Point To Ponder

It is all a matter of perspective.

Subject: North Dakota News Bulletin

For those of you who are not aware, North Dakota and southwestern Montana got hit with their first blizzard of the season a couple of weeks ago.

This text is from county emergency manager out in the western part of North Dakota after the storm.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here in the Northern Plains we just recovered from a Historic event — may I even say a “Weather Event” of “Biblical Proportions” — with a historic blizzard of up to 24″ inches of snow and winds to 50 MPH that broke trees in half, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed all roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10’s of thousands.

George Bush did not come….
FEMA staged nothing….
No one howled for the government…
No one even uttered an expletive on TV…
Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards…..
No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House….
No news anchors moved in.

We just melted snow for water, sent out caravans to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars, fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Aladdin lamps and put on an extra layer of clothes.

Even though a Category “5” blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early…we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

Everybody is fine.

Think about this for a moment,

After a severe blizzard, do the people involved still have a home to go to when it is done?
The cars that sheltered them in the snow, did they wash away in 7 to 10 feet of water?
The clothes that they are wearing during the storm, are they they only clothes they have left after the storm leaves?
The stores, banks, hospitals, schools and churches……..are they still there when the snow stops?
Could you sit inside of your home when the snow reached 44 inches, or did it create 10 to 20 feet of storm surge?
In the “couple of hundred of miles” of devastion, simple people became heros in boats….not big rigs….and I bet they did not ask for a penny either.
After the blizzard, are all of your friends and family members forced to live in different states?
After a blizzard, does your unemployment jump up 85% and 250,000 of your neighbors are out of work for more than a week?

    Just thinking out loud!

No, and after all the blizzards I have lived through the government never showed up and handed me $2000 debit cards and low interest loans to repair the damage. MJy insurance took care of that.

You are of course, making the assumption that the government is responsible for taking care of the problems caused by nature.
