Once More, With Feeling

Immigration reform is a joke- but no one is laughing, at least in Texas, where the crimes of illegal immigrants and Hispanic on Hispanic crime is ballooning despite the “Sanctuary” Police Chief, Harold Hurtt’s repeated denials. One can turn the pages of the newspaper, which, even if liberal, still must cover the news- and glean from these pages the fact that these crimes outnumber those of any other group by far. An example:

Police issued a search warrant at the home of a gunman who fatally shot an Houston police officer last week before being gunned down during an undercover sting, authorities said Saturday.

According to KHOU, officers discovered a large amount of stole merchandise — including refrigerators, washers and barbecues — at the northwest Harris County home of Roberto Pedroza Carrillo.

The 37-year-old shot and killed Houston Police Officer Henry Canales in the parking lot of a Walgreens drugstore at Hillcroft and Bellaire Tuesday night. He was then shot and killed by another officer.

Authorities searched the home Friday night, said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Jodi Silva, adding that the search was part of the ongoing investigation and declined to give further details.

Canales was part of an undercover team investigating stolen televisions. Money was exchanged with undercover officers when Carrillo shot Canales, authorities said.

Another officer tried to take the gunman into custody when Carrillo fired at him. The second officer, who was not hit, then shot Carrillo, who died at the scene.

Andres Nava Maldonado, 41, of Mexico, and Xiomara Mendez Rosales, 36, of Honduras, who were with Carrillo at the time of the shooting, allegedly fled the scene. They were later arrested and charged with capital murder, authorities said.

A juvenile female was also arrested.

No further information was immediately available.

This is but one example in a paper that can spew forth at least five other examples in a day- this one unfortunately involved the death of a police officer doing his duty. The last three officers who died in the line of duty did so at the hands of illegal aliens- people who should never have been here, but were allowed to stay because of misplaced “feelings” and “sympathies” on the part of liberals who feel there should be no borders at all.

I feel there should be a tight wall, and armed guards, especially on the southern border, but eventually on the north as well. Good fences make good neighbors, it is said, and at the very least, this would funnel people more towards legal ports of entry, and we could better control who is coming here.

Sen. Chuck Schumer has the idea of Biometric cards (ID cards- imagine that!) that these people could carry around so we know that they are who they say they are. This idea is meeting some resistance.

For example, New York Sen. Charles Schumer’s proposal to require a biometric-based employer verification system as part of a comprehensive compromise has strong business support, but it would be a deal-killer for some on the left.

“An overhaul of the broken immigration system is unacceptable if it trades fundamental civil liberties for quick fixes,” said Joanne Lin, the American Civil Liberties Union’s legislative counsel.

On the flip side, any plan that offers a path to citizenship for people illegally living in the U.S. today will lose the votes of a wide swath of Democratic and Republican conservatives.

“It just doesn’t make any sense at a time of record deficits and high unemployment … to give amnesty,” said Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston.

At the moment, these conflicting crosscurrents have created a toxic political brew on Capitol Hill, where the White House does not have the votes for any comprehensive plan that would try to secure the border, give businesses continuing access to immigrant labor and provide some sort of legal residency to currently undocumented immigrants.

This conflict , of course, has Rahm Emmanuel, the Resident’s Chief of Staff, in a snit over the difficulty of trying to pass a lie off as the truth-

“If the votes were there, you wouldn’t need to have the (White House) meeting,” said Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s chief of staff, “You’d go to a roll call (vote). OK?”

Well, Okay there, doncha know- It seems that Hussein’s “goodwill” is rapidly running out among even the people who do not keep up with the news. Somehow, they are coming to the conclusion that Hussein might not have our best interests at heart, or really even care about the average citizen, and they are beginning to have concerns about keeping their money, and their jobs.

Immigration reform means different things for different people, but it should NEVER mean fewer jobs for the citizens of this country. Anything that happens should solve, not create problems in the system, and so far, nothing on the table seems to do this.

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees immigration reform, said the administration should be more concerned with enforcing current immigration laws.

“Especially now, with 14 million Americans out of work and President Obama himself predicting that unemployment will rise above 10 percent, we need to ensure that citizens and legal immigrants are not forced to compete with illegal immigrants for jobs,” Smith said.

I am tired of writing about immigration reform, but I will not cease until this, or another administration does the right thing.

1)- Complete the wall- no excuses, this wall is needed for several reasons.

2)- Arm the guards- the drug smugglers, and indeed the human smugglers are armed- level this playing field.

3)- All immigrants MUST be positively identified, and a foolproof card of some kind should be issued, for their benefit as well as ours

4)- Immigration must be strictly controlled, with jobs going to citizens first, and immigrants second. Our citizens should ALWAYS come first.

It’s really not that hard, we do not need to over think this- and in the end, this will be a net benefit to all concerned. The immigrants, armed with this card, will not need to fear the authorities, and the employers will know who they are hiring. Taxes can be properly paid, and social security can be collected and disbursed, all as it should be.

Drugs will have a harder time getting into the country, and Mexico can begin to take care of its own problems, instead of exporting them here.

This is a win- win situation.

