Obama’s Katrina Is In Kentucky

The state of Kentucky has a lot of people without power and without basic supplies. 42 people have died as a result of the ice storms that hit the middle part of the United States this past week. The storms hit about five days ago and even though people are dying, Obama’s FEMA is nowhere to be found.

Yep, it has been five days and Barack Obama has not sent FEMA in to rescue people. He has not sent in generators so that people could have power and he has not sent in water so people would not have to get it from the creeks. Obama has not sent FEMA to the region and by all accounts Obama has not done a thing to help.

Barack Obama must hate white people.

When hurricane Katrina hit the Democrats used the disaster to gain political traction. They made claims that Bush was too slow to respond, that he hated black people, that his response was slow because most of those affected were black, that he did not do enough and he did nothing quickly enough. This played out over and over as the MSM made victims of people who refused to leave town before the storm hit. We all watched on TV as people were rescued from roofs because they refused to leave town. We also watched as people who were so accustomed to government providing for them stood in water looking around for help and unable to walk themselves to the nearby dry land.

To this day the left mentions Katrina and discusses the failure as a black mark on the Bush administration even though the majority of the blame belonged on the Democratic governor of the state and the Democratic mayor of New Orleans. Bush and FEMA got most of the blame because it was politically good for the Democrats and their media wing played right along.

I am willing to bet that the media are not as hard on Obama with regard to Kentucky as they were on Bush with New Orleans. Obama has neglected the people of Kentucky and there are no media around to tell the story like when Katrina hit. Then it was wall to wall with all the big names lining up to bash Bush over his mishandling of the hurricane response.

The media are not in Kentucky with wall to wall coverage about people dying in the cold while Obama sits in his extremely warm and toasty Oval Office. No media to provide constant coverage of FEMA and its terrible response because Obama has not deployed FEMA so there is no response. Kentucky has some FEMA folks in the Emergency Operations Center but that is not going to help much.

I guess the media are ignoring this because there are not a bunch of poor black folks sitting on roofs crying about their fate. There is no Republican president to hammer over the issue.

Instead they have a black president who obviously hates white people in red states and he is showing his hatred by not sending in FEMA and by not helping. He has not even flown into the area to survey the damage. It is cold there and he is from Hawaii you know. Maybe he will consider gracing those people with his presence but only after he has his Superbowl party. If it were Bush the left would be having fits.

Maybe he can take Al Gore with him to discuss global warming as the cause…

Of course the folks in Kentucky say it would be nice to have the resources of FEMA but they can get along without the feds helping.

“I’m not saying we can’t handle it,” Smith said. “We’re handling it. But it [FEMA help] sure would have made life a lot easier.” My Way News

Maybe, in the aftermath of Katrina where people complained about sole source contracts, the feds are out soliciting bids to help in Kentucky. Anyone familiar with the government bidding process already knows it will be Summer and all the people in Kentucky will be past this incident before the government approves anything.

But at least there will be none of those dastardly no bid contracts that drive liberals mad (unless Bill Clinton is issuing them).

Blue State: We need help, send Greyhound buses, the gubmint did not help. Where’s my $5000 debit card so I can get liquor and go to the nudie bar?

Red State: We can manage. It would have been a lot easier with their help but we will make it.

The last time I wrote about New Orleans I got over a hundred comments from people who live there all sniveling and blaming their woes on the government. I never saw where one took any responsibility or said that local government shared any of it. It was all the Corps of Engineers and Bush. I don’t imagine anything has changed so they still feel that way. But at least now they know that their messiah Obama hates white people and the folks in Kentucky are not getting FEMA help. Maybe, just maybe the folks in NO can watch and learn how people do things when they have to rough it for a while…

    Charles,

FEMA did respond. So did the local and state government, so did the federal government.

    Victoria,

Get your facts straight. Power is already coming back on in Kentucky. Kentucky Utilities is almost completely back on line. TVA service might still take a while. It wouldn’t if they had a nice infrastructure upgrade.

    • Big Dog says:

FEMA had some folks there in the EOC. The bulk of the hard work is from local resources.

Important to note that FEMA is not a first responder and they come in later but that was not good enough in NO.

  2. anon says:

You’re a fool. Get your facts straight.

“Blue State: We need help, send Greyhound buses, the gubmint did not help. Where’s my $5000 debit card so I can get liquor and go to the nudie bar?” <—– embarrassing, even for a BLOG.

