A Look At The News

Debt Limit Surpasses 20 TRILLION!

The US debt limit (debt ceiling) has exceeded 20 TRILLION dollars (debt counter in right sidebar). The claim is that the debt jumped 317.6 Billion dollars in one day but that is only due to the funny math and accounting procedures used by the federal government. You see, the debt limit was reached months ago. In March we hit the statutory limit and the federal government has been using what it calls extraordinary measures to keep paying the bills. This involves taking money from the government funds in pension plans, stopping government contributions to pension plans and other methods of manipulating money the government does not own but controls (one day they will just confiscate it and pay the bills and dare you to do anything about it).

The reason there was a spike in the debt which had held at the same number since March is that President Trump and Congressional Democrats agreed to a plan to extend the debt ceiling and pass a continuing resolution moving the time to 15 December at which time the government will need to come to an agreement on the budget. Republicans wanted to kick this can down the road and Trump wanted to accomplish it by the end of the fiscal year (30 Sept) but the two hurricanes pummeled Texas and Florida and money is needed for disaster relief. Remember, Trump was ready to shut down the government if he did not get what he wanted but doing so now that people are suffering would be a stupid move so he agreed to increase debt, a CR and disaster relief until 15 December.

If he is smart (he keeps saying he is) he will use the holidays to hold Congress hostage and not let them adjourn until he gets what he wants or he can let the government shut down through the holidays. If he goes to the public now explaining what he expects and what will happen if he does not get it he might be able to get what he wants. Time will tell if he is a deal maker or a deal faker.

Rand Paul Has A Better Plan

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky said that the disaster relief for Texas, Florida and other states affected by the hurricanes should come out of the foreign aid budget. He introduced the America First Amendment that would do just that. It would take billions of dollars from the foreign aid we send to other nations and use it instead for disaster relief. This is a wonderful idea. Who could not get on board of actually taking money that we usually give to nations that tolerate us, hate us or want to kill us and use it HERE in our own country instead? Who cannot get behind the idea of using American tax dollars to help Americans in America rather than letting it go to help people in foreign nations?

Evidently most of the Senate can’t because they voted against the Amendment 87-10. That means 87 US Senators thought it would be a better idea to send US tax dollars to other nations rather than spending them here to help our own people. One of those who voted against is a Senator from Texas. Sad, very sad indeed.

Remember this when these jackasses ask for your vote.

More Of The Police State

The Miami Herald is reporting that many folks who live in the Florida Keys and followed the mandatory evacuation orders are not being allowed back into the Keys. The police have blocked the road and tensions are high as people try to get back to their properties to see what their losses are. The police claim there is debris and live wires (even though all the power is out) across the roadway. The indications are it might be a week before these folks are allowed back in. They are being told to go to a shelter (26 miles away) and wait to be told they can enter.

People are not happy at this police state. The claim that public safety is a priority can only go so far. Emergency vehicles and certain others who live in specific areas of the Keys (the outraged claim it is the rich people who live there) are crossing the roads and making it in. There is no reason that the people who live there can’t get in to survey their properties and determine if they can stay or if they need to pack belongings and bug out until repairs are made. This is government making a bad situation worse by flexing its muscles.

Many folks interviewed are letting the police and elected officials know that the next time they will ignore the mandatory evacuation orders and stay home. They claim this is why most people do not follow those orders. They say getting back home is the problem and officials are only making it a certainty that more people will be placed in harm’s way the next time.

Gouging Bad Unless Government Does It

Remember not that long ago as Harvey was approaching and people were told to evacuate? Remember how the news was filled with stories of disgusted people who were faced with eight and nine dollar a gallon gas and water ranging from forty-eight to seventy-two dollars a case? Does anyone remember government officials claiming gouging will not be tolerated and businesses that price gouge should be ashamed and will be held accountable? I seem to remember a lot of bluster from government stooges who claimed they would tramp down hard on people found to be gouging.

