Yes, Bunny- there is plenty of blame to go around, but let's begin with Nagin- he is to blame for the initial response- he told Blanco everything was OK- he had NO plan to evacuate, but I see he managed to get HIS butt out. Blanco had to ASK the feds to come in to her state, the feds couldn't do this on their own (ever hear of the Posse Comitatus Act), so despite Bush asking not once, but TWICE if she needed the feds, SHE said that Louisiana had things under control. Yes, FEMA could have done things better- I went through Hurricane Ike, and had the Eyewall go literally over my house, and FEMA could have done better in that one also, but to attempt to absolve or excuse Nagin is dishonest at best. Some people rise to a challenge- he sank.
Now--- Let's talk about corruption in Louisiana for a minute, because while the feds supplied the money to upkeep the levees around NOLA, it was the state people who just took the money and did nothing to maintain them. Is THAT in your little book?
Your problem is that you are leaning so far left that you actually face your own butt head- on.

Once again Bunny your ignorance is obvious. First of all I read quite a bit. I have not read that book but I have read a number of accounts from the official reports. I have read some of the Coast Guard reports and have spoken with some of the guys who were there running things.

But my reading is not in question, yours is. If you had looked at some of my past posts you would have seen that I placed the blame on many agencies and people from Nagin up to the White House. Contrary to what Democrats did, blame Bush for it all, I put blame on a number of things. I don't recall ever blaming Clinton.

I also tried to set the record straight on FEMA and how it works. I don't know how often you have worked with them but I have worked with them on a large number of things so I have an idea how they work. They had issues but they did arrive in the prescribed time and stuff began coming in. They set up command and tried to ensure lives were saved, first order of business.

I know you like to insult people and belittle them and I won't dignify your comment about 600 pages with a response. However, I will say that I probably have more hours in emergency response, emergency operations, command operations in an emergency and the Incident Command System.

I also bet I have more experience planning responses to disasters similar in magnitude of Katrina.

As a matter of fact, I bet I have more time working emergency operations this year than you do in your lifetime.

So before you denigrate a person's experience perhaps you should know what you are talking about.

In other words, I do know what I am talking about.

And I would like you to show me where I was incorrect about Nagin. He did say that this was a major disaster and they needed to send Greyhound buses (the 500 school buses were not good enough) and he blamed Bush.

I made no other assertions.

Perhaps it is you who should learn to read.

Until you have the experience in emergency operations then maybe you need to shut up.

And while we are on it, don't come to my house and tell me to keep my mouth shut. And I told you before about the insulting name changes. I tolerated your stupidity in the past but now I am telling you, can the insults or don't come back.

Got it?

You are a guest, Have the manners of one, if you know what manners are.

By now most folks realize that there is plenty of blame to go around for the bungled response to Katrina. Getting the facts straight about this tragedy requires a significant amount of research. And it is obvious that the author of this piece (of garbage) has done very little. Dog’s revisionist account of the events places blame only on Nagin, Blanco, and (as always) Bill Clinton. Of course, it’s all the Democrats fault. The truth is that Nagin, Blanco, Bush and Brown are all to blame. But the real culprit here is Michael Chertoff. (You’ll never hear this from Dog Ape).

Dog- take a little time and research the subject. I don’t know how much reading you do (I’m guessing very little), but a good place to start would be with Douglas Brinkley’s book The Great Deluge. It’s a thorough account (600+ pages), so maybe you and your little lackey Flake the ACORN expert can go halves. I have faith in you two- you can probably knock it out by Christmas. Until then, please keep your mouth shut about Katrina. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

One thing you’ll probably be glad to hear is that the U.S. Coast Guard deserves much more credit than they have gotten for their part in the response. They stepped up big time.
