Now The Left Has Something To Hate

Well it appears that Harriet Miers, Bush’s nominee to the Supreme Court, is a born again Christian. This is from Drudge:

By 1979, Harriet Miers, then in her mid-30s, had accomplished what some people take a lifetime to achieve. She was a partner at Locke Purnell Boren Laney & Neely, one of the most prestigious law firms in the South.

But she still felt something was missing in her life.

The NEW YORK TIMES is set to splash the “something” on Page Ones on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

It was after a series of long discussions with Nathan Hecht, a junior colleague and sweetheart, that led her to a decision that many of the people around her say changed Miers life.

“She decided that she wanted faith to be a bigger part of her life,” Hecht said. “One evening she called me to her office and said she was ready to make a commitment,” to accept Jesus Christ as her savior and be born again, Hecht said. Miers became an evangelical Christian and began identifying more with the Republican Party than with the Democrats who had long held sway over Texas politics.

If there is something the Democrats can not stand it is people who want faith to be a bigger part of their lives. I can hear them now chewing their nails as they worry about their precious Roe v Wade being overturned by a religious zealot picked by that Christian Crusader himself, George W Bush.

I think they should be careful when they question her. They should be extra careful not to label her or try to portray her religious beliefs as a negative. How can they? After all, Hillary Clinton has been an evangelical Christian all her life. At least that is what she is saying now that she has feigned toward the center.

    While, on a strictly personal level, I am quite glad about this, it does not change my thoughts on her nomination one whit, nor should it anyone else’s. This was a nomination born out of a distracted desire to avoid a rancorous, uphill confirmation hearing. When you add to that the fact that she is unqualified for the position…

    Blah, blah, blah.

    Here’s a question for you. If about 80% of the United States population is Christian, did it ever occur to you that a large number of Democrats are also Christian?

    Sorry to break it to you, Big Dog, but not all Democrats hate religion or evangelicalism in general, or specifically people who place large values on faith. You can keep on parroting that lie though if you like.

    With these thoughts of yours, you fit right in with Mark Noonan who thinks the left was born of a rejection of Judeo-Christian values. It’s nonsense, all three of us know it.

    But what about what people are saying is the key difference between the red states and the blue states, the values thing, religion. So many Americans cleave to a religious faith, and the Democratic Party is perceived to be uninterested in faith except to the degree that they are mildly hostile (“Take down that Merry Christmas sign!”) or believe religion is a “language” they must learn to “speak effectively.” Isn’t that an essential problem for the Democrats?

    Yes. And she knows it. And she is about to get very spiritual. She knows it’s not enough to run around quoting scripture on the stump, as John Kerry did. On the other hand she cannot speak as Bush did of Christ as the center of her life because that would not be credible: She has never spoken that way and strikes no one as born again.

    But she can go about it in her own way. She will begin giving interviews in which she speaks of the importance of the teachings of Christ in her thinking about policy issues. She will also begin to emphasize as never before her Methodist youth, and her hometown pastor’s emphasis on public service. Something tells me a big black Bible is being put on a coffee table in her office even as I type. And there will also suddenly be more media availabilities after Sunday church service.

    Always remember what Bill Clinton did after he lost re-election to the governorship in 1980. He joined the choir in the only local church whose services were broadcast on television throughout Arkansas every Sunday morning. You could turn in every Sunday and see him in his robe, with his music book, singing spirituals Peggy Noonan

    It is not just I who believes that many on the left feign their beliefs especially when it is convenient for them. No, not all on the left are this way but the fact is liberals are much more lenient in this regard and though they say they believe they then do things in opposition to the teachings of their professed religion.

    The fact is our founding fathers were spiritual and their beliefs played a large part of their building this nation. The left in this country tries to take that away or limit the rights of the 80% of whom you speak.

    Saying you are a Christian and acting like a Christian are two entirely different things. How many of this 80% who are true believers think we should remove religion from every aspect of life? Find that number and you will have the liberal base.

    Hillary Clinton hardly ever speaks about religion unless she can curry political favor by doing so. The Clintons are good at putting on a show but they do not practice what they claim to espouse.