It is amazing that people in Florida will go to Disney and spend three dollars for a bottle of water (which is seventy-two dollars a case) and not bat an eye but when they have to pay a dollar and a half or two dollars a bottle they scream bloody murder.

Well now, it seems those very anti price gouging politicians who would come down hard on the price gougers are guilty of the very same thing. The Mayor of Houston has proposed a 9% increase in property tax to pay for some of the cleanup from hurricane Harvey. Yes, the very officials who were talking about how immoral it was to gouge for water and gas are now gouging for taxes.

The tax increase would be temporary (they always start that way) and would be in the tax bill due the first part of 2018. Isn’t it amazing that a gas station that will be shut down raises its prices and charges more for water to curb hoarding and make up for future loss is condemned by the very government that thinks it is OK to raise taxes on people who have suffered huge financial losses and who will have trouble making ends meet and rebuilding?

I think if I lived there and Houston politicians wanted to increase my property tax I would force them to come reassess my property so I could pay taxes on the lower value now that it is damaged.

In any event, politicians are all the same. They think people are ATMs and that money can be withdrawn at any time for any reason.

Remember these jackasses when they ask for your vote.

Maybe Trump Better Start Making Those Deals

All during the campaign Donald Trump told us that he loved to make deals, he was a great deal maker (everyone says it) and that he would win so much we would all get tired of winning. Perhaps Trump should start making those deals because I am nowhere near tired of winning.

I don’t think Trump understood how obstructive Democrats and establishment Republicans are. There are not really two parties, they are the uni-party. Different wings of the same bird, as it were. I think Trump believed he would be dealing with people who love the nation and are patriots rather than dealing with people who would just as soon see the nation fail than work with him (John McCain is a prime example). Trump had this mistaken idea that the very people who loved him as a businessman and begged him for donations would work with him to get things done. He was sadly mistaken.

Now Trump has worked with Democrats to extend the debt of the nation and to issue a continuing resolution along with disaster aid until December 15th. We all know what happens when Congress is backed into a corner around the holidays. They work long hours screwing us every way they can and then they take late night votes and pass things that we don’t want all the while claiming they did the best they could. The reality is they will pass anything in order to leave for the Christmas recess. That is where Trump should hammer them all (more on that in a bit).

President Trump also agreed to look at getting rid of the debt ceiling altogether.

In any event, Trump agreed to this extension and I can see why he had to. The weak, spineless Republicans wanted to extend for 18 months (conveniently running PAST the next election) and Trump did not want to do that. He could not stay the course and risk shutting the government down when Texas needs federal aid and Florida and other coastal states will soon require a lot of disaster assistance. The liberals and their stenographers in the media would ride that pony all the way to the election. So Trump did what he had to do.

Here is where I think he can make hay. If the Democrats and weak Republicans start working on things toward that 15 December date Trump should let them know that he will not sign anything that is not what he wants including a tax cut (ideally a revised tax system). He should let them know that he is not afraid to shut the government down over the holidays and that he will require Congress to stay in session until they pass what he wants. It is time Donald Trump showed us his deal making skills.

I know there is a gentleman’s agreement between Trump and Schumer to end the debt ceiling all together. This is a perfect time for Trump to require Congress to pass a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution. He can tell them he is willing to work to eliminate the debt ceiling but only after we have a requirement for a balanced budget. That amendment should include some provision about how and when taxes can be raised so that they don’t start raising taxes each year to make ends meet (cutting spending is the goal).

Republicans are evidently shocked that Donald Trump worked with Democrats on this with some reports claiming they were quite surprised. Why are they surprised when none of them tried to work with the president to get things done? For months these Republicans have been screwing Trump and the nation by failing to take up his agenda, by failing to repeal Obamacare and in general by failing to do anything to keep the very promises they made to us when they wanted our votes. Donald Trump has been trying to get the Republicans to work with him but they are as unhappy that he won as the Democrats. The establishment wanted Hillary so they could play the usual games. Trump is not a politician and he is not playing their games.

We can help in this process by getting primary challengers for the limp wristed spineless Republicans in Congress and getting rid of them. Vote in true conservatives, people who will actually fight the evil on the left.

