Powell Endorsement About Race And Nothing More

Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama today and the left is having more of those tingly feelings down their collective legs. This is not a surprise and I stated quite some time ago that Powell would endorse Obama because he is black.

Powell claimed that this was not about race and if he had to make that claim then it is a sure bet it was. Powell gave a few reasons that he was endorsing the most inexperienced candidate ever to be nominated and among the reasons were Sarah Palin’s inexperience (she has more than Obama) and the negative tone of the McCain campaign with its personal attacks. I guess he had his head covered during all the negative attacks on McCain and particularly on Palin.

Rush Limbaugh made a good point by saying; “OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with.”

It is a very good point because Powell has never endorsed any white person with Obama’s lack of experience and he rejected Palin based on her experience so the only difference must be color. I imagine that Powell thinks that an Obama administration would give him a job which he could not get under white presidents. Oh wait, both presidents Bush employed the man and the latest president appointed him to a position that no other black person had ever held, until his replacement was appointed. Yeah, that Obama will be a transformational figure which is a way of saying that having a black president will transform this country away from its racist self.

Powell made an endorsement that is in opposition to how he has lived his life and the only thing that makes sense is that he wants a black guy in there. He even said back in August that an African American president would be electrifying. He has been in support of Obama for quite some time but they needed to coordinate the best time to make the announcement. This, even though Powell earlier stated that he would not endorse a candidate. I guess when he threw his values away he threw his integrity out at the same time.

Powell is free to endorse whomever he wants. He has that right and I would have actually respected him if he had the moral courage to tell us the real reason and that is because Obama is black. But he danced around with these weak claims that are easily disproved and actually gave no reason why Obama would be a good president.

Powell should have had the decency to man up and say I am voting for him because he is black. By specifically telling us that it is not because he is black he tipped his hand.

This is one endorsement from one general. There are plenty of general officers who support McCain and many more than support Obama. This is not going to change the picture very much in my opinion because many will see this for what it is. The media are salivating because it is a black man who held a high position in a Republican administration. But this is the man that the media painted as a bad guy. The libtards hated Powell but I bet they embrace him now.

I must say though, that I find it sad that a career military man would put color ahead of country.

  1. I can’t believe how hung up you guys are on race as you whine on. Could it not be because of ethnicity? Not black or white but good old fashioned hyphenated Americanism as in Italian-American, Polish-American, Irish American or African-American…probably not because that wouldn’t fit into your narrow view of the real world.

  2. Sir Edmund Hillary says:

WTF? Are you some kind of tard or what?

  3. David Kirk says:

It is sad. To think a former Joint Chief of Staff would pick a man like Obama, lack of experience aside, who has never done anything for his country, over a man like Senator McCain. That is very disquieting.

  4. Adam says:

Yes, over 90% of black people are going to vote for Obama! Shocker. Over 90% of black voters vote for the Democrat every time. It couldn’t be that though right? It must just be the color of Obama’s skin…

  5. Justin says:

Man. I can’t believe we all haven’t seen McCain go off on Obama like he could. He needs to be exposed for what he is. It is only fair that both parties fill the American public in to what faults each one has. Powell is just NOW backing Obama cause he knows he will win. However, if everyone knew the ties that Obama has, votes might go the other way. People are so so dumb and research takes effort, something that the American people (such as myself) are lacking more and more. Seems like when something bad is said about either party the first thing people do is attack the other party, when we should see if the issue is true and how to fix it…. America is in a sad state of affairs, the dumbification of America is happening right in front of us!

  6. Big Dog says:

Well, there are over 300 million people in America and it is sad to think that these two are the best we could come up with. Having said that, McCain is by far a better person than Obama.

Adam, it is true that 90% of the black community is stuck on the Democratic plantation but Powell has never supported a democrat before. Kerry or Gore had a lot more experience than Obama and he did not endorse them. He has endorsed a man with a paper thin resume who is not in his party over a man with a long career of service who is in his party. What is the only difference?

  7. Dog: The Chicago Tribune never endorsed a Democratic presidential candidate since 1847. Not even Adlai Stevenson. Now why did the very white Tribune endorse Obama? What was the only difference? Ummmm, let me guess: How about the much better candidate!

  8. Adam says:

You constantly sell Obama short talking about thin resume and lack of experience yet you deny the one thing Obama is best at. He motivates, inspires and brings folks together in a way we haven’t seen since maybe since RFK. He’s got the youth vote, the black vote, and the latte sipping yuppy vote. Combine that with other traditional Democratic bases and you got a formula that that scares y’all to death. I love it.

