or crimes resulting in murder). Another thing to consider is the number of crimes that were committed by law abiding citizens with carry permits. This makes a big difference because if the crimes are committed by people who should not have guns then the laws forbidding their possession are not working. Currie should whittle down the numbers and point out how many crimes are committed by people who are permitted to carry.
This is important because people like Currie lamented about how Florida would see a marked increase in gun deaths after the state relaxed its gun laws and allowed more people to carry. This has never come to fruition. In Florida hundreds of thousands of permits to carry have been issued and fewer than 20 people with a permit have been involved in crimes (not necessarily involving gun use). Up through 1998 no permit holder has ever shot a police officer but several permit holders have assisted police.
If Currie wants to skew statistics let me help him out. Blacks comprise a small portion of the population and yet they account for a disproportionate number of gun deaths. Cities with the largest number of blacks in the population (like DC, LA, and New Orleans) have higher murder rates than cities with more whites. In 2007 California ranked fourth behind Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Indiana in the number of black homicides. The black homicide rate pushes the rate for each state high because the rate is about four times higher than their percentage of the population. Is it fair to say that removing blacks from the states would lower gun death rates? While we are on the subject, Hispanics account for a disproportionately high number of gun deaths as well. The statistics certainly lay out a case for lowering the death rate by removing the minorities. This approach is as legitimate as using crime statistics for illegal acts as a methodology to ban LEGAL gun ownership. Perhaps we should ban people who live in Maryland’s 25th District from running for office there because 100% of the current Senators from there are under federal investigation. Banning everyone for the acts of criminals is nonsensical. Before anyone tells me that Currie has not had his day in court so he should be presumed innocent, keep in mind that he is assuming that all gun owners commit criminal acts and should not be allowed to own them.
What Currie fails to realize is that the crimes are being committed by people who have no regard for the law. DC, Chicago and many other major cities with extremely tough gun control laws have high gun murder rates. Once again, if the gun laws work why are these places suffering gun deaths? If gun control lowers gun deaths than these places should be the safest places on earth. Unfortunately, some of them have a higher death rate than Iraq and it is in the middle of a war.
People who obey the law do not get permits to carry weapons and then go around shooting people. The facts have proven time and again that law abiding citizens do not commit murders and that law breakers do not care about gun laws because they don’t follow the rules anyway.
Currie has his panties in a wad because the Supreme Court acknowledged that gun ownership is an individual right. This is nothing new. As I have pointed out before, the founders stated that the PEOPLE will be allowed to have guns. It is an undeniable truth. Regardless of the fact that it defies logic to think that the words “The People” mean all citizens everywhere it is used except the Second Amendment, the issue is moot because of the founder’s own words. Walter E Williams has a comprehensive listing of the founder’s quotes on the subject. I defy Currie or anyone else to read them and then demonstrate how they mean anything BUT an individual right. For example:
“That the said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms … ”
– Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, at 86-87 (Pierce & Hale, eds., Boston, 1850)
The people of the United States who are peaceable citizens. How can anyone misconstrue this to be anything other than an individual right?
Ulysses Currie is absolutely wrong on this issue. The places that allow citizens to own and carry weapons are the safest in the country. There are some gun control states that have low gun death rates. It would be interesting to see what the demographics of the population are because I would wager they are mostly law abiding people.
Once again, Mr. Currie, law abiding citizens do not go around killing people. Criminals account for the overwhelming majority of the gun deaths and all the laws in the world will not change their behavior.
We call them criminals for a reason.
