Durbin Sold Stocks After Closed Door Meeting
by Big Dog on Jun 15, 2009 at 23:24 Posted in Political 18 Comments
Last year when the economy was beginning to tank the Treasury Secretary and Fed Chairman had a closed door meeting which was attended by Dick Durbin. The next day he sold off tens of thousands of dollars worth of mutual funds and by mid October had sold over $110k worth of stock and invested it in Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Stock.
Did Durbin get insider information that led him to sell the stock? A spokesperson says no but appearance is often reality and it sure looks like he acted on inside info.
Of course, will never know all of what was disclosed in the meeting but something prompted Durbin to sell.

Global Justice Initiative? Are you Kidding?
by Blake on Jun 15, 2009 at 08:58 Posted in Political 8 Comments
The FBI has been quietly re- jiggering the rule of law regarding terrorism, as it has begun to Mirandize terrorists at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. This is ridiculous, to say the least- the FBI has no business in the middle of a war, and treating combatants as if they were garden variety burglars is asinine- just the completely wrong application of justice.
The FBI and Justice Department plan to significantly expand their role in global counter-terrorism operations, part of a U.S. policy shift that will replace a CIA-dominated system of clandestine detentions and interrogations with one built around transparent investigations and prosecutions.
Under the “global justice” initiative, which has been in the works for several months, FBI agents will have a central role in overseas counter-terrorism cases. They will expand their questioning of suspects and evidence-gathering to try to ensure that criminal prosecutions are an option, officials familiar with the effort said.
Though the initiative is a work in progress, some senior counter-terrorism officials and administration policy-makers envision it as key to the national security strategy President Obama laid out last week — one that presumes most accused terrorists have the right to contest the charges against them in a “legitimate” setting.
The approach effectively reverses a mainstay of the Bush administration’s war on terrorism, in which global counter-terrorism was treated primarily as an intelligence and military problem, not a law enforcement one. That policy led to the establishment of the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; harsh interrogations; and detentions without trials.

Treating terrorists with kid gloves is just the wrong approach-we can see how well this worked for Clinton, when he bombed an aspirin factory, thinking it was a terrorist bomb- making center- or the times he misfired trying half- heartedly to get bin Laden. Oooops. His bad. But then, he was kind of occupied at the time with blue dresses and kneepads. The FBI, otherwise known as the feebs, should be concentrating on the tax troubles of all the democrats, but I can understand why the dems want the feebs out of the country- anywhere but near Capital Hill, where there are true criminals. No, instead of leaving overseas operations to the CIA, the FBI is going into unfamiliar territory, which will make their job that much harder.
Regardless of where any bad guy is caught, we want the bureau to be in a position to put charges on them,” the official said, adding that the Bush administration’s emphasis on CIA and military operations often marginalized the FBI — especially when it came to interrogating suspects.
Like others interviewed for this article, the official spoke on the condition of anonymity because no one has been authorized to discuss the initiative publicly. “We have no comment on it at this time,” FBI Assistant Director John J. Miller, the bureau’s chief spokesman, said when asked about the initiative.

The CIA has been marginalized, and wrongfully so- they have been the boots on the ground versus the FBI, who will now have to rely on the CIA’s contacts, and that’s going to hurt the flow of information. All this talk of torture has been a red herring- in the first place it is “enhanced discomfort”, and was used on three people, total. In the second place, these are people who do not play by any set of rules, and if we handicap ourselves, we will lose. I will say this again- We Will Lose. Anybody with a lick of common sense will recognize this fact.
When you go into a fight, you go in to win. If you are fighting fair, you are using a losing strategy. Rules are great for parlor games, and football, but if your opponents are cutting your heads off, it is time to get real.
IA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said the agency would continue to play a central role in interrogations and counter-terrorism operations — using techniques approved by the U.S. Army Field Manual– in conjunction with other U.S. agencies.
Behind the scenes, some intelligence officials are resisting a broader criminal justice role overseas for the FBI, contending that it could inhibit the flow of intelligence if their own agents, or foreign governments, believe top-secret sources and methods might be disclosed during criminal prosecutions.
Two senior U.S. officials said efforts are being made to ensure that intelligence-gathering and law enforcement efforts proceed side by side. They stressed that the CIA and military would continue to play pivotal roles, particularly in gaining strategic intelligence against terrorist groups and thwarting future attacks.

Yes, I am sure, with all the turf wars in the past, that the CIA, the Military, AND the FBI will get along swimmingly. After all, haven’t they always? You know, there is a reason that the CIA is forbidden from domestic operations- the FBI should be forbidden from overseas operations, simply because it makes sense- you have a territorial familiarity that goes along with your principal duties, and I can guarantee that the CIA knows the streets of Kabul much better than the FBI, and should be in the lead.
But that wouldn’t suit Husseins’ New World Order, now would it? I believe it is time to rename Hussein FUBAR- because this is what he wants to do with our country,
Next, he’ll send Andy Griffith and Barney to Pakistan- oh joy.

