Live From DC, It’s Al Franken

Weird Al Franken, the “what were they thinking” Senator from Minnesota was on the floor to discuss the current debt ceiling debate and he had a few charts that were rather disturbing. He borrowed the first chart from the set Obama placed on the southern border. The chart read; Welcome Terrorists. Then he went on to explain that members of the GOP were briefed about what would happen if the debt ceiling was not raised. He showed how much money there was and where it would go and what would not be paid.

Franken listed the following as being paid (all numbers in billions); Service debt-29.0, Social Security-49.2, Medicare/Medicaid-50.0, Defense Vendors-31.7, and Unemployment 12.8.

The next chart shows what would not be paid and it includes Military pay and Veteran’s benefits for a combined 5.8 billion dollars. There are other agencies listed as well including the Department of justice at 1.4 billion dollars.

Franken is trying to scare people into believing that we will invite terrorists in because the military and the DOJ will not be funded. What he is actually pointing out is that Franken (and by extension, his Democrat buddies) would rather pay unemployment benefits to people who are not producing anything (regardless of why they are out of work) and not pay the active military and veterans. He would also rather pay the unemployed than pay the Department of Justice.

So tell me, under this scheme, who is actually inviting the terrorists into the country.

The idea that those who are sitting at home doing nothing would be paid while the men and women who defend this country would not makes my skin boil and the fact that Franken has prioritized it this way is enough to earn him a well deserved butt kicking. They should take him and anyone who tries to implement something like this out back of the Capitol and hang them for treason. I am sure we can make the case they are giving material aid and comfort to our enemies. Welcoming terrorists is an act of treason and if not raising the debt ceiling would invite terrorists then it is Franken and his ilk who would be sending the invitations.

I don’t even think the vendors should be on the list. They get paid when the issue is settled. If they want they can charge interest for carrying the debt load. Or perhaps it would be a good time to review our contracts and eliminate those that are not actually needed.

No matter what, the military should not go without pay. How dare this half baked moron even suggest that the unemployed should keep getting unemployment checks while our brave men and women go without.

This is a scare tactic and it shows that Democrats are either not serious about the issue, don’t understand the issue or actually hate the military.

I bet it is all three.

I wonder what would happen if all those men and women showed up with their weaponry and demanded their paychecks.

I also wonder if Franken includes members of Congress in the federal employees who do not get paid. No member of Congress should ever get paid before a member of the military.

And neither should the unemployed (and if we are lucky most of Congress will be unemployed in 2012).

But if Franken and his colleagues insist on this scheme then we can take the 15 million or so people drawing unemployment and ship them to the borders to keep the terrorists out. We can also send half a million of them to the Middle East and bring our troops home.

Al Franken is an absolute moron who couldn’t pour urine out of a boot if the directions were written on the bottom.

Cave Canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

Al Franken is a moron, as are the people who elected him. Actually he wasn’t elected; unlike GWB, Franken actually did steal the election.
As for making the case liberal are giving material aid and comfort to our enemies would result in a hanging, we know all too well there in no depth a liberal can sink that will result in justice being done onto him.
As far back as Jane Fond, it just never happens. Americans die, get tortured and have to go to war endlessly because of these moron’s perfidy, but prosecute them? And win? And have the sentence carried out?

You ARE dreaming. Easier to prosecute Murdock for something one of his 30,000 employees said (anti-liberal hate talk, oh! The BAD Murdock!)than to get Franken to shut up and sit-the-hell-down!

  2. CoolCat says:

Hysterical ending: “Al Franken is an absolute moron who couldn’t pour urine out of a boot if the directions were written on the bottom.”

Scary that his ‘logic’ (I use the word loosely) is quintessential Liberal.

You do realize Franken was citing a source list and not giving his own opinion that we should pay unemployment before the military, right? In fact Franken is arguing for the debt ceiling increase so we don’t have to decide. We can’t pay them all.

I know Franken gets under your skin because your side prefers clowns in office as opposed to comedians, but come on here. Talk about shooting the messenger.

