Obama Will Do What He Was Opposed To

I realize that campaign promises are just that and I never took Obama seriously. He is an inexperienced hack, a joke who does not know how to lead. He has a community organizer mentality in that as a community organizer he worked in a small community with no regard for money, no budget to worry about. Just organize and someone pays for it. He is an organizer in a larger community now and he still thinks that money is no problem because someone else will handle it.

We saw how he was opposed to ending the filibuster when Republicans wanted to do it. We saw how he criticized Bush for the Patriot Act and then he signed to extend it and we see him doing a number of things Bush did that Obama expressed dissatisfaction with. Obama promises come with expiration dates and he will say anything and do anything to get what he wants.

Obama told us in 2007 that getting 50 plus 1 vote was not the way to get things done. He said that they would not achieve things by getting 50 plus 1 vote. Obama even said that this kind of thinking was what Karl Rove engaged in because did not like government.

But Barry is firmly committed to using a process to get 50 plus 1 vote to pass his agenda. It is rather Rovian (by Obama’s definition) and must mean that Obama does not like government. According to his own words, he is now unable to govern. Obama specifically said that he was going to build a working majority and that he would not use the 50 plus 1 strategy to pass health care:

We are not going to pass universal healthcare with a 50 plus one strategy. We’re not going to have a serious, bold energy policy of the sort I proposed yesterday unless you build a working majority.” –Sen. Barack Obama, October 2007

Watch the video and listen closely to the jive talk. Obama is telling us what he thinks we want to hear. He is saying that he will get a working majority so he will not use the 50 plus 1 strategy that he NOW favors.

Why is Obama so hell bent on destroying his party? Why is he hell bent on doing something that so many oppose? Why will he not start over and build that working majority?

There are several reasons. He wants to impose on America social programs bigger than FDR and LBJ so that he can stake his claim in history as one of the progressive heroes. He knows that he will lose seats in November and the election of Scott Brown ushered in the reality that he could lose the majority in one or both chambers. He wants to do it now or he will not have the progressive legacy he believes is his birthright.

The other thing is that he believes that if he tanks on health care he will be seen as a failure. Republicans said this issue could be his Waterloo and now some Democrats are expressing the same thing. He is more worried about his image, his legacy and whether he is viewed as a failure than he is about America or his own party. Obama is so worried about passing his agenda that he is embracing a procedure that violates Senate rules. The way this bill has been amended and will be voted on (vote on Senate bill, add amendments and send to Obama) is not how legislation is supposed to be accomplished but none of this matters because Obama wants it done at all costs.

There are people in Congress who have been there for years who will lose their jobs this November and most of the blood will be on Obama’s hands. Some were going to lose anyway, no matter what, but there will be huge losses because of what Obama is doing. Some people who would otherwise win reelection are going to be gone because of Obama and his legacy. Others are quitting rather than be part of the bloodbath.

Of course, the best laid plans sometimes come undone. Obama has a problem with the Senate and that is why the sleight of hand. But he might lose this in the House. There are Democrats who will not vote for this and right now it looks like they will be shy a few votes. Pelosi might start beating people up or sending the mob in to break some knees but until then, the votes are not there.

[note]Note to Frank Kratovil, vote for this and you are gone and we will be welcoming Congressman Andy Harris to the 1st Congressional District.[/note]

Obama will do absolutely anything it takes to get this through. He will begin campaigning (did he ever stop) for this mess on Monday.

“Whatever it takes to get health care done,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said of the president’s schedule. Washington Post

And when I say he will do whatever it takes I mean legal or otherwise. He was not upset at the bribes passed around the Senate to get it through the first time and he is not above payoffs to get what he wants either:

Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he’s obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson’s brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Weekly Standard

This might just be a coincidence but I doubt it. Obama will do what it takes and he is all about Chicago style politics.

Keep an eye on Matheson because if he now votes for it then he was bribed because perception is reality.

In 2004, Kerry was for it before he was against it. Obama was against 50 plus 1 before he was for it.

Remember America, this is about control and nothing else. They need control to collapse the economy and replace it with what they want.

Let’s deny them the chance. Call your Congress critters and tell them that all the temple monkeys will be replaced if they vote for this. It is an election year, the only time they listen (or pretend to). They know we do not like it so ask them if they are willing to fall on their swords for Obama who is not up for reelection for three more years or the likes of Pelosi who is in a safe seat.

If they screw us with this we need to make them pay.

And revenge is a dish best served cold…

  1. Obama has never been anything but a front man for the socialists of the Democrat Party. His inability to speak coherently without a teleprompter should have been a dead giveaway. But too many people were entranced by the notion of electing our first non-white president to take appropriate notice.

    • Darrel says:

FRAN: “[Obama’s] inability to speak coherently without a teleprompter…”>>

      DAR
I don’t imagine Francis cares that his teleprompter claim is based upon a well debunked rightwing lie:

Fox news runs with fake obama teleprompter story

Of course he doesn’t care. After all, he doesn’t mind saying that Obama can’t speak coherently without a teleprompter even though everyone (and I do mean everyone) knows that isn’t true.

