Regime Hides The Decline

The federal agency that was supposed to oversee the drilling operations in the Gulf was lax in its inspections and declared the now doomed rig as a model of safety. In fact, the lax safety inspections were an ongoing issue dating back as far as 2001.

The Obama regime made no changes and only after the incident did the Minerals Management Service (MMS) revise its stated number of inspections upward to gave the appearance of greater oversight. No explanation was given for the updated numbers.

Earlier AP investigations have shown that the doomed rig was allowed to operate without safety documentation required by MMS regulations for the exact disaster scenario that occurred; that the cutoff valve which failed has repeatedly broken down at other wells in the years since regulators weakened testing requirements; and that regulation is so lax that some key safety aspects on rigs are decided almost entirely by the companies doing the work. For at more than 5 years this has been going on but the disaster took place on Obama’s watch and his regime is responsible for it.

Never surrender, never submit.

I wonder how many more Bush screw-ups lurk out there which Obama’s not had the time or the information to identify and rectify.

    Drill, baby, drill.

Drilling is the rigut thing to do. Obama not having the grasp he said he would led to the mess. He gramtrd the waiver.

Read your Wiki lonk on Katrina. It lays the bulk of the blame on srate and local government and indicates FEMA would have done much better if it did not have to deal with the Nagin and Blanco screw ups.

The only screw up I see is Obama. When the next terror attack is successful (Obama was lucky so far and certainly had nothing to do with them being ubsuccessful) any Dem who blames it on Bush should be beaten with a bat, and that means anyone who likes to point fingers.

I don’t know why Bigd suddenly wants big government interfering in the free market and the right of this private company to do as it wishes with the ocean. The market knows what is right and will figure it out, right? Where does it say in the constitution that people have a right to ocean water without oil in it? Doesn’t.

Government has its place and there is a plan that involves government so government should have executed the plan.

But, I think government regulation is part of the cause. If they could drill in shallower water this would not be as much of an issue because they could get to the leak more effectively. The other countries are out there drilling.

If government is going to control the waterways then it must be responsible for them. Not inspecting and not responding is not effective. If they want control then they need to control. If they do not then let other entities take the management over.

I love how Dog (and Rush the drug addict) try to pin this on Obama when it was Great Emperor Bush’s administration who was largely responsible for weakening regulation and oversight. Allowing MMS to evolve into a frat house/whorehouse agency and having Enron (remember them?) craft U.S. energy policy behind the locked doors of Dick Cheney’s house of horrors.

If Obama HAD pushed for better regulation, Dog would have called him a socialist. He’d have said that the gubment was laying claim to YOUR oceans. But since Obama foolishly bought into the big energy/drill baby drill bullsh!t that the right has been pushing for years, it is now his fault only.

You can’t have it both ways, Dog. At least, not in the reality based world you can’t.

The “government plan” had been in place since Bubba’s days in the WH- but he was too busy doing Lewinsky to check on its implementation- Bush did no better.
The Fireboom boats, you know adam, the ones that were supposed to have ALREADY been purchased according to that law, had not been- indeed, had not even been ordered by ANY of the administrations.
I guess the MMS and the EPA decided to play Russian roulette with the rigs, since nothing had happened SO FAR. Apparently they never read (for comprehension) the bumper sticker Sh** Happens-

Blake- should we attack the oil rigs? Gotta be “druggie people” squatting on the Deepwater Horizon by now, right?
