Obama Cuts Off Constituents

The good news for taxpayers is that Barack Obama signed into law on Thursday legislation that is supposed to prevent about 50 billion dollars from going to people who are not supposed to get it. The dead, those in jail and fugitives have been paid money they are not supposed to get.

President Barack Obama on Thursday signed legislation intended to slash by $50 billion the taxpayer money improperly paid to dead people, fugitives and those in jail who shouldn’t be getting benefits. Yahoo News

The bad news is that this will only reduce by about half the number of such payments.

This is what happens when government is involved. Programs are put into place and they grow because government never shrinks. As they grow, they become more difficult to manage and oversight (if any existed to begin with) is lost in the massive bureaucracy. People who have died or are incarcerated continue to get paid because no one is able to decipher what is going on.

This happens in all government programs and will happen in the new health care takeover.

Interestingly, this kind of waste is generally shrugged off but let a contractor (like Halliburton) get paid to much and all hell breaks loose. I fully agree with holding contractors accountable but how can they be held to standards that the government cannot achieve?

This is one of the problems with the financial takeover bill that has been disguised as a reform bill. The very people who spend too much and waste our money have put in place a law telling private businesses how to do things, as if the government knows. To top it off, the two biggest criminals in Congress (with regard to financial items) wrote the bill. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are directly responsible for the economic collapse because of their legislation and support of companies involved in the mess (hard to bite the hand that is feeding you).

So we reward these morons by letting them write the legislation to supposedly correct the mess they caused.

Only in our government can such stupidity take place.

Another bad news item for Democrats is that Obama has cut off about 50 billion dollars from their constituents.

There are a number of dead people in Chicago now considering staying home on election day…

Never surrender, never submit.

I support cutting down the fraud, waste and abuse on both kinds but for some reason I find it much easier to shrug off waste in a social program that is helping folks than I do waste in a government contract that lines the pockets of war profiteers. But that’s just me.

“This is one of the problems with the financial takeover bill that has been disguised as a reform bill.”

Well, let me just once again state my disappointment in this administration to get done what it said it would get done. It couldn’t get a stimulus. It couldn’t pass health care. It couldn’t pass financial reform. It couldn’t extend unemployment benefits. I mean, what HAS this administration accomplished? Obama is a miserable failure.

Adam, most of the “social programs” do not really help very many, but they DO enrich the people at the top, and that’s not right.
I support cutting waste and fraud, but to be really serious about that, you have to be willing to cut out ENTIRE departments, like the Dept. of Education, the EPA, and several others that actually just get in the way of the work that needs doing.

This “Financial Reform” bill is a joke- it does not address the core issues- the FMs-(Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) that were the single most important institutions responsible for the housing bubble and bust that led to the financial meltdown.
If these institutions had not GUARANTEED the whacko progressive mortgages (No Job??? NO PROBLEM!!!!), then there would have been much less damage done-
THERE ARE RULES IN PLACE FOR A REASON- I would love to tattoo THAT backwards on Bwaney Fwank’s forehead, so he could read it every morning- that man is such a fool I cannot see how he has the brainpower to breathe unaided.

You equate Obama getting what he wants with success. The reality is all the programs will add to the debt, will take freedoms away and will make government even bigger. He succeeded in getting what he wanted which will bring America failure. Thus, he is a failure.

As for waste in social programs being something you overlook, says a lot about you and your disregard for the money people worked hard to earn.

“He succeeded in getting what he wanted which will bring America failure. Thus, he is a failure.”

Yes, and those of us who support Obama and the Democrats’ progressive policies can’t wait for the GOP to run things again so we can once again see what real success looks like. Just like in the 2000’s. Good times. Can’t wait…

“As for waste in social programs being something you overlook, says a lot about you and your disregard for the money people worked hard to earn.”

Let me speak only for the large chunk of money I too pay in taxes when I say that I’d rather my money go to waste in social programs than war contracts but as I said already I’d rather there be no waste on either.

Hey- at least in the Republicans’ time, unemployment was 5.4%- a figure that Hussein can only have wet dreams about-
Add to that that if the Dems, when they took conttrol of the House and Senate, had done something about Fannie and Freddie, we would not be in this situation.
Ditto if the anointed one had ACTUALLY concentrated on jobs for the private sector, instead of ramming through the money-wasting,do nothing, deficit QUADRUPLING stimulus, TARP, cash for clunkers, and every other idiotic, money wasting, minion-rewarding, liberty- crushing bill this moron could think of.
This is what happens when you have in power people with the brains of a child and absolutely NO EXPERIENCE in the real world.

Adam, until the Democrats took over Congress in 2006 things were going pretty good. Unemployment down, earnings up, stock market good. Then Dems won and things went south.

So when you say something about running well when Republicans are in charge maybe you will remember that Democrats were in charge when it went bad.

As for your take on the taxes you pay, large chunk being a relative term, it is telling that you would rather your taxes be wasted on an unconstitutional thing like a social program than on a Constitutional item like war.

If people like you had their way we would be speaking German or Japanese and be servants of them. As for the way money is spent, I prefer to have no waste and most social programs are waste.

        • Adam says:

“Then Dems won and things went south.”

Sorry. No matter how many times you say it that is still a logical fallacy. We know a handful of actions and events that probably contributed to things going South and it had nothing to do with the time period between January 2007 when the Democrats took over Congress and December 2007 when the recession started.

If the GOP had maintained a majority the housing bubble would still have popped and the house of cards still would have tumbled. Who would you blame then for things going South? Oh yeah, Democrats still. Do I even need to ask?

          • Big Dog says:

Of course it had nothing to do with when Dems were in charge because you would never point fingers at them. It was Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and a number of other DEMOCRATS who blocked reform on Fannie and Fredie, the major culprits in the recession. I know the Dems are rewriting history as to what caused it but those were the major players.

It had nothing to do with tax cuts and the housing bubble was created by DEMOCRAT policies that forced banks to make loans to people who could not afford them. Bush, and to his credit McCain, warned over a dozen times that the FMs were heading for disaster. Frank said no, Dodd no, Maxine Waters NO. They were the triggers that started it and tey were responsible for it when it happened.

Funny though. If I say Clinton was responsible for 9/11 you say it happened on Bush’s watch even though the events that caused it came under Clinton. But when the recession takes place under Democrats you say they had nothing to do with it because it was events under Republicans…

They are all responsible but the collapse happened while Democrats were in charge. The unemployment rate went up, the economy went down and the housing bubble burst under the Dems. And it was obstructive Dems like Frank who were more interested in protecting their income (and in his case his male lover at Fannie) than looking out for America. Democrats were the triggering event.
            Boom….

  4. Blake says:

In order to say that Republicans were responsible for the housing bubble, you would have to ignore reality- Bush, McCain and other REPUBLICANS sounded off repeatedly about the inherent instability of the FMs, and wanted MORE regulations, yey Barney Frank and the Dems in both the Banking committee and the Finance Committee beat back ANY attempts to reform these rules, which were loosened UNDER CLINTON’S watch-
Hell, even Clinton can be found on youtube saying that it it the fault of the Dems on the committees that the instability of the FMs grew worse.
Add to that the rape of these quasi- governmental institutions by one of Obama’s circle-jerk buddies, Franklin Raines who looted These FMs of 65 MILLION dollars before he left, (and he still hasn’t been prosecuted for this naked embezzlement- noone at justice cares, or they have been told NOT to look into this)- If you can refute these fact, feel free, but it is what it is-