Terrorists, Coming To A Neighborhood Near You

And maybe even yours…
Barack Obama showed a lack of maturity and leadership by setting a date certain that club Gitmo will be shut down. Now he is finding that all the Hope and Change chants are not getting other countries to take the inmates. Now he is running out of time and he needs to do something with the terrorists. Obama has not ruled out bringing these people to the United States:
A White House spokesman says the Obama administration hasn’t decided whether or not to release Guantanamo Bay detainees in the United States.
Spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama has made clear “we’re not going to make any decision about transfer or release that threatens the security of this country.”
Asked if that meant he was ruling out releasing any detainees in the United States, Gibbs said: “I’m not ruling it in or ruling it out.” AP
Obama has stated that he would not release anyone dangerous into the US. That is easy for him to say since he lives in a gated community with about 30,000 people working to keep him safe. He also rides around in an armored car. He will be safe, his wife will be safe and his little girls will be safe. The rest of us will be targets.
We should not be letting these people out into our country and if they must be released here they should be released in the White House and the neighborhoods of prominent Democrats.
Obama made a mistake and now we will have to live with it. If one of these people is released in the US and causes harm Obama should be brought up on charges of treason.
This is what you get when you allow amateurs to run the place.

The Stimulus And Jobs; A Visual Tutorial
by Big Dog on Jun 14, 2009 at 16:55 Posted in Political 34 Comments
Joe Biden was on Meet the Press where he said this about the failing stimulus:
Biden tells “Meet the Press” that “everyone guessed wrong” on the impact of the stimulus, economy was worse off than anyone thought.
Isn’t it nice to know the supposed leaders are guessing about how things will be? I know that much of what happens is based upon predictions and supporters are quick to point that out (since a prediction is an educated guess). They seem to have problems with reconciling the issue of what Obama said would happen with the Stimulus and what would happen without. While I realize jobs lag in any recovery, it was not I who said I would create or “save” so many jobs by certain points in time by spending nearly a trillion dollars.
Seems to me if you are going to spend that much money you really ought to have better people making the predictions. Obama predicted we would be at a certain place at a certain time and we are not there. Biden ducked that issue; “[Biden] Backs away from the estimate that the funds could create or save 3.5 million jobs, instead promises 600,000 by the end of the summer.”
Here is a video that shows this with training aids, for those who learn better that way:

The Rangel Rope-A-Dope
by Big Dog on Jun 14, 2009 at 15:45 Posted in Political 21 Comments
Charlie Rangel and his Democrat buddies are working on the Obama health care plan. The plan is supposed to provide health care coverage (we all have access) to those who have no health insurance. The actual number of people who have no health insurance is about a quarter of what politicians report because their numbers include people who have access but choose not to have it, are not entitled (illegals), and those who were without for a short period of time (like in between jobs and elected not to take the COBRA extension). The numbers also include those who are eligible for already available assistance but, for whatever reason, have not signed up.
The Democrats want to rush this trough like they did the bogus stimulus package so that people do not have time to react. They want to have this in place quickly before people find out what it costs and what it involves. Democrats will use sleight of hand and trickery to gain acceptance. They will display a grandiose health plan and talk about all the bells and whistles and how wonderful it will be but they will not talk about how it will be paid for. Sure, they will claim it saves money or that we can afford it by taxing the rich or other such nonsense but they will not discuss specifics. Charlie Rangel wants to make people feel real good about it all before he hammers them with the specifics. He must believe that once people are thrilled they will be less likely to oppose any method to pay for it. The only ones who will not oppose are the ones who won’t pay for it anyway.
In other words, they will not be discussing the $600 BILLION in tax increases required to pay for this monster. We cannot get that much money by taxing the rich so taxes will involve a lot of other folks. First they will consider taxing the health benefits that employers provide. Then they will continue to add taxes until they have forced everyone into government care or until the plan has grown into a monster like Medicare which is more expensive than private run insurance (the 2-3% operating costs are lies) and is less efficient. Rangel said he wants to butter people up before hitting them with the tax bill:
Rangel said that while House Democrats will likely release more details about health policy changes in their legislation next week, the package of offsetting tax increases and spending cuts likely will come later. Democrats, he said, want to put forth the more-positive aspects of an overhaul first. Rangel also wants to let lawmakers have time to study and weigh in on proposed offsets.
“We have a problem in not wanting to attract enough negative attention to the bill in terms of the pay-fors,” he said. “Let them get a good feel for the coverage.” Bloomberg
They have a problem in not wanting to attract enough negative attention to the bill in terms of the pay-fors. That means he does not want to put emphasis on how it will be paid for because it will garner negative attention, as it should. Rangel and his buddies, as indicated above, will roll out the plan without specifics regarding costs and then, later, hit us with the particulars on the cost.
They can’t let a crisis go to waste by telling us the truth because we might get negative.
The government does not belong in health care. It cannot run anything efficiently and it cannot run anything effectively. Everything government touches becomes bloated and suffers cost overruns.
Obama wants this rushed through. He and the Democrats are rushing head first into this with little regard to the consequences. They are going for this without long and proper debates reagrding the pros and cons of any government devised system. They are forcing their will on us.
Will it take a revolution before these people understand that they work for us? Will it take a revolution before they understand that we want smaller, limited government?
Anyone who does not pay taxes and ends up getting free health care (paid for by the tax payers) should have to work every weekend cleaning streets, picking up trash, cutting grass and cleaning graffiti.
When I was a kid my dad would make me get a certain kind of haircut. He said if he was paying for it he got to decide on the style. Those of us paying for other’s health care should have a say in just what care they get.
But remember, you will hear a lot about how wonderful it will be but you won’t hear much about cost. Rangel and the rest of the tax cheats will screw us with that later on.
