Pajama Jihadist Or Professional Reporter?

News is out that the LA Times ran a story that was bogus. The reporter found it on the internet and ran with it without verifying the story or checking with a few leads. The reporter found something on the internet and decided to write about it. Unfortunately, turns out the story was some fabrication as part of an April Fool’s prank.
Adam, at LostAdam, commented one time that we bloggers are not professional journalists and all we really do is get stories and information and regurgitate it. It would seem that we are not professionals, we pajama jihadists, so we should step aside and pay homage to those people in the world of journalism because they know what they are doing.
The sad thing is these people pride themselves as something better than the mainstream media. The “MSM†as they call it is biased they say, but blogs tell it how it is. Let this be an example of how blogs tell it like they want it to be, not how it is. At the end of the day we are all for the most part unpaid, unqualified, op-ed writers. Most of us have never been to journalism school. We spill opinion, and we spread ideas we did not come up with ourselves.
Yes, some bloggers do great work, bring in original ideas, and add personal touch to that. Others, like the examples above just grab facts already found by real journalists and spin it to fit their view of the world. At the end of the day I can’t say I’m not guilty of this myself, but you don’t see me with any self-glorifying ideas about the “blogosphere†and other made up words. Adam
Seems to me the reporter in this case was no different than many of the bloggers who read something and blindly write about it as if it were the truth. So I guess this does make the bloggers professionals….
