Murtha’s Nephew Gets Awarded No-Bid Contract

I have read time and again the liberal meme about no-bid contracts and how the evil Republicans handed them out as favors to their buddies. The name Halliburton is screamed every time the liberals want to make a point about no-bid contracts. Halliburton, the libs believe, get no-bid contracts because Dick Cheney was once employed there and somehow he profits from those contracts.

They usually ignore the fact that Halliburton is the only company that is capable of doing what they are contracted to do. Sure, they have been involved in overcharging but those things get investigated.

I want to know if my liberal friends (you know who you are) will jump in here and scream about the no-bid contract that a company named Murtech received. I want to know if they will stop by here and discuss how this company, that is headed by Jack Murtha’s nephew, received a no-bid contract. It is obvious that Murtha ensured that this was awarded to family. Given Murtha’s history of corruption there can be no doubt. The fact that there is no evidence that the business even does anything makes it all the more suspicious.

The headquarters of Murtech, in a low-slung, bland building in a Glen Burnie business park, has its blinds drawn tight and few signs of life. On several days of visits, a handful of cars sit in the parking lot, and no trucks arrive at the 10 loading bays at the back of the building.

Yet last year, Murtech received $4 million in Pentagon work, all of it without competition, for a variety of warehousing and engineering services. With its long corridor of sparsely occupied offices and an unmanned reception area, Murtech’s most striking feature is its owner — Robert C. Murtha Jr., 49. He is the nephew of Rep. John P. Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department’s spending as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee. [emphasis mine] Washington Post

Well, well. It seems that some of them there Democrats are involved in the no-bid contract game and it is obvious that this is a payment to a family member. When people mention Cheney and Halliburton they cannot be persuaded that Cheney does not profit and he does not have any influence in the contracting process (Bill Clinton’s administration awarded a no bid to Halliburton). So let’s hear what they have to say about this obvious crime.

Where are you liberals? Where is your voice proclaiming the culture of corruption.

Who will be the first liberal to defend Murtha.

Come on, I am waiting.

Funny how the libs don’t seem to have a problem with this, isn’t it? These people are frauds, pure and simple!

“These people” I love how bad your argument is. When you can’t back something up with facts, just make a broad generalization about a group that makes them look bad. Do you really think that conservatives are the only ones with problems with this? Yes “all liberals” are in exact agreement, and all liberals agreed that appropriating funds/contracts is okay as long as a Democrat does it. We like Democratic misconduct, but not Republican. Turns out we had a meeting, and this passed, 220million to zero.

Your comment is just what I was saying this morning. I called all the Democrats in congress and said “I don’t have a problem with you giving contracts to your friends, because I am a liberal, a fraud and I don’t think for myself, I just know that Republicans are evil so please find ways to give money and contracts to your friends”

Yes. That is what I was saying. Because I am a liberal, and a fraud, and I like people giving their friends favors with my money.

I guess the difference is that when Democrats see the Republicans do it they raise hell but when they see their own do it they make excuses or ignore it.

I think you are the case in point.

Of course there is corruption- this is a proud Democratic tradition, from the Kennedy bootlegging days, to the entire cemetery in precinct 13 of Duval County in Texas, where an entire cemetery rose up out of their graves, to give LBJ the Texas Senate seat in 1948, by a mere 29 votes.
The fact is that Jackie Murtha has been a serial abuser of the people’s tax money for awhile now- perhaps people in his district will wake up.

Where are the liberals? Worrying about something bigger. $4 mil doesn’t even register anymore. Its such a small amount compared to the TRILLION dollar number that is used when discussing costs of the IRaq war. Likewise with the $700 billion bailout.

When Murtha gets as corrupt at KBR/Haliburton then we can get our outrage up. Until then, we are busy with other way more important things.

P.S. Its still wrong, what he did.
