Obama Breaks Another Of His Pledges

Barack Obama is finding that it is one thing to campaign on big ideas and it is easy to promise to do things differently but quite another thing to put those ideas into practice once one gets in office. He made a number of pledges during his campaign and he even tried to fulfill some of them once he got into office but he has been forced to change his position on a number of them because the view is different when one is looking out than it is when one is looking in.

The latest change (you can believe in) is the Obama stance on contact with lobbyists by people in his administration. In March, Obama said that his people could not have contact with lobbyists except under certain conditions. Now the restriction has been lifted or, shall we say, eased.

The lobbyists were having fits because they wanted access. I imagine that it is hard to find anyone in DC, inside or outside the government, who has not been a lobbyist (or is married to one). These people were lined up trying to help direct stimulus money and now they have more direct access in order to help decide where the money we do not have is spent. I would not be surprised if someone reported that this was done in exchange for political donations. I am not saying it happened that way, only that it would not surprise me.

Obama should have taken a little time when he first arrived to see how things run. He should have reviewed the things he wanted to change and ensured that the change was possible and that whatever was changed would not, for some reason, be changed back. Instead, Obama rushed in confident that he was doing the right thing and that he did not need to see how things worked because he knows it all.

His arrogance is beginning to be his undoing.

Of course this change was released on the weekend when fewer people are paying attention. Obama does not like to have his flip flops receive widespread attention because it shows that he cannot keep his word, does not know what he is doing, and that he is no different than most other politicians (despite his claims to the contrary).

Stay tuned because I bet we will see him change his mind on many more of his plans to reinvent America.

I somehow don’t think this is what people had in mind when Obama said if America elected him he would bring change to DC.

How can he be change we can believe in when he continually shows us that we can’t believe him in the first place?

Funny thing how this works. George Bush would have been called a liar…

Instead of taking time when he was first elected Resident, he should have stayed a Senator for awhile, instead of quitting- perhaps then he might have had the time to at least find out how government really works.

Lobbyists are not always a bad thing, unless you are a Liberal trying to get elected- then they are positively Satanic. Hypocrisy is always alive and well in Liberal elite circles.

If one were going to make the claim that Obama broke “Another Of His Pledges,” it would be useful (some might say necessary) to actually show:

    a) the pledge you are supposedly talking about and

    b) how, specifically, he broke it.

But you completely forgot to include these most important ingredients.

There was a pledge that there would be no lobbyists in his administration. He broke that one the first day, practically, when he enlisted Rhomboid Emmanuel’s brother in his administration. He was and is a paid lobbyist.
That is but the tip of the lobbying iceberg. He has people who are lobbyists, people who are married to lobbyists, and so on.

  4. Big Dog says:

Darrel, if you read the article you would see that in March he stated that there would be a number of restrictions on lobbyists influencing the stimulus money.

    Now he has removed that.

His campaign pledge was that lobbyists would not have a say like they do now (during the campaign).

If one did not have his head so far up the Obama butt one could see that the pledge about lobbyists not working in the administration and the rules to limit their participation have been loosened.

He broke the pledge regarding lobbyists. You know it and you can read.

    • Darrel says:

You are still being vague and not specific. Of course an executive has the right to adjust, provide wavers and “loosen” (as you say) policies to best serve the function of their office, and goals, over time. That is to be expected. Rather than trying to spin this to bash Obama you could instead acknowledge (as many have, even on your side) that he has set and held the bar higher than Bush and previous presidents. And action which is, commendable.

      • Blake says:

In his words he likes to think he holds the bar higher, but in deeds, he throws the bar away- he has lied about lobbyists- (you say loosened the regs, but that is sophistry)- he has lied about transparency, about reading the bills, about virtually every damn thing he has spoken of.
How do you NOT call him a liar? If it had been Bush, they would have a nice suitcoat with wrap- around arms for you, you would be yelling so much.

  5. Big Dog says:

There you go again, making excuses. How did Bush have the bar too low if Obama is doing many of the things Bush did (and for which he bashed Bush)? The reality is, Obama thought he could do things one way and he tried and then found out he could not.

But you make excuses for him and his failure. He might have set bars high but he certainly is not doing anything commendable.

Remember, this is the guy who said that all the bills would be in the open and on the web for 5 days. The guy who criticized Bush for ramming legislation through without anyone reading it. He is doing all of that and you think it is great.

Face it Darrel, you have a crush on Obama and he can do no wrong in your eyes. You love your Socialist leader.

    • Darrel says:

All you have is vague unreferenced insults. There are lots of examples of how he has set the bar higher. See this bloomberg article.

      These actions are commendable.

I will be happy to agree he has done something wrong as soon as you demonstrate he has. So far, I hear lots of screeching and bleating but I don’t see anyone laying a glove on the guy.

      • Blake says:

ace it, D- you have a love affair with the guy, but he is a liar.
Talk is cheap, and Barama is cheap and tawdry, like a speedo on a fat man, he doesn’t get the job done, and looks bad failing to do the job.

  6. Big Dog says:

    Quoting Maher?

There are plenty of instances that have been pointed out. You happen to believe that the bar was set high. If he set it high he failed to achieve.

Something wrong? Weighing in on the Gates issue would be one. Vowing no lobbyists and then letting them in would be another.

Setting a goal is one thing. being able to reach it is another.

Abandoning the goals for political expediency is quite another.
