Once Again, Big Dog Is Always Right

I reported that the Federal Response was not too slow. When we teach these responses we indicate there is a 72 hour YOYO (You’re On Your Own) period. Local officials are expected to be able to control the situation for the first 72 hours. Now we have accusations that the Guard was sitting around playing cards while people died. After driving for hours on end to get there, it is actually reported the guard went to sleep on arrival. But let us look at what someone had to say about the response:

“We expected a lot more support from the federal government. We expected the government to respond within 24 hours. The first three days we had no assistance,” he told AFP in an interview.

Riley went on: “We have been fired on with automatic weapons. We still have some thugs around. My biggest disappointment is with the federal government and the National Guard.

“The guard arrived 48 hours after the hurricane with 40 trucks. They drove their trucks in and went to sleep.

“For 72 hours this police department and the fire department and handful of citizens were alone rescuing people. We have people who died while the National Guard sat and played cards. I understand why we are not winning the war in Iraq if this is what we have.”

Here is what you get when you have a “the government will take care of me mentality.” Despite the fact that people are told it will take 72 hours (note the time frame mentioned) they expected help in 24 hours. I guess these idiots just think people sit around on a high state of alert so they can swoop into action on a moment’s notice and get there in 24 hours. Anyone with half an ounce of brains knows it is nearly impossible to do that. In addition, General Blum indicated that they did not expect the police force to break down as quickly as they did. Perhaps the jackasses on the ground can explain why their police were not able to control the situation as they are paid to do? Well, as soon as it was apparent they were not up to the task the Guard got in there quicker, but they still needed to rest before they went to work. Note to dipstick: We are winning the war. No wonder people died there with folks like you in charge and making decisions. You are incompetent.

Once again it is someone else’s fault that police officers could not handle the stress and that there are dead bodies all over the place. Perhaps they can stop blaming everyone else and answer one basic question for me. If they were so damned concerned and did all they could why are all these buses under water? Shouldn’t they have been used to evacuate people out of the city. Where was the Mayor’s head (clue: smelly place)? All these buses are worthless if not used. It shows a lack of planning and the inability to think clearly under pressure. The Mayor and his cabinet should be removed from office for incompetence.

Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00

‘The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating’…

Stop blaming everyone and take responsibility for your failures. Then get busy and get the mess cleaned up.