Poor Francis probably didn’t even know that his teleprompter talking point was false. This is what happens when you don’t get out much and seclude yourself to rightwing only sites that censor dissenting opinion. You end up looking like a tool when you get out in the real world.

      • Big Dog says:

No Darrel, the use of the teleprompter is not false. The story you reference might be but this was a huge joke among all the media when he first took office. now he just has them everytime.

Yes, he speaks poorly when he does not have one. He uhhs, stammers and grasps for words.

I notice that you keep putting Palin items in your quotes. Mind telling me what they have to do with the topic? Are you afraid of her so you have to attack her? It is not germaine to the topic.

    • Adam says:

It’s absolutely rich that after 8 years of Bushisms we got a president that can make a speech like few presidents in history could and what does the GOP say? Well, he can’t speak without a teleprompter. You’d think that Obama had invented the use of the teleprompter by the President and before him they all just wrote notes on their hands.

  2. Adam says:

“I realize that campaign promises are just that and I never took Obama seriously.”

Actually, Obama has kept far more promises than he’s broken. He has not kept every promise of course but you act like he breaks a promise a day or something.

“We saw how he was opposed to ending the filibuster when Republicans wanted to do it.”

And have we seen where this has changed?

“We saw how he criticized Bush for the Patriot Act…”

He signed a one year extension. He’ll get around to cleaning that mess eventually, don’t worry. The same goes for GITMO.

“…we see him doing a number of things Bush did that Obama expressed dissatisfaction with.”

A couple of course. What’s wrong with that? Do you really want Obama to not become president and to not change his campaign goals to fit the reality of being president? Yet, on the most important issues to his Campaign he has stayed true.

“…and most of the blood will be on Obama’s hands.”

Actually, the blood will be because of the poor economic conditions in the country, something Obama has done everything in his power to fix but it’s a slow uphill climb. If it were the actions of Obama or even the Democrats you’d see an uptick in support for Republicans or conservative ideology. No such thing has happened. This is anti-incumbent sentiment and it just so happens that most of the incumbents are Democrats.

“In 2004, Kerry was for it before he was against it.”

Good poo never stops being flung, huh?

“They need control to collapse the economy and replace it with what they want.”

This is nothing more than paranoid delusions. But your side is full of them since the scary black man was elected but of course it has nothing to do with his race does it?

“Watch the video and listen closely to the jive talk.”

Wait, are you sure it has nothing to do with race again?

    • Big Dog says:

Yes Adam, I am sure it has nothing to do with race. First of all, I find no man scary, black or otherwise. To be accurate you should have said scary half black man…

Nothing to do with race. You see it that way because you are accustomed to seeing things as racist. Let me educate you:

      Jive Talk:
      v.tr. Slang
      To cajole or mislead.
      adj. Slang
      Misleading; phony.

The Bee Gees had a song about jive Talkin’ and some of the lines were:

      It’s just your jive talkin
      Your telling me LIES
      Jive talkin
      you wear a disguise.

Hope this clears it up for you and that you are now more in tune. When I was growing up being jived, someone jiving you, and jive talk all dealt with being lied to, misled or less than honest. Then again, I was growing up when that song was popular, before you were born.

So quit seeing race in everything and learn to open your eyes.

Paranoid delusions? Side is full of them? Yes, Democrats are based in reality. I should listen to you because you guys have never been guilty. Have you been drafted yet? How did your grandparents make out when Bush took away their Social Security checks?

You do not clean up the mess by keeping it up (if you consider it a mess) just like you do not control deficits and fix an economy by spending more money.

Either they are deliberately collapsing the economy or they are extremely inept. You keep telling me the people are brilliant so it must be deliberate.

      • Adam says:

        “When I was growing up…”

Yes, I’m sure there were a lot of things you could say when you were growing up that you didn’t consider racist. Citing the Bee Gees isn’t much of an argument, frankly. What you forgot to cite from your source:

        2. Also called jive talk a variety of American slang spoken chiefly by Blacks, esp jazz musicians

See, I’ve seen you use the term ‘jive talk’ twice and both times it had to do with black politicians. Coincidence of course, right?

“I should listen to you because you guys have never been guilty.”

Oh yes, you once again explain how it is perfectly fine for you to be deluded…because hey, I did it too. Well then that makes it just fine, doesn’t it?

“Either they are deliberately collapsing the economy or they are extremely inept.”

I don’t see any economy collapsing actually. This is just part of your delusion I’m afraid.

  3. Adam says:

And lost in all the lies about “ramming the bill through” and the “nukular option” when you mean reconciliation and now this “50 plus one” nonsense, is the fact that health care passed the Senate with 60 votes already last year. It’s the reconciliation of the two bills that has been held up and which the Democrats are looking to explore every avenue to complete.