  3. Victoria says:

    Per Louisville Courier Journal:
As of 5 a.m. today, about 138,000 customers were still without power within the E.On U.S. service area, spokesman Brian Phillips reported.

That includes 56,000 for Louisville Gas & Electric and about 82,000 for Kentucky Utilities.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear said he will ask the president to upgrade the federal response by declaring a major disaster, which would open the door for immediate financial assistance. The current disaster declaration provides for federal assistance with material, such as generators and bottled water being distributed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

  4. Victoria says:

I know people in the hardest hit areas and have been in contact with them practically daily and 2 of them still don’t have power.

  5. Randy says:

And an entire year after Katrina much of New Orleans still had no electricity. The response in Kentucky is going quite well in it’s flawed comparison to the Katrina response. Shall we continue?

    • Big Dog says:

Does not matter. The government m oved most of them away and gave them free room and board until it was repaired.

      • Randy says:

How long was it before those people in NO were moved? Most schools are set to be reopened in Western Kentucky by Wednesday. How long did it take to reopen schools in New Orleans? Mississippi Gulf Coast?

  6. Victoria says:

Remember when Obama claimed 10,000 people died in the Kansas twister and blamed Bush for states not having the resource to respond?

Obama pledged in the 2008 campaign, that “the federal government needs to be a strong, swift, effective partner with state governments in dealing with disasters.”

  7. Katy the mean old lady says:

    I’m confused …perhaps you have the answer;

How can 2 million African-Americans get into Washington, DC, in freezing temperatures in one day when 200,000 couldn’t get out of New Orleans at 85 degrees with four days notice?

    • Randy says:

You are confusing race with economic status. Also, people had over two months to plan a trip to D.C.

I’m not even going to acknowledge the obvious about your statement either. It is a sad attempt at baiting.

      • Victoria says:

You are the sad one–and you make it obvious when you discount a whole state full of people and say they are not worthy of being compared to the people of NO. What makes them less worthy of being helped and rescued faster than this? The size and scope? The state they live in? I don’t know it also includes parts of Arkansas and Texas. The biggest difference is who is President and if Bush were still in office–you would be blaming him for not getting there fast enough and you can’t tell me you wouldn’t. And Big Dog was just giving you a dose of your own medicine which you cannot take.

        • Adam says:

First of all Katy, don’t be such a racist. It makes you ugly.

Second, Victoria, don’t act like because you have friends or family in that area it somehow lets you lend credibility to this pathetic comparison. My entire family lives in AR and many of them including my parents, my brother, and grandparents are without power and running water still today. I’m here to tell you there is absolutely no worthy comparison between this ice storm and hurricane Katrina.

Local and federal authorities have responded quickly in these areas and are working as fast as possible. It is a total lie that FEMA wasn’t there and hadn’t sent generators. This whole post and thread was just a cheap political attack on Obama and it shows how low you’ll sink.

        • Randy says:

I never said anything of the sort Victoria. My parents live in Kentucky. I lived there for a time in my life. I was also born in Mississippi. I have a whole lot of family there. Both of these disasters have had a very direct and personal impact on my life. The difference is that Pass Christian Mississippi was for the most part, destroyed. In Kentucky, people aren’t rebuilding from scratch. That doesn’t mean that Kentucky and other states affected by the ice storm aren’t facing some real challenges. It is simply not comparable to Katrina’s devestation. And what medicine did Big Dog give me?

  8. Big Dog says:

    Randy,
    The answer is obvious. Planning.

    Something New Orleans lacked…

    • Randy says:

So now we are comparing the Katrina response to the Inauguration? Unreal. And classy to only mention African Americans. Classy indeed.

  9. Victoria says:

This whole post and thread was just a cheap political attack on Obama and it shows how low you’ll sink.

And it shows how low you will sink to defend him, especially since you have family there.

  10. Big Dog says:

    Adam,
It is no lie. FEMA was not there, only people in the EOC. And I said they were not providing generators for the people. The officials said that they provided them for hospitals.

And the local emergency guy said none of them had been there yet.

The comparison is that in these places hit by the ice storm local and state handled it well. In LA, they did not.

Regardless, it was foolish for you and all the others to criticize the time it took FEMA to respond to NO but then again none of you actually know their mission.

