Mr. Obama- Build Up That Wall!

Well, Rahm Emmanuel, the president’s Chief of Staff, has conceded that at this time, there are just not the votes to allow the 12 million illegal immigrants to stay and become citizens. Good. No one should get a free pass, and there are people who have been waiting to legally become citizens for years. This process is, I admit, unwieldy and takes an inordinate amount of time, but then, nothing worth having should come too easy. We, as people, tend to value that which is hard won, rather than that which came too easy.
There is also the little problem with the unemployment here, and the fact that no congressman wants to be seen as giving these few jobs to those many illegal aliens- after all, until ACORN registers them, these illegals can’t vote, but our citizens can.
It astounds me that a nation that can put a man on the moon within ten years of the time President Kennedy announced it, cannot seem to complete a wall between Mexico and the United States- a simple wall- a wall that is needed for several reasons.
First, to stop drug smugglers and their cargo. This is a serious problem on the border. Anyone who thinks otherwise should take a walk on the streets of Juarez, or Tijuana- if you dare. The struggle for control of this trade will spill over the border in a big way, and will force people to take the law in their own hands if our government continues to be impotent on this issue.
Second, and equally important, is the smuggling of human cargo- some of the same smugglers do the same thing with people, and then, often hold them hostage until their “ransom” has been paid. In some cases the smugglers, or “coyotes”, as they are known, simply abandon the illegal aliens in the desert to die.
First we need the wall, if for no other reason than to funnel the potential immigrants into a port of entry where they can be identified, and fingerprints taken, and photos- whatever is needed to ensure that these people are who they say they are. The last four police officers that have been killed on the job in Houston, Texas, were killed by illegal aliens. Three of these criminal aliens had been deported several times from both California, and Arizona, and had returned. These are not people you want in society. These people are not a plus for the United States.
That is, quite frankly, astounding, considering the odds- you would think, if the illegal aliens are that peaceful and law- abiding, that the proportion that committed Capital offenses would not be so high. So, control is needed, and needed badly.
“I’m sure the civil libertarians will object to some kind of biometric card — although . . . there’ll be all kinds of protections — but we’re going to have to do it. It’s the only way,” Schumer said. “The American people will never accept immigration reform unless they truly believe their government is committed to ending future illegal immigration.”
By announcing his plans, Schumer, who chairs the Senate’s main immigration subcommittee, ushered in what Obama has signaled will be his next major legislative campaign, after the economic stimulus plan, health care and energy.
Schumer said legislation should secure control of the nation’s borders within a year and require that an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants register with the government and “submit to a rigorous process to convert to legal status” or face immediate deportation. Rejecting the euphemism “undocumented workers,” he said: “Illegal immigration is wrong — plain and simple.”

We not only need a “biometric card”, but we need more cooperation from Mexico regarding the criminals they know about- they need to keep their trash at home. I can pick up any Texas paper, and the Hispanic crime that is reported is three times that of any other race. Do keep in mind that a lot of the crime goes unreported because of fear of being deported, so it would be fairly safe to assume that the rate of crime is at least double that that is reported, perhaps more.
Understand this- I have absolutely no problem with legal immigrants- they are a plus for our society, but they must become legal, and they must go through the process, no matter how tiresome it seems to be. If and when they are legal, they do not need to fear the authorities, and can assimilate into this society the way other generations and other races have done in the past.
To say that this is impossible is in effect saying that the Hispanics of today’s generation are not as smart as their Irish, Polish, Indian, or Asian predecessors were, and thus need the “special” dispensation of amnesty.
I reject this premise- I feel that Hispanics are every bit as intelligent as anyone else, they just need the chance to prove it. Going through the process is a type of trial by fire, so to speak. The process tests your true desire to see this through.
And with the completion of the wall, and addition of foolproof biometric cards, both employers and employees can rest easy knowing that they are legally here and can proceed with their life without looking over their shoulders.
Then they can pursue the American Dream.

Obama Would Not Take His Own Health Plan

Barack Obama had his big infomercial on ABC last night and it looks like those poll numbers that are slipping are for real as the show had the lowest ratings of any show of the night including some reruns. Perhaps people are just tired of seeing him day in and day out. Since he is pushing this crisis in health care through and wants it done yesterday and since those without health insurance think of nothing else I would have figured he would have had 46 million viewers. I mean, he was talking about health insurance for that number of uninsured (though that is not an actual number).
He struggled the entire evening and could not make the sale. He had a hard time explaining what he wanted and he was vague in a number of areas. He received tough questions and was not very good at answering them. These are not my observation because I did not watch it. I am basing this on the observations of those who did and on the view of the network that carried it.
Obama gave away a little secret. It has long been speculated that the wealthy will not be bound by this (and Congress will be exempt) because they can afford what they want. They will not be denied care because it costs too much. Obama fits in that category. When he was asked if his family needed some treatment or care that was not covered would he live by that decision. He said that he wants his family to get the best care. In other words, as a millionaire he will ensure his wife and kids are cared for government plan be damned.
The bill is loaded with double talk and methods to disqualify the insurance you already have. It is designed to make you take government health care.
On the campaign trail Obama promised that if you liked your plan you could keep it. He said he would ensure you were not put on the government’s plan. Now he is saying that if your employer drops coverage then he can’t control that. He promised that you could keep it so he should find a way to keep that promise. Perish the thought. He wants us all on the government plan.
A commenter here likes to say that those without insurance or those with inadequate insurance are a burden to us all. We are all paying for them and they are a drain on society. Even if you pay your own medical bills he claims you are a burden and that your risks are built into his premiums (that is how a risk business works. Same for car insurance, homeowner’s insurance, etc).
What seems to be missing is that with government run insurance those of us who pay taxes ARE paying for everyone else’s insurance. A government run program is paid for with our tax money so we will be paying for the health care anyway.
The British hate their system and the Canadians have it no better. Those who are satisfied with it are the ones who do not get sick. Once they get ill and require a lot of care they rapidly find out how bad it is.
Obama failed to seal the deal. He made it clear that he would not adhere to it if it meant his family could not get care.
If it is not good enough for Obama and his family then it is not good enough for the rest of us. We are his employers and he should not forget that.
Say no to Socialized medicine.

