Palin Backed The Better Choice

The Democrats went nuts over Sarah Palin when she was selected to be John McCain’s running mate. They still foam at the mouth at the mention of her name and they continually go out of their way to paint her as an idiot not worthy to shine Obama’s shoes. They believe she is an idiot for attending so many colleges and taking so long to complete her degree. The fact that she had to take time off to work to earn money to complete school escapes them because their affirmative action leader had a free ride (possibly as a foreign student).

Palin continues to be a thorn in their sides. She has sold more books than their sainted leader and she is doing quite well despite their attacks.

During the campaign the left made a big deal out of Palin’s support for abstinence only sex education. After it was learned that her daughter was pregnant the left used it to “prove” that abstinence education did not work. This is like saying that Ted Kennedy’s accident that killed a young woman (who was not his wife) is proof that driver’s education does not work.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the Palin bash. A new study shows that abstinence only education has better results than safe sex classes. Jack Cafferty of CNN presented the study fairly when he reported:

that only “33 percent of sixth and seventh graders who took an abstinence-only program began having sex within two years,” compared to “52 percent who were taught only about safe sex…[and] 42 percent who learned about both safe sex and abstinence,”

In true government fashion, Obama’s budget cuts funding for the most successful program of the three.

Considering what Obama and the Democrats are doing to the taxpayers we might be better off with safe sex programs…

Since you agree with the conclusion you all of the sudden find the science oh so correct and verified? Shocker. The only thing that would have made this one better for you is if it was done by Rasmussen.

The problem is this study goes contrary to every other study over the last few decades on sexual education. As folks say in this article on the research, it’s going to take a lot more than one paper to reverse the evidence that abstinence only education is useless and a waste of money.

Don’t pretend it’s only liberals who act like Palin is an idiot. The conservatives just waited until after the election as a show of unity and then when it all went bad they had a collective outcry of “What were we thinking?! This woman is stupid.”

It’s almost universally accepted outside of a small band of deluded, wishful thinking conservatives that Sarah Palin is not fit for public office, much less the Presidency. Recent polls even show they just want her to go away.

I for one want her to stay in the spotlight. She’s a great example of your side of the isle. I say nominate Sarah Palin for president. If she somehow wins then the union is strong enough to protect against her. Americans will finally catch on how bad Republicans are for the country and the Democrats will have their strong majority back in Congress soon after. It’s win, win.

    Adam’s exactly right.

    As I posted in June:

Abstinence only education doesn’t work, is an utter farce, and Palin and her situation are a *prime* example of this. I went in one day and did a little one hour show about the failure of Abstinence Only Education on our local cable access TV station (The Cat). Turned out, it won documentary show of the year. A nice surprise. My powerpoint slides for the presentation have lot’s data on this and can be viewed by anyone, here:

“Every reputable sexuality education organization in the U.S., as well as prominent health organizations including the American Medical Association, have denounced abstinence-only sexuality education.”

    • Adam says:

We may see programs now or in the future that involve abstinence only education that work better than other sex education programs. At this point however, the evidence is far more conclusive to the failure of this type of education. Taxpayer funding for these types of programs certainly shouldn’t grow and they should certainly not be touted as the overwhelming successes that conservatives seem to pretend they are.

    • Darrel says:

It’s important to remember that teaching sexual abstinence is an important part of any comprehensive sex ed.

The problem is *specifically* with “abstinence only” education. The people who promote this do so for illogical religious reasons and they invariably end up teaching misinformation in place of very important accurate information. Kids actually need to know how their bodies work for basic health reasons. They need accuracy and honesty, not religious mumbo jumbo, guilt trips and scare tactics (which is what the abstinence only people traffic in, while excluding all other options as if they don’t exist).

This isn’t even an issue in our typical peer countries. They teach proper, accurate, age appropriate sexual education, and they invariably get better results. We let religious nuts interfere with sex and science education and then reap the predictable results of a populace with a very poor understanding of science and far higher STD rates and teen pregnancy than we should have. This can also be clearly seen in state comparisons.