The real comparison is how you protected Obama for something he has little control over but criticized Bush for something he had little control over. We have also established that FEMA could not get there any quicker and that they are not first responders. We further established that the responsibility lies with state and local leaders and that the ones in KY are doing a very good job while those in LA failed miserably.

Thanks for participating in this. It took a lot to get you all to finally admit that the attacks on Bush were politically motivated but it was worth it.

BTW, it is not Bush’s fault that the electricity is still out down there in some areas. Some areas in Florida are still waiting for repairs from hurricanes that happened well before Katrina. But itis up to the people and their local representation. It will not go any faster with Obama in there.

  11. Randy says:

It’s a stupid comparison. And Steve Beshear is a Democrat.

  12. Big Dog says:

Now Randy, did I mention a political party or did I say that the politicians in KY and the other affected areas did a good job and those in LA did not. I believe it was the latter because I did not mention a political party.

There are Democrats who can lead and do a good job of it.

Most of them are not liberal.

But go back and read that again. I know you are embarrassed to have to admit it was all Dems in LA that screwed it up but that does not mean that other Dems could not do a good job.

  13. Randy says:

You mentioned Republicans and Democrats in your post. And you are wrong. I would have been mad as hell at an Obama administration that acted the way the Bush administration did after Katrina.

  14. Adam says:

It would mean something if the KY emergency was in any way at the scale of the Hurricane Katrina emergency. It is not. To suggest we are somehow covering for Obama when Obama has done nothing on scale with Bush’s failure in LA just means one thing generally: You are a liar and a fool. It can only be said so many times though before it’s wasted breath…

  15. Victoria says:

    Bush’s failure in LA

Excerpts online about Katrina and Mayor Nagin:
Perhaps the most important criticism of Nagin is that he delayed his emergency evacuation order until less than a day before landfall, which led to hundreds of deaths of people who (by that time) could not find any way out of the city.[2] Adding to the criticism was the broadcast of school bus parking lots full of yellow school buses which Mayor Nagin refused to be used in evacuation. When asked why the buses were not used to assist evacuations instead of holing up in the Superdome, lack of insurance liability was given as a reason.

Nagin first called for a voluntary evacuation of the city at 5:00 p.m. on August 27 and subsequently ordered a citywide mandatory evacuation at 9:30 a.m. on August 28, the first such order in the city’s history. In a live news conference, Mayor Nagin predicted that, “the storm surge most likely will topple our levee system”, and warned that oil production in the Gulf of Mexico would be shut down.[11] President Bush made a televised appeal for residents to heed the evacuation orders, warning, “We cannot stress enough the danger this hurricane poses to Gulf Coast communities.”[

Bush was criticized for not flying to Louisiana until after Wednesday afternoon, more than a day after the hurricane hit on Monday.[19] Many claimed that on the morning of August 28, the president telephoned Mayor Nagin to “plead” for a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, and further claimed that Nagin and Gov. Blanco decided to evacuate the city only in response to that request. These claims, were never substantiated with any recordings, however Blanco did tell reporters the President had called and spoken with her (but not Nagin) before the press conference.[20] The notion that a sitting United States President would have to personally call a state governor to stimulate an emergency response during a disaster was seen as a troubling development nationwide, and led to increased criticism of Blanco and Louisiana’s emergency response plan.
The entire northern Louisiana region was declared a disaster area by the Federal Government before Hurricane Katrina made landfall.

The American Society of Civil Engineers refers to the flooding of New Orleans as the worst engineering disaster in US history.[6]

The Federal government had no responsibilty to respond at all! You are the liberal liar and fool.

  16. Randy says:

The federal government has no responsibility to respond to the “worst engineering disaster in US history”?

  17. Bunny Colvin says:

Wow. I’ve been gone a few days and it looks like I missed some good stuff. KENTUCKY: OBAMA’S KATRINA is my vote for Dog’s silliest post of the year. And that is saying something.

Kudos Doggie! I know you’re mad as hell about the whole losing the election thing, but you have really outdone yourself lately. From this post to your warnings of the coming “revolution”, you’re starting to sound more like Mao everyday.

Crazy (r)epukes are really losing it now that they are out of power. It’s so fun to watch.

    • Big Dog says:

I am not mad. We do this every 4 years and will do it again.

I survived Carter I so I can survive Carter II.

      • Bunny Colvin says:

When does the “revolution” start? Who will be on the front lines, those who served in the Brooks Brothers riot of 2000? Those guys were warriors.