All you need to begin with, is enforcing the existing laws.

That’s always a good start.

Where is your evidence they “were allowed to stay”? If they were “illegal” as you say, then they weren’t “allowed to stay.” You can’t have it both ways.
Mostly, people are allowed to “visit,” then they overstay, which they are not allowed to do.

It is a problem. The US needs to control it’s borders better. With terrorism, it is a security issue. I appreciate your attempt to formulate some solutions and win/win is always good but you don’t show how enforcing the existing laws would have caught these criminals. We don’t have an immigration gestapo. Should we get one? A wall would be very expensive and probably not work.

See: ladders. I can’t keep my goats in without 11,000 volts of encouragement (and they will walk through that if in a hurry). Primates are even sneakier and smarter than goats (well, most of them are).

That you would say we need a “tight wall” and armed guards on the Northern border as well reveals that you really don’t know much beyond cliche’s on this issue.

Talk about turning the country into a communist camp!

You might be interested in reading about how far back this (xenophobic and mostly wrong) notion that there is an illegal immigrant crime problem goes back. See:

    http://www.cis.org/articles/2001/crime/toc.html#fear

    Excerpt:

“Few stereotypes of immigrants are as enduring, or have been proven so categorically false over literally decades of research, as the notion that immigrants are disproportionately likely to engage in criminal activity…(If anything) immigrants are disproportionately unlikely to be criminal.”

    • Blake says:

Gee, D- are you saying the newspapers lie? They are just reporting the facts-is it just coincidence that these, and other people have hispanic surnames, were caught committing crimes, AND are illegal (as in in the country without permission)? In some cases, they had been deported and then returned- don’t you think a more aggressive policy might be called for?
The innocent immigrant might play well, if they had not committed an illegal act in coming over here. The rest of your study comes from those groups Irish, Polish, German, etc. that came here legally.

    • Blake says:

oh- and by “allowed to stay” I mean they were never actively sought out by authorities in “sanctuary” cities, thus “allowed” to stay by omission of action.

You can’t tell me that we can send a man to the moon but lack the know how to build a wall?

      • Darrel says:

Sending a man to the moon was cheaper, and easier.

Mexican fellow mutters to himself, smiling: “We humans can send a man to the moon but I am a human and they think I can’t figure out how to get past that fence?”

I have goats. Sixteen right now. They have escaped several hundred times. Fences are a bit of a specialty of mine (or I should say I know their limitations). I have found it better to just be nice to them and ask that they stay within their confined area as a favor to me. Which they mostly do. The 11,000 volts helps too (I shorted it once with a wet head and a good ground and passed out).

Penn & Tellor, the magicians, did a Showtime (Bullsh-t) show on this where they hired to some Mexicans to make a fence with similar specifications to what the minutemen were planning. Then they asked them to try and breach it by going under, through and over the fence.

As I remember, it took less than four minutes. All three categories were breached.

        Part two here.

        • Blake says:

No, actually, it is Penn who is a libertarian- and if we augment with live guards, we can have something that is more than we now have. It is always important to improve a situation, I believe you will agree.

        • Darrel says:

You’re right. I always get them mixed up. Met them both in Vegas, briefly. Maybe I’ll post the pictures in my forum sometime.

“It is the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with about 250 million people crossings every year.”

ps. The VAST majority of people enter legally.

        • Blake says:

I have no problem with legal immigration from anywhere- I do have a big problem with the illegal immigration- it unnecessarily depresses our wages, and creates a blue- collar jobs gap for Americans.
People who enter legally are and rightly should be welcomed, but let’s make sure they are legal.
You would want to know who’s coming to a party you were having, wouldn’t you? There might be some people you might want to keep out, right? If it’s your party, you get to make the rules for attending.
          Same principle, just bigger party.

You’re right. It does. I would be sorely pissed if there were a bunch of illegals running around tuning pianos for $25 in my area.

BLK: People who enter legally are and rightly should be welcomed, but let’s make sure they are legal.>>

          DAR
Do realize that aside from family members petitioning for their immediate family (parent/sibling/spouse), and some small categories of work sponsored specialties, there is, essentially, no legal immigration from Mexico. There is no form to fill out, no option. It doesn’t exist.

And the wait for family members (“first priority”), right now? They are working on 1991. So hard working Mr. Jose, who wants to legally come to the US to take care of his mum, has an 18 year wait. If he wants to do it legally. Try planning your life in this way, 18 years in advance.

I have a sister in Canada that would have liked to move down to live with her American mother, brother and sister (and dozens of other family members). She gave up about ten years ago.

Yet we are, in some areas, up to our eyeballs in illegals.

And up to our eyeballs in Americans who say, “I just wish they would do it legally.”

There is a reason they don’t do it legally.

          D.

        • Blake says:

After an answer like that, you are for the government running healthcare- they would end up like the immigration lines. I agree, the system should be, needs to be fixed to be more efficient. Just because the system is slow, is no reason to allow illegals in- it just explains why they try.

  3. JP says:

It is time to end this illegal immigration issue. All the US has to do is to start enforcing our laws, securing our borders and arresting employers who hire them. http://www.alipac.us