So what do you do? You make up stories about how blacks are racist because they overwhelmingly support a candidate who is a highly educated, well respected member of the African American community that has spent his adult life working on causes related to them. He has motivated African Americans to get out and vote, to canvass, to raise money, spread the word, and just generally help him kick ass on the campaign trail.

Now another well respected black man has endorsed Obama because of all these reasons and what do you do? You say say, “Obama’s black, they’re black, Powell’s black, that’s why they all support him.” Pathetic and short sighted.

  9. Adam says:

But hey, forget the guy who unites, drives, and inspires folks like we haven’t seen in decades. Forget the guy who re-aligns the political map away from the idiotic blue state red state mentality, puts almost every state in play, and sets the bar for campaigning and campaign finance in this new century.

Instead every party should aspire to nominate a man half the base has never been able to stand or give a crap about who doesn’t inspire anybody in any positive way and in fact makes it so that a lot of folks have to hold their nose to vote for him and those that will vote tend to be voting against the other guy instead of for their guy.

That worked so well for the Democrats and Kerry in 2004…

  10. Big Dog says:

    monroe,
Maybe because he is from Chicago?

Obama inspires people who are already inclined to agree with him. He has never worked on any bipartisan legislation (of any consequence, like politically risky) and he has voted with his party 97% of the time.

Regardless of all this he turns maps colors crap the fact is about 50% of the country will not like him.

If Republicans don’t like McCain it is a good indication that he has worked with Democrats on things we do not like. Obama has never, ever done that. He will not take a risk.

Powell is a decent man (though I have some problems with his Vietnam POW position from the Kerry/McCain days) and I respect his service. to me though, his endorsement is about race and the fact that he said it wasn’t tells it all.

Interestingly, you mention the nomination of McCain but neglect to mention that the left has nominated a man who has accomplished little, has little experience, stated himself that he was not ready to be president and was chided as unexperienced by the very people backing him now including his running mate. How did all that change?

If Obama wins I predict a huge House turn over in 2010.

He will not unite and he will not work in a bipartisan way. He has not united. He has mostly excited liberals who have been upset for a long time. McCain has some Democrats supporting him. Funny, I mention Powell and I am a bad guy but the left has beaten Lieberman half to death and will strip him of everything if they get enough seats in the Senate.

  11. Kim Spinney says:

    Big Dog,

    I admire your patience.

I am dreading these next four years if the press gets there way. Anybody with a brain and thinks for themselves knows that if the press had done its job, we’d be having hillary as the dem candidate.

I agree this piece of crap will do much to lead the ruins of this country, just like bill stole and hollywood elitist and the devil himself, raped this country redifining good as bad, et. al.

I hope that America will wake up in four years. But who knows, maybe the press is over counting the dems and it is not as it is reported.

  12. Adam says:

Obama inspires folks that already agree with him? In case you haven’t noticed, there’s not a single state the GOP has picked up differently from 2004 and 9 others in play for Obama that weren’t for Dems that time. Again you sell him short because you can’t stand him but really you’re only kidding yourselves here.

Don’t take my word for it though. Let the fine folks of Colorado, North Carolina, and North Dakota speak for me. Those states are in play now for Obama because he is gathering supporters from places that haven’t voted Democratic in years.

You guys scared yet? Looks like it from the way you talk in terms of the apocalypse…

  13. Big Dog says:

I am not scared because I do not get scared. I can adapt and overcome. I will survive any presidency.

    I survived Carter and Clinton.

Let us wait and see on election day if they speak for you. I predict that 3000 counties will be red and fewer than 1000 will be blue on a country map.

  14. Adam says:

Is that 3000 the pro-America counties?

  15. Big Dog says:

Of course Adam, you would take what Palin said out of context. She was comparing the places they visit to Washington DC (the political machine in it). Here are her remarks:

“We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe” — here the audience interrupted Palin with applause and cheers — “We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation.”

She continued: “This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans. Those who are running our factories and teaching our kids and growing our food and are fighting our wars for us. Those who are protecting us in uniform. Those who are protecting the virtues of freedom.”

You see, DC is not the real America, where people live and go about normal lives is.

    Read it all.

  16. Adam says:

What about the big liberal cities?

  17. Big Dog says:

Why would they visit big liberal cities (why would anyone)?

  18. Adam says:

    Good point…

  19. Norris Hall says:

    Is it about race?
Only one person knows for sure…and it’s not Limbaugh.
Powell claims that he’s not happy with the “rightward shift” of the Republican party. But is there any merit in his accusation???
Listen to the views of Republican Senator Michelle Bachmann
Video of Senator Michelle Bachmann on Hardball
So…what do you think??. is Colin Powell was just being overly sensitive, or does he have a point???