“For decades, America was the preeminent
destination for the world’s innovators. Scientists of all kinds left their homelands to learn the ropes at top-flight US universities – and often stayed put to earn high salaries. Many countries struggled to stop this brain drain to the US.
But today, the giant sucking sound may be flowing in the other direction. Just this year, 325,000 Chinese earned engineering degrees. The US, by contrast, gave out just 60,000 – fewer than it did a decade ago. And international enrollment at US campuses has been falling.”

Gee, I wonder who is buying all those books?

“Sarah Palin Uses PAC to Buy Her Own Book
Political Action Committee Paid More than $60,000 for Copies of ‘Going Rogue’ in Late 2009

Sarah Palin has been using her political action committee to buy up thousands of copies of her book, “Going Rogue,” in order to mail copies of the memoir to her donors, newly filed campaign records show.”

    ABC News

Palin PAC Spent More On Books Than Candidates

    • Adam says:

That isn’t just Palin either, this is just the most recent example. That practice is typical of most of the best selling conservative books that conservatives want to brag about shooting to the top of the best seller list. The number of books sold when it comes to political books is not an indicator of who has read that book.

    • victoria says:

This just shows what low lifes you are because it amounts to about 4700 books and the number of donors for about a month and it is something many politicians have done or will do. Give books to donors. You try to make a scandal out of nothing. Why–because people like her and her values and beliefs and not yours.

      • Adam says:

“Why–because people like her and her values and beliefs and not yours.”

Some people, yes. Most Americans? No. A majority of Americans think Palin is unqualified to be President, would not vote for her if she ran, and generally do not have a favorable opinion of her. They just want her to go away.

        • Big Dog says:

Funny though, in polling she is only 8 points behind Obama. If she is so dumb then how is he not killing her?

        • Adam says:

How smart or dumb she is has nothing to do with her popularity really. Dick Cheney is a very smart man but his popularity was about that of a rectal exam.

It’s a multi-pronged argument with Palin. She says and does stupid stuff that makes her long dumber than she actually is, she quit the job that was giving her the kind of experience you folks always talk about in a president, and Americans just aren’t that into her.

        • Darrel says:

Bigd: “Funny though,… [Palin] is only 8 points behind Obama.”>>

          DAR
Sure she is. Funny though, EVEN republicans don’t want her to run. Her unfavorable rating is 41%, her favorable is 26% (Obama’s is at 58%).

Palin ran from her task of running the fourth smallest state (population). It was the highest position she will ever hold.

“A new CBS News poll finds that a large majority of Americans say they do not want former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to run for president.

Specifically, 71 percent say they do not want the former Republican vice presidential nominee to run for president, while 21 percent say they do want her to run.

When the results are split out by party, 56 percent of Republicans say they do not want her to seek the office and 30 percent do. Meanwhile, 88 percent of Democrats do not want her to run. Among independents, 65 percent do not want her to run and 25 percent do.

Now, 26 percent of people view Palin favorably, compared with 23 percent in November and July of last year. Forty-one percent now view her unfavorably…”

Interesting, Adam- I happen to like Cheney and his mindset- he knows what to do to the enemy, and that is not to suckle at AG Holder’s teat, but to be waterboarded until they grow gills.
Progressives always suck at real life situations, because they have never had any- Owe-bama’s administration has fewer people with “real world” experience than ANY OTHER- and that is telling in their mindset- because they cannot bring themselves to conceptualize any real world solutions.
Academics are the worst wussies there ever were, and as I told my daughter in College- “Question them on EVERYTHING, even the time of day, because they are likely to be wrong about that also.”

Here’s an example of Gringrich pushing this misinformation here. Politifact gives it a thorough debunk here.

After it was debunked the fellow who slapped this thing together took it down and:

“…expressed regret that his work had been used for political ends, saying that it was not his intention to provide fodder for bloggers and talk show hosts.”

The site that originally posted this flawed information in the form of a graph (which was echoed all over rightwingland), took this action:

“After discussions with the person who created the chart, I’ve decided to take it down and the rest of my commentary as well.”

My devotedly religious parents were taught they were to do this. They didn’t get around to it. For some reason religious folks tend to forget about this one. See Palin.

      DAR
You’re absolutely right. Evolution is taught in science class and creation stories (there are at least 100 of them) should be taught in comparative religion class. This is because “And God said…” is never science, is always religion, as the courts have ruled.
