No One Wants To Listen To Liberals

Air Amerika, the liberal radio station launched to counter conservative talk has had financial troubles since it started. Liberals have trouble attracting an audience to listen to they pap the spew. The station has finally gone belly up:

Air America Radio, a radio network that was launched in 2004 as a liberal alternative to Rush Limbaugh and other conservative commentators, on Thursday shut down abruptly due to financial woes.

The network once boasted hosts such as Al Franken and Rachel Maddow, but struggled from the outset, including multiple management shake-ups, a bankruptcy in 2006 and sale for $4.25 million the following year.

Air America ceased airing new programs Thursday afternoon and said it will soon file to be liquidated under Chapter 7 bankruptcy. It began broadcasting reruns of programs and would end those as well Monday night. Yahoo News

Perhaps the liberals ran the station like they run government, figuring the money will come from somewhere.

They learned a hard lesson and that is if no one wants your product you will go out of business.

Once again capitalism ends up with a correct decision.

Unless, of course, the government decides they are too big to fail and bails them out.

The [Washington] Times has lost money since its inception,….

Fox News lost money for years. Hell, less than a year ago:

News Corp. Suffers Staggering $6.4 Billion Loss

The moral of this story? Have a billionaire with deep pockets carry you through the tough times.

“I’ve been in the radio ratings business for many years: the problem is that the Liberal demographic simply does not sit around listening to AM radio like all those fat, stupid, ignorant, toothless, xenophobic, homophobic, religiously-insane, Republican conservative tards. If you’re full of hate and fear and ignorance and too lazy to read and think – well then AM radio is the perfet medium for you.” –BB

    And this raises the question:

“Why does cogent, intelligent, informed, rational, fact-based commentary struggle to find a foothold in the arena of ideas, yet coarse, unhinged, venomous, reactionary, myopic, hate-filled vitriol not only go largely unchallenged, but is embraced by gullible, ignorant, lemming-like, brain-dead listeners…?” –BID

I guess Soros didn’t have big enough pockets, or else even he was tired of those idiots.
Those two quotes just confirm the elitist mentality among the “progressives”- and I can tell you that one of the most intelligent men I ever knew just had a fifth grade education, but could solve problems that had college- educated men stumped- (apparently that isn’t ALL that hard).

  2. Big Dog says:

Of course Air Amerika has had its backers and it failed to make money which the places you mention eventually did. All newspapers except the WSJ have seen a decrease in readers so the comparison is nonsense. All of them are in trouble because of the medium used.

The description of people who listen to radio and what kinds of programs are based on someone’s biased opinion and we could get an exact opposite from others. It is, again, a nonsense thing to post.

  3. Adam says:

It is common for right wingers to cite the struggles of Air America as evidence nobody wants to listen to liberals. This is a faulty argument at best. Air America is simply an example of a poorly run business and has very little to do with content.

If it were simply that people don’t want to listen to liberals then this same host of people wouldn’t be doing as well as they’re doing on Sirius and other venues that are run better and have deeper pockets.

Also consider MSNBC which in the last 3 years has grown it’s liberal programming considerably and taken over CNN’s coveted #2 spot.

No, the suggestion that Air America failed because of liberalism is a complete myth.

    • Big Dog says:

MSNBC still falls well below all of the shows on FOX.

The audience is not there but you did make a good point, liberals suck at business.

      • Adam says:

It’s a simple minded argument to link the failure or success of a particular business to left right politics.

Let’s be honest here. If you are to suggest Air America failed because of liberalism then would that imply Fox’s success is because of conservatism? Hardly. Shep Smith is hardly a far righty like Hannity but he does great on Fox, better than any show on MSNBC or CNN. Glenn Beck is a certifiable right wing nut job and he wasn’t skyrocketing to the top with CNN. It’s all about the business model.

Air America had a poor one. That is why they’re gone. Fox has a great one, that is why they are the most successful. The same goes for MSNBC which is growing along with Fox while CNN is shrinking.

To say MSNBC doesn’t have an audience because Fox dominates the ratings is like suggesting no one is left handed since 90% of people are right handed. MSNBC has a very good audience and you’ll see this audience keep growing despite you pretending there is no audience for liberal content in America.

        • Big Dog says:

So you are admitting FOX is fair and balanced. I knew you would come around.

No one watches CNN because it is like MSNBC, the media wing of the Democrat Party.

Air Amerika failed because the DNC was done with them and they had no more use. They failed because there is not a market for what they sell.

        • Adam says:

Any person who believes Fox is fair and balanced needs to go see a doctor. There may be some kind of pills to treat that sort of delusion but I’m no professional…

        • Adam says:

If CNN or MSNBC is the media wing of the Democratic Party then Fox must really be special. Fox stopped even trying to seem fair long ago.

        • Blake says:

You say MSNBC is GROWING? Well, you do well with the analogy of left- handedness, and MSNBC might have 10%- but to say they are growing is a stretch.
Air Amerika had a poor model, because the vitriol they spewed was ridiculous, and had no basis in reality.
Glenn Beck at least has a truthful, if overhyped show- I have yet to hear of ANY refutations of his facts on the substance of his arguments- perhaps he might be wrong in the year of a quote, but minor things like that pale before the insanity that is Olberdouche and his minions.

        • Adam says:

“Air Amerika had a poor model, because the vitriol they spewed was ridiculous, and had no basis in reality.”

In case you missed it, the biggest names from Air America have gone on to new shows for better companies and have thrived. It wasn’t the Air America content, it was the business behind it. You could put Rush Limbaugh on Air America and the business would probably still have failed. Deep pocketed liberals couldn’t overcome the deep rooted problems in the Air America business structure.

  4. Big Dog says:

If Rush were on Air Amerika he would run it and make money.

He knows how to run a business.

And it depends on what you call success.