And Donald Trump needs to sack up and start showing us the art of the deal he claims to be so good at. If he is having trouble perhaps he should read one of his own books…

Race Not The Issue With Colin Kaepernick

Poor ole Colin Kaepernick has been having one heck of a time landing a job as a quarterback in the NFL. It all seems to have started after he took a knee to protest the supposed loss of life due to cops looking to exterminate black folks. Yes, Kaepernick was one of the loons who ignored the criminal acts leading up to the shootings and focused on the facts the police had to shoot someone. He knelt down in protest during the National Anthem during the football season and he wore clothing that showed police officers in an unfavorable light.

Only a fool thinks that all shootings (of people of all colors) by the police are correct and necessary. There are far too many trigger happy LEOs and we have seen the bad shootings that have come. Yes folks, those shootings were bad no matter what the POLICE review found.

But for the most part the huge majority of officers try to do a good job and try to steer away from confrontation. They just want to go home at the end of the day. The reality is many of the shootings of black folks is completely justified. People reach for things, rush the cops, try to get tough or try to intimidate and end up getting shot. To Kaepernick and the BLM crowd no shooting is ever justified, the cops are pigs who are wrong and America is racist.

Only a fool believes racism is the reason Kaepernick has not gotten a job. He might not be happy about it but the real reason is his actions are a distraction and most fans don’t like them. There was a recent stir when the Baltimore Ravens indicated they would consider signing him as a back up to Joe Flacco (particularly since Flacco injured his back). Fans by and large were not happy with the idea. A number of black folks chimed in to indicate that it was all racism and that if Kaepernick could help the team they should sign him and if they don’t sign him it is all because of racism.

Not quite little BLM snowflakes. The reality is Kaepernick would bring distraction and mayhem to a team. Why would any team want to bring the scrutiny and the media circus sure to follow Kaepernick particularly when he will be second string at best? I know teams could change his on field behavior. The person signing the paycheck gets to decide what behavior is acceptable so it would be easy for any team to require him to stand during the National Anthem and to forbid him from protesting during games or when representing the NFL. They could force him not to wear clothing that insults police officers or any other groups. But they probably can’t control his off field behavior, what he wears or says or does in his free time and they certainly could not control the circus surrounding him.

It is not racism to decide against signing Kaepernick. It is about listening to a fan base that does not want an anti American cop hater on their team.

I have heard the talk shows and the folks calling in who support Kaepernick and his “protests” claim he has a right to take a knee (he does not) and that he is being held out because he knelt down for something he truly believed in and that this would not happen to a white player so it must be raycis…..

Perhaps the name Tim Tebow will ring a bell. He was a white quarterback in the NFL and he also knelt down for something he truly believed in. He knelt down to honor G-d and give him praise and thanks. The very same people who think Kaepernick was justified in kneeling and is being black balled (no pun intended) because he did had no problem with Tebow being overlooked and labeled as a distraction because of his practice of kneeling.

That blows the argument that it would never happen to a white guy and if it is racist that Kaepernick is not working because of kneeling then it must be racist with regard to Tebow.

Especially when one considers whites might be the minority playing in the NFL…

There are consequences for things we do. Colin Kaepernick is discovering that right this very moment and race has nothing to do with it.

Buffett Should Stick To What He Knows

I don’t know how many times Warren Buffett will have to be wrong before people stop listening to him. I know he is pretty good at investing and he has billions of dollars but he should probably stick to the things he knows in order to avoid looking like a fool. Buffett once quipped about the fact he paid a lower tax rate than his secretary despite making so much more. His income was from capital gains and hers was ordinary income. Both are taxed at different rates (capital gains are lower). The liberals ran with his statement to make the claim the rich do not pay their “fair share.”

Buffett was recently interviewed on PBS and he stated that America needs to go to a single payer health care system like the one in the UK. He stated America could afford it as a wealthy nation and that this is what will solve the health care issues.

