Obama Will Take Oath On Lincoln’s Bible

Barack Obama will be sworn in on the Bible that President Abraham Lincoln used when he took the oath of office. The Library of Congress has made the Bible available for the occasion.

Obama has been compared to Lincoln by his toadies though Obama has yet to do anything to be compared. The only comparison, with regard to political office, is that each freed a race from slavery. Lincoln freed blacks from slavery and Barack Obama freed whites (some, anyway) from the guilt of slavery. Lincoln is seen as a martyr for national reconciliation and Obama talks about reconciliation. In reality, Obama has yet to accomplish anything in the political arena. Well, he got elected so that is another thing he has in common.

However, I can understand why Obama would want to use Lincoln’s Bible. Lincoln was born in Kentucky and later made Illinois his home. Obama was born somewhere (depending on who you ask) and moved to Illinois as well. Lincoln freed blacks from the bonds of slavery thus allowing an America where a black person could hold office and be elected president and since Obama is the first, it is fitting. So there is some validity and thought to the choice.

I find it interesting that Obama would use a Bible of a Republican president (the first one) and one whose political views are the polar opposite of Obama’s. Also, Lincoln was known as Honest Abe. Let’s just say that honesty is not always Obama’s policy. Lincoln mistakenly overcharged a woman for tea (he used a wrong weight) and walked 6 miles to return her money. Obama’s plans do not include returning money.

I imagine that Obama had to pick a Bible used by a past president. I guess he couldn’t find one lying around his house…
