Congress Has A Lot Of Nerve

In November of last year the executives of the Big Three American auto companies flew to DC in private corporate jets with their hats in their hands asking for tax dollars to bail them out. Members of Congress used this example of extravagance to publicly chastise the CEOs. They were called arrogant and one Congressman said this:

“It’s almost like seeing a guy show up at the soup kitchen in a high hat and tuxedo,” Rep. Gary Ackerman (D., N.Y.) told the gathered executives. “Couldn’t you have downgraded to first class or something, or jet-pooled or something to get here?” WSJ

Yes, members of Congress took pot shots at these guys for running their companies so poorly that they were nearly out of money and so desperate that they needed to beg for taxpayer money. Imagine if the “frugal” members of Congress had done something like this. Oh wait…

Congress added two luxury Gulf Stream Jets to a bill that already included one the Air Force needed to replace an aging aircraft. The Congress says it is not an earmark, they just increased the total of what was originally requested. The planes will be required to be based near DC so that they can fly members of Congress all over the place.

Here we have Congress spending money that we do not have and they are purchasing luxury jets so they can fly in a manner they criticized auto CEOs for. Now Congress does not have its hat in hand because, unlike the auto company executives, Congress can just pass laws that take more of our money. Even though they can extort money from us they are no different than the CEOs who run their companies so poorly that they have no money. Congress has spent us into bankruptcy and they will just raise our taxes to pay for their luxury jets.

They will try to tell us this is for the Air Force but this is solely for the comfort of members of Congress. The Air Force only requested one plane. Congress added the other two and required them to be based near DC. Keep this in mind when you read statements like this:

John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, a defense information Web site, said military officials “need a long-range airplane — and [it’s] better to fly them on a small one than a big one.”

Pike said it is unreasonable to expect a three-star general and a staff of five people to attend meetings around the world with several stops in far-flung locales while traveling on commercial airlines. Roll Call

The General could fly in the plane the Air Force ordered. I do not think there are that many Generals flying to justify two more planes. These planes were purchased solely for the convenience of the members of Congress. It is a luxury perk that they are paying for with your tax dollars.

They are too important to fly commercial and given the atmosphere in the country perhaps it would be a bit dangerous for them. However, that does not mean they should spend 200 million dollars for three planes, two of which are not needed.

The planes were slipped into a bill and called something other than an earmark in order to avoid public scrutiny.

This is the so called most ethical Congress and most transparent government that we have ever known.

I guess if they keep saying that a few people might believe it.

Late Term Abortion Performed At Church

A gunman reportedly shot and killed Dr. George Tiller a man who performs(ed) late term abortions. The local authorities have not released the name of the victim but it is being reported as Tiller. Police are looking for the murderer (besides Tiller).

I don’t think this is the way to settle problems and despite how meathead takes my rants I would never kill someone to settle a dispute unless the dispute involved the potential and immediate harm to me or my family. I would shoot someone who broke in my home but would not shoot a neighbor with whom I disagreed. This is an important distinction because some less intelligent people take it literally when you say someone should be shot or hanged for some infraction.

If they catch this guy he should claim that he was guilty of practicing medicine without a license. He could say that he wanted to perform a late term abortion but since he has no medical training he did not know how late “late term” was. He could claim that he performed a late term abortion on Tiller but lacked any training to determine when it was too late.

Tiller can now rot in hell where he belongs. What was that guy doing in church in the first place?

UPDATE: This is in a news story: The shooting prompted U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to direct federal marshals to “offer protection to other appropriate people and facilities around the nation,” according to a statement from the Department of Justice.

The Marine recruiting office in Berkeley has been under attack for years but I have never seen US Marshals deployed to protect the facility or the people working there. Of course, the Marines can do a much better job than the US Marshals if we just let them handle it…

One guy is murdered and Holder is offering protection all over.

Where Was Sandy Berger When This Was Stolen?

In October 2003 Sandy Berger, former Clinton National Security Adviser, stole classified documents from the National Archive. There is no doubt he stole them because he stuffed them down his pants. He stole the documents to cover up any missteps taken by him and Clinton with regard to our security. Berger did not want the documents discovered during all the 9/11 investigations.

He was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, a misdameaner because it was determined he only took copies and that the documents were backed up on a hard drive.

Today it was announced that a hard drive containing a terabyte of information from the Clinton years is missing from the National Archives. The drive contains sensitive information as well as personally identifying information such as Social Security Numbers.

The Inspector General states the drive was stolen sometime between October 2008 and March 2009 after it was left unsecured in an area that is accessed by any number of people including visitors.