To be fair, Buffett did state he was not an expert on health insurance. He probably should have ended there but he kept going and that made him the fool once again.

WOODRUFF: “Something that affects all businesses is the cost of health care in this country and you’ve been vocal about that. You argue right now, in fact, that the cost of paying for health care can affect a company even more than taxes.”
BUFFETT: “Well it does. I mean in terms of our competitiveness in the world; health care in 1960 was 5 percent of GDP. And there’s only a hundred cents to the dollar. So it’s gone from 5 percent to 17 percent. And it keeps going up. Corporate taxes have gone down from 4 percent to 2 percent. So corporate taxes are way less of a factor in American competitiveness than overall business than medical costs.”
WOODRUFF: “As we sit here today in Omaha, the Republicans in Congress are madly trying to figure out what to do to replace ObamaCare, the Affordable Care Act. Do you have a firm idea in your mind what ought to be done about ObamaCare? Everybody acknowledges there’s been some problems.”
BUFFETT: “I think that’s way outside of my circle of competence. But I would say this. You can’t have that five go to 17 and move on to 20 and 22 or 24 percent, because there are only a hundred cents in the dollar. Health care is gobbling up well over $3 trillion a year. It’s just about the same as federal, the federal budget, I mean it’s getting up there.”
WOODRUFF: “Are we now at the point where the country does need to think about some sort of single-payer system in some more or another?
BUFFETT: “With my limited knowledge, I think that probably is the best system. Because it is a system, we are such a rich country, in a sense we can afford to do it. But in almost every field of American business, it pays to bring down costs. There’s an awful lot of people involved in the medical — the whole just the way the ecosystem worked, there was no incentive to bring down costs.”
WOODRUFF: “It sounds like what you’re saying with a single payer system it’s easier to figure out a way to?”
BUFFETT: “More effective, I think.”

We can’t afford 22 or 24% of GDP going to health care but the government can afford to pay the bill? Now I know that Buffett thinks a single payer system will reduce costs but he is wrong. The government never does anything efficiently and it never does anything UNDER budget. One only needs to look at Medicare (>$79 Trillion in unfunded liabilities) to see how inefficient government is. That program costs billions upon billions more than it was ever estimated to cost and shortfalls are addressed by reducing the amount doctors are paid for the care they provide. And what assurance do taxpayers have that once government controls health care it won’t start adding to the program? Look at Social Security (>$15 Trillion in unfunded liabilities). The government established that socialist program many decades ago and has added to it along the way so that now we have untold numbers of people on disability or some other aspect that was added. We can’t afford to sustain that program because government mismanages it and keeps adding treats to the Christmas tree…

Any person, and Buffett should pay close attention here, who thinks single payer government run insurance is good should look closely at the Veteran’s Administration. That program is a single payer government run program that only involves a small portion of the population as a whole but it is rife with waste and abuse. It is a fiasco that costs so much there are talks of decreasing other military programs to move money to the VA. There are long lists and veterans wait for months, or longer, to be treated. Many die before they are ever seen. This is the kind of program the uninformed like Buffett want for all of us.

Buffett tells you we are a wealthy nation and can afford it. This flies in the face of reality because the government is 20 TRILLION dollars in debt and has unfunded liabilities that exceed 100 TRILLION dollars. We are not a wealthy nation. We are dead ass broke because of people like Buffett and their belief that government can provide, do it all and afford it.

Government can’t because the taxpayer can’t and that is the bottom line.

A few more notes. Buffett is old and will be dead before anything like he proposes would ever take place. He won’t have to deal with it and even if he lived his wealth would ensure he never had to deal with it (neither will his heirs). It is also important to note that in the interview Buffett claims that businesses can’t afford health care costs but government can [so basically, the burden should be shifted]. I have already shown government can’t afford it but the bigger picture here is that Buffett, a business man, is talking about how to make his (and all) businesses more profitable. He wants to do that by putting the burden of health insurance on the government thus clearing businesses of that debt and burden. Of course Buffett would claim government (read the taxpayers) can afford it. He wants people to embrace this socialist crap so his businesses will be more profitable.