On Ethics

Yesterday, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford called a news conference to explain his absence from his office for the past week.
He then proceeded to explain that he had had an affair with an Argentinian woman that he had know for eight years. This affair began casually, and later escalated, which brings me to a question; Why can’t people keep it to themselves? What mental defect causes them to think they are above it all? Where are the ethics every one of them so loudly proclaim?
The man was married, with four children, and he was stupid enough to think that there would be no consequences for his actions? Perhaps he thought for a moment that he was a Democrat- that might explain his mistaken temporary insanity regarding consequences- they never seem to have to answer for any criminal behavior- their side just shrugs and goes on with their lives, while Republicans fall by the wayside, doomed by their own admissions and moral lapses.
Why can we not actually have people in office who say what they mean, and do what they say. Why can we not have people in government who are actually good examples, instead of ” unindicted co- conspirator”, or “disgraced former_______” (fill in the blank).
This is not a new problem, nor is it limited to one party or the other. The entire House of Representatives once bounced more than 8,331 checks at their own bank- heck they forced it to close, and then when they had pledged to fix the problem, they promptly kited an additional 4,325 checks. And yet, none of these people had to pay an overdraft charge, as you or I would have.
Thomas Jefferson said, “The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” And that is just what the politicians are doing, on a scale larger than ever before, racking up a staggering $11,000,000,000,000 in national debt, with each family’s share coming in at $116,000.
Just say no- our interest payment to service this debt will be about $26,000,000,000- that is 26 billion, per month. You might be forgiven for thinking that the head of the Treasury Department could do the math, and tell the rest of the politicians, ” Hey- perhaps we should quit while we’re behind, instead of really behind,” but noooooo. Turns out, he is math- challenged.
He’s supposedly the right man for this job, and yet he can’t figure out his tax bill, even though his employer, the International Monetary Fund, had done the math for him, and even cut him a check for the right amount, and made him sign an affidavit saying that the check was to be used for his payroll tax. How stupid is he?
Oh, and let’s not forget Charlie Rangel, the Congressman from New York who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, the committee that actually writes the tax code. Apparently he’s not smart enough to read the code he writes, and failed to pay taxes ($75,000) in rental income from his villa retreat at the Punta Cana Yacht Club in the Dominican Republic. His excuse was that he didn’t know the tax applied to rental properties in the Dominican Republic. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
At least that is what the IRS tells us ordinary people- if it was we who had “forgotten” our tax obligations, we would be subject to the full might of the IRS in its quest to get “their” money from you.
The fact that there are serial lawbreakers in government today is a sorry state of affairs- why we tolerate them is beyond me. I personally do not care what party they claim to be from, as far as I am concerned, they belong to one class only- criminals. Where are the ethics they profess to have? Why do we tolerate these people working for us? Would you employ a known thief to clean your house? A car thief to detail your car? Why give known thieves the keys to our treasury?
James Madison is rolling over in his grave. “[Congress]… can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together. It creates between them that communion of interests and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyranny… If this spirit shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate anything but liberty.”
Ethics, like the Constitution, are not fluid things, but are supposedly the bedrock of our behavior, and should be doubly so for the politicians- after all, they are supposed to be representing We the People, a large group that needs good representation, not just someone who shows up for the perks. If we tolerate these crooks in our midst, we get the government we deserve.
Samuel Adams said that those who prefer the “tranquility of servitude” had best be prepared to “crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.”
He also said, in closing, “May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”

No Iranian Diplomats Accepted Invitation

According to the State Department no Iranian Diplomats have accepted the invitation to celebrate the 4th of July at our embassies. It should come as no surprise because that holiday celebrates our Independence, our freedom. That is something the Iranians are not interested in.
It would seem that Obama has not yet learned that they are not interested in making nice.
Though it is too bad they did not accept. I was hoping we could serve them some pork hot dogs.
How great would that be?

Obama Can’t Take The Heat

Obama is a man who likes his comfort. In the winter when it was cold he kept the White House very warm, warm enough to “grow orchids.” While he appears to think little of snow, as evidenced by his surprise that schools closed for just a little of the white stuff, he did not stay out in it preferring the comfort of his warm digs. He told us that we could not keep our thermostats at 72 degrees but when it came to his own comfort he kept it nice and toasty. We were told he does not like to be cold.
Snap forward to the Summer in DC and Obama is again a creature of comfort. Yesterday’s presser was moved from the Rose Garden to the James S. Brady Briefing Room. It seems that the humidity was too high for the sainted one. Summer is only a few days old and it was too humid. Sure, the claim was that it would make the press uncomfortable but they have been through this before. The real reason was stated after the faux concern for the press. The humidity would have made unflattering video.
Now I don’t care where they hold these things because I have no interest in what Obama has to say but to change because of a little humidity says a lot about the pampered White House occupant. Our troops are living in much higher heat and humidity and they cannot change where they are for comfort.
One would think their supposed leader could weather a little humidity. What was he afraid of, a bad hair day?