Did Sandy Berger visit the Archives during that time frame? Perhaps he was not satisfied with stealing copies and wanted the electronic version as well.

Can you imagine him meeting up with Bill Clinton after stuffing the hard drive down his pants?

CLINTON: Hey Sandy. Is that a hard drive in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

And Maryland Still Infringes On Gun Rights

The state of Maryland has an oppressive set of rules with regard to issuing a hand gun carry permit. The Second Amendment states that the right shall not be infringed but Maryland infringes. In order to get a carry permit one must demonstrate that something of value is carried (jewels, narcotics, guns, money) and the gun can only be carried when the items are being transported. One may also receive a gun permit from the lord masters if there are documented threats or assaults upon the individual. You have to be a victim AND PROVE IT, before you can defend yourself.

These preconditions infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and even though the idiot governor of the state claims we have a permitting process, he is ignoring the obvious barriers placed to prevent people from carrying.

Why should the governor worry? He has an armed State Police Officer with him all the time. The governor has the executive protection unit so he is always protected. If it is so safe, as he claims, then why does he need protection?

Not everyone has the oppressive rules forced upon them. Police officers can get a permit to carry a weapon off duty (a personal weapon, not an issued one). Friends of the well connected like the governor and the State Police Superintendent can get permits (and getting on their bad side can result in them being revoked). Judges can get a carry permit.

The rest of us are on our own, forced to call the government sponsored Dial A Prayer (911). While the governor has a police officer there all the time, the rest of us only see them AFTER the crime has been committed.

An off duty correctional officer was waiting for carry out food in Baltimore a little after midnight (a few nights ago) when three young kids approached him and brandished what turned out to be a toy gun. The officer drew his weapon and fired striking one of the kids in the stomach. The other two fled. The one who was shot faces charges when he recovers from his injury.

I watched the news report on this and at the end the reporter stated that officials state a government issued weapon was not used, the officer fired his privately owned weapon for which he had a permit to carry.

Being in a special class allowed this guy to defend himself. Yes, it was a toy gun but that was unknown at the time and in Baltimore it could have been real. All that gun control has resulted in shootings all the time. If this had been a regular, non connected, citizen the robbery might have taken place. The law abiding people in this state are not allowed to defend themselves unless, of course, they are well connected and can get a gun permit.

The officer would never have gotten a permit to carry that weapon if he were not a correctional officer.

The rules in Maryland INFRINGE.

The protected elite do not care because it is not their families being shot down in the streets.

And the anarchy that results from gun control gives them more reason to infringe even deeper. They can use the crime to justify the oppression.

Just the way they like it.

Murtha’s Nephew Gets Awarded No-Bid Contract

I have read time and again the liberal meme about no-bid contracts and how the evil Republicans handed them out as favors to their buddies. The name Halliburton is screamed every time the liberals want to make a point about no-bid contracts. Halliburton, the libs believe, get no-bid contracts because Dick Cheney was once employed there and somehow he profits from those contracts.

They usually ignore the fact that Halliburton is the only company that is capable of doing what they are contracted to do. Sure, they have been involved in overcharging but those things get investigated.

I want to know if my liberal friends (you know who you are) will jump in here and scream about the no-bid contract that a company named Murtech received. I want to know if they will stop by here and discuss how this company, that is headed by Jack Murtha’s nephew, received a no-bid contract. It is obvious that Murtha ensured that this was awarded to family. Given Murtha’s history of corruption there can be no doubt. The fact that there is no evidence that the business even does anything makes it all the more suspicious.

The headquarters of Murtech, in a low-slung, bland building in a Glen Burnie business park, has its blinds drawn tight and few signs of life. On several days of visits, a handful of cars sit in the parking lot, and no trucks arrive at the 10 loading bays at the back of the building.

Yet last year, Murtech received $4 million in Pentagon work, all of it without competition, for a variety of warehousing and engineering services. With its long corridor of sparsely occupied offices and an unmanned reception area, Murtech’s most striking feature is its owner — Robert C. Murtha Jr., 49. He is the nephew of Rep. John P. Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department’s spending as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee. [emphasis mine] Washington Post

Well, well. It seems that some of them there Democrats are involved in the no-bid contract game and it is obvious that this is a payment to a family member. When people mention Cheney and Halliburton they cannot be persuaded that Cheney does not profit and he does not have any influence in the contracting process (Bill Clinton’s administration awarded a no bid to Halliburton). So let’s hear what they have to say about this obvious crime.

Where are you liberals? Where is your voice proclaiming the culture of corruption.

Who will be the first liberal to defend Murtha.

Come on, I am waiting.