Buffett admitted this was not his expertise. Perhaps he should have left it at that instead of offering his opinion on something he is woefully unprepared to address.

To recap, Buffett does not know what he is talking about, single payer is a terrible idea, increasing the GDP will lower the percent of GDP health care costs and opening the market for insurers will give people choices that will reduce costs without involving the government. The government cannot do anything on a budget.

Anyone who wants single payer should move to the UK and live there for the rest of their lives. They get what they want and the rest of us are not burdened by their stupidity.

Comey Raises More Issues

James Comey testified last week in an event that the media treated like the second coming. The networks preempted their regular programming to show Comey’s testimony because all of them thought he would drop a bombshell that would mean the end of the Trump presidency.

Comey did not drop any kind of bombshell and he left the media and their liberal puppet masters in distress. For months they have been anticipating a death blow to the Trump presidency and they knew for sure they had that blow in Comey. But as luck would have it, Comey confirmed what Trump stated about being told three times he was not under investigation and while Comey said he was concerned that Trump was trying to influence the investigation into General Flynn, his testimony told a different story.

Comey told us that Trump hoped that Flynn would be let go or the case would be dropped but Comey also told us that Trump told him that if anyone from his campaign were involved with the Russians it would be good to know. Rather than try to thwart the investigation it appears as if Trump wanted it done with as quickly as possible so he would not have a cloud hanging over his head.

That cloud could have been removed if Comey had been decent enough to inform the public that Donald Trump was not under investigation. That would have settled a lot of things but Comey did not do that.

As was stated in the Senate hearing, it appears the only thing not leaked was the truth about Donald Trump.

Comey also admitted he was the one who leaked his memos to the NYT through a surrogate. This was probably a criminal act since Comey took those notes after a meeting with the president, took them on a government issued computer in a government vehicle on his way to his government office. The notes he recorded were government property and Comey leaked them to eh media.

What else did Comey leak?

Comey also pointed his finger at former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the things he said indicate she was involved in illegal activity.

There are things here that can be easily cleared up.

Was there collusion with the Russians? Yes, Obama was recorded telling the Russians he would have more latitude after the election (to do things that might cost him reelection if they were done prior to Election Day). Was there an effort to impede an investigation? Yes, Loretta Lynch told Comey to call the Hillary INVESTIGATION a “matter” and this was done solely for optics. It was done to keep from casting an unfavorable light on Hillary over her illegal server and mishandling of classified information. Did Trump try to influence the outcome regarding Flynn? Comey said he took it that way and if that is the case then he must have taken Obama that way when he said Hillary should not be charged because she did not intend to do anything wrong. That was a public statement and Comey made sure she was not charged. If the liberals are going to say Trump tried to influence Comey they must then acknowledge that Obama DID influence Comey.

As for these memos and the information that the liberals waited on with baited breath, how do we know they really exist and if they do how do we know they were written when Comey said they were? He never took notes on all these other people who he had concerns about but he immediately started taking them with regard to Trump. I bet if there are notes he wrote them after he was fired and did so from memory. Without a third party to confirm it boils down to Trump’s word against Comey’s. Trump denies some of the substance of the notes and that means, barring another source, we will never really know what was said.

It is important to note that Trump said Comey told him he was not under investigation on three occasions and the media all panned that claim. During his Senate hearing Comey proved Trump was being truthful.

I think Comey put himself in a bit of a spot. He could well be charged with crimes and end up in real hot water.

The Russians tried to interfere with our elections as they have for decades (we do the same thing). However, Donald Trump did not collude with the Russians and had no contact with them regarding it.

Comey wanted a special prosecutor appointed and that is, according to him, why he leaked information. It appears that there is really no need for a special prosecutor. Perhaps it is time to realize this entire story is concocted by the people who lost the election and need someone to blame.

They lost and they are doing everything they can to keep Donald Trump from doing his job.

We need to make them pay for this.

Comey through the years