        • Big Dog says:

You will know it when you see it.

The Russians think by July of this year.

        • Bunny Colvin says:

Who will lead this “revolution”, Rummie? Or will Rush The Doper Limbaugh fight through the pain of his a$$ cyst and march the (r)epuke revolutionaries to Washington?

Have you dusted off the ol’ musket, Doggie? Time to take back America. Put down the Turner Diaries and get your a$$ out on the battlefield!

  18. Victoria says:

Within the United States and as delineated in the National Response Plan, response and planning is first and foremost a local government responsibility.[56] When local government exhausts its resources, it then requests specific additional resources from the county level. The request process proceeds similarly from the county to the state to the federal government as additional resource needs are identified. Many of the problems that arose developed from inadequate planning and back-up communications systems at various levels. One example of this is that the City of New Orleans attempted to manage the disaster from a hotel ballroom with inadequate back-up communications plans instead of a properly staffed Emergency Operations Center.[citation needed] When phone service failed, they had difficulty communicating their specific needs to the state EOC in Baton Rouge.

  19. Big Dog says:

The only wasted breath is the breath taken by liberals…

How did Bush fail? We have been through this before but you have absolutely no experience in emergencies, you do not work with FEMA and you don’t understand its mission and I doubt you know or understand the New Orleans emergency plan.

How can you possibly say what was or was not a failure when you don’t know what you are talking about? You can say a system failed or did not work as well as you liked but you don’t have a clue as to whom is in charge.

The only thing you know is the echo chamber of the left said Bush screwed up and killed people and you ran with it. You liberals keep discussing the problems in NO and how very different it was.

It was different for the rescuers as well. They had to run tens of thousands of dangerous missions to rescue people who refused to leave or were not evacuated. The ones FAILED BY THEIR GOVERNOR AND MAYOR.

There was a lot of rescuing that took place before the other stuff could proceed.

Protection and preservation of life is first.

    All else is second.

Victoria, you described it well. I know some of the folks who were there as part of the incident command. The locals screwed the pooch.

  20. Bunny Colvin says:

Victoria is, hands down, the cut and paste queen of this board. She is the champion, my friends.

Dog- Where have Scottie and Swines gone? THEY were once your best commenters.

    • Victoria says:

Well, if I just say something back like your full of it when you say it is all Bush’s fault, your going to say where do you get your facts from and then proceed to call me some kind of name also.

      • Bunny Colvin says:

Victoria- It’s cool. I would never say that it’s is all Bush’s fault. MUCH of the blame goes to Rumsfeld and Cheney. And to those weak kneed Dems who caved into the demands of Great Emporer Bush and Co.

  21. Victoria says:

Here is something very interesting to the “this is no comparison to Katrina crowd.”

    http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/03/letter-from-paducah-kentucky/

  22. Bunny Colvin says:

Victoria- Michelle Malkin is just a pretty face. You can do better. Please, gimme some of Bill Kristol’s best B.S. Malkin is a hack.

Question: Why is the writer on the link you sent calling Mitch McConnell? To whine about the Fed-er-al Gubment’s poor response? Why isn’t he writing a state official? He claims he ain’t cryin’ the blues to FEMA, but what does he want to ask McConnell? About shady campaign contributions?

    • Victoria says:

My point was not about Michelle Malkin, so call her what you will and it wasn’t about the letter writer other than the part pertaining to the electrical workers saying this power grid outage is worse than Katrina and they apparently were there. So try and name call and deflect all you will–whatever.

  23. Bunny Colvin says:

There were plenty of other problems beside power outages in Louisiana. Tell me this, has over half of the police force of any of these Kentucky towns deserted? How many of the hospitals are inoperable?

Now, I’m sure there is no looting or theft of any kind going on because the populations affected are predominantly Caucasian (or so say the race baiters on this board), but what about insurance fraud? You know, like those wonderful republican state and local officials did in Mississippi. They ran a “smooth” operation in a time of crisis (or so says Dog), but damned if they wudn’t gettin a lil’ extra on the side for it!

“Ensuring that they have food, water, some medical things,” Sergeant McMackin said in one of the National Guard vehicles as he conducted door to door welfare checks near Marion, KY.

This Marion native says there’s only one other natural disaster he can compare to this ice storm.

“I went down to Hurricane Katrina, and that is the best way I can explain it,” Sergeant McMackin said, although he believes the people here are better prepared to live without electricity.