The GOP lies about this reform will never, ever cease will they? You can’t have an honest debate because when folks speak truthfully about reform for some reason the public responds positively and when the GOP makes the media circuit and lies and lies then support for the bill decreases. Funny how that works, right?

  4. Big Dog says:

Lost in all this is that the Senate bill passed with 60 votes and they are bypassing the regular process of merging bills and voting again. It does not matter that it passed once. There is a process and it should be followed.

But, the Democrats make it look like they are doing this because of the fact they will not get the votes they need because EVEN Democrats are defecting.

They had to work hard to get the 60 votes for cloture because Democrats did not want to vote for it. Remember, they had the 60 and all they had to do was say yes.

America saw the ugly bribes and did not like it.

I did not use the Bee Gees song to justify, only to show it was not uncommon. I fail to see how the definition you cited (which had nothing to do with my meaning) is racist.

But, Obama and Rangel are not Jazz musicians so that really did not apply.

And I used it specifically to see if you would make the racist claim again. You are prone to screaming that no matter what. I figured it would be fun luring you in with a legitimate phrase (that is not racist) and then showing you the real meaning.

Consider it the deprogramming of your college indoctrination.

I also did not say because you did it then it is OK for me to do it.

I happen to have my beliefs and am not influenced by your system of delusion. I merely point out that if I were to decide that I needed to look at things differently and that maybe I was blowing things out of proportion I would not take your advice as to what is blown out of proportion. You obviously can’t actually see the difference as demonstrated by your past.

It is like I would not take stock advice from a broker who lost it all from bad investments and was living in a cardboard box.

  5. Big Dog says:

And there were things I could say growing up that I can still say now. Jive Talk is one of them.

In fact, there is nothing that I cannot say. There are many I choose not to either because I find them distasteful or untrue but I could say all that I wanted.

    First Amendment and all.

  6. Big Dog says:

And lost in all the lies about “ramming the bill through” and the “nukular option” when you mean reconciliation and now this “50 plus one” nonsense…

Nice deflection. This “nonsense” is what Obama said he would not do. You ignore that. You deflect by claining they got 60 votes while ignoring that they need that many more than once to follow Senate procedure.

If they do not like that then they can change the Senate procedure. The Constitution allows the Senate to establish its own rules for conducting business.

Of course you do not see the problems. You only saw them when Bush was in office with a low unemployment rate. Then we had homeless overflowing and people in bread lines.

Now, we are in hopeychangey land and all is well among the Kool Aid drinkers.

Things will get worse before they get better.

  7. Adam says:

“I figured it would be fun luring you in with a legitimate phrase (that is not racist) and then showing you the real meaning.”

Of course it was all part of your master plan to say something about a black person that can be construed as racist when really inside you meant another definition of jive-talk that to you hasn’t been used to put black people down for the last few decades. You’re the puppet master.

    “Nice deflection.”

It’s not a deflection to remind you that there will be no bill “rammed through.” There will simply be amendments to a bill that has already passed with 60 votes. But by all means continue to spread misconceptions on this subject. First amendment and all.

    • Big Dog says:

Yes Adam. The process is supposed to work like this.

House passes a bill and Senate passes a bill. Then they work out the bills so that they have identical bills. Then it goes back to each chamber to be voted on AGAIN and it would require the normal number of votes and anyone who wanted could filibuster.

It is disingenuous for you to say it passed once so it is OK. That is not how it works.

I have heard variations of jive and jive talking for years. I have not heard it as a disparaging remark toward blacks. Only true racists see it that way.

      • Adam says:

“I have not heard it as a disparaging remark toward blacks. Only true racists see it that way.”

Do your home work then. Educate yourself.

“It is disingenuous for you to say it passed once so it is OK. That is not how it works.”

No, it is disingenuous for you to act like the Democrats are doing something unprecedented and illegal. They aren’t and you know it.

  8. Darrel says:

Hey, know what the “R” in COBRA stands for?

    “Reconciliation.”

“Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985”

    Signed by St. Reagan.

Healthcare has already passed in each house. Now it’s time for reconciliation. Something that has been 23 times in the last 30 years. Two thirds of the time, BY REPUBLICANS.

So this is just more hypocrisy and sour grapes nonsense from the republicans. Oh… wah….

“Since 1980, 17 of 23 reconciliation bills have been signed into law by Republican presidents…. Since 1980, reconciliation has been used nine times when Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate, six times when Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate,…” –wiki

    • Big Dog says:

Reconciliation has been used for budget items and passed with Democrats and Republicans.

Notice that the B in COBRA stands for BUDGET.

Nothing in the HC bill stands for BUDGET.

That is why reconciliation is supposed to be used for BUDGET items and taxes where the need might outweigh the process.

Robert Byrd said it would not be proper to use it in this instance. Though I bet he will vote for it.
