Pass A Law, Then Pass The Bong

The Supreme Court ruled this week that people who are sick with cancer may not use marijuana to ease the side effects of chemotherapy. The interesting thing is that it was the liberal judges who made the determination. Here are the democrats in the senate worrying about George Bush slipping in conservatives who will stop free liberties and the liberal justices on the Supreme Court did a very un-liberal thing. There are going to be a whole lot of people out there who say the justices are wrong.

Here is a news flash. The Big Dog is not one of them. I am not against the use of marijuana in the treatment of disease or the side effects of medication. I have no problem if they make it legal to use in these cases. I would have a problem if the Supreme Court decided it was legal because they would be legislating from the bench. If there is such a need for marijuana to be used for medical treatment then the Congress, those elected to legislate, should pass a law.

I imagine there will be many who are upset about this decision. I will remind folks that during the Schiavo fiasco the left continually reminded us that the judge was only enforcing the law. Everyone knows that I believe it was bunk because the judge had no paperwork to prove Schiavo’s desires, but be that as it may, we had the enforcing the law idea shoved down our throats. As a matter of fact, we were constantly reminded that each appeal was denied based upon the law. The left and those opposed to life (which are most often one in the same) made it clear that the judge was upholding the law and that we should get over it. OK, now it is your turn. The law makes using marijuana illegal. There are no exceptions for medical reasons. It is illegal no matter what.

So the choice is clear. Have your elected officials change the law. The Supreme Court, or any court for that matter, is not empowered to enact law. Only the legislative branch can do that so until they do, get over it because the judges were just following the law.