If you want to blame anyone blame the GOP you voted for and the Tea Party you love and adore. Their actions are why we could have to decide who gets paid and who doesn’t in a few weeks.

This has nothing to do with Franken or any Democrat unless of course you think the job of the Democratic party is always just to rubber stamp the GOP. I mean, the GOP has a 1/3rd majority in this process. Why are the Democrats just obstructing them?

I do realize that it came from a report. I believe I addressed that in the post. However, Franken never refuted it or said that we would pay the military first. And I am absolutely positive that the report did not have Welcome Terrorists in it.

I do not like Franken because he is a bully. Your claim that I don’t like him as a comedian is an insult to real comedians because this idiot has NEVER been funny. He is a hot head who attacks people and threatens them with violence. I do wish though that he would try that with me.

  4. Adam says:

And in case you wonder, you can watch the video at about the 2:03 mark to see Franken speaking. I know facts get in the way of your ability to rant and rave and be outraged over a Democrat, but maybe just once you can pause for a moment and listen to what Franken says first.

Stewie Smalley has never, never uttered a serious word in his life. He is a poster child for retro-active abortion.
Only a liberal would listen to him. He is worse than a clock- at least a broken clock is right twice a day- his record for the truth is rather less stellar.

    • Big Dog says:

Facts get in my way? Obama has spent 4 trillion dollars and now wants more because of his out of control spending. He wants the money without cutting the budget and he wants to play with illusion to make it look like cuts. Cut 900 billion over 10 years for one trillion now. Moronic. How about we give him one trillion over 10 years and cut the budget now. We can cut enough to balance the budget. We can revise the tax code to make it simpler and to bring in more money. Of course, if they actually focused like a laser on jobs and we got people back to work we would have tax revenue.

Has the concept escaped you that the debt is unsustainable and that this is precisely what needs to be done. The debt ceiling is what everyone is concentrating on instead of the debt. http://www.wtfnoway.com/ A visualization of the US debt

    • Adam says:

“Has the concept escaped you that the debt is unsustainable and that this is precisely what needs to be done.”

Has the concept escaped you that if our credit rating is downgraded and we default that we’ll pay more in interest on our debt and we’ll enter a second recession which will further drive up unemployment and lower federal revenue and therefore explode the debt even more? Is that what you want? Is that what you call fiscal responsibility?

      • Blake says:

You are not right, UNLESS that traitor in the WH can’t prioritize the bills, and that would not surprise me-

      • Big Dog says:

News flash Adam, the bond rating is going to go down with any deal that does not cut 4 trillion as a minimum. This is what the agencies have said. now you have Obama trying to get the rating agencies to endorse the Harry Reid plan, a plan that will not prevent our bond rating from going down.

The bottom line is that our bond rating should have gone down long ago and now we are paying for out of control spending. The problem we have is a spending one. And if you all are so worried about jobs why do you keep doing things that stifles job creation in the private sector?

  6. Adam says:

“However, Franken never refuted it or said that we would pay the military first.”

Franken stated a fact, not an opinion. No where in his speech does he suggest that is a good idea or that he wants it to happen that way. On the contrary he wants to raise the debt ceiling so we do not have to decide. Once again, you didn’t want to know the facts you just wanted to be outraged and smear a Democrat.

“Obama has spent 4 trillion dollars and now wants more because of his out of control spending.”

No, he has not spent 4 trillion. Show me a source to back that up or stop lying about it.

“Of course, if they actually focused like a laser on jobs and we got people back to work we would have tax revenue.”

Right. This coming from a man like yourself who supports GDP killing cuts in spending while refusing raise taxes on those that can afford it. To top it off you want to push us to default and credit downgrade so we’ll be in even more debt. Wake me up when your side finds some sense of credibility on the economy and jobs.

    • Big Dog says:

In 2008 the debt was 10 trillion and now it is over 14 trillion. That is adding 4 trillion to the debt. How did that happen if it was not money we spent? And you can read about the spending here.

Franken stated a fact not an opinion? OK, he stated that we could not pay all the bills, true. He also put out graphs from that group and did not indicate that this is not the priority we would use. His goal was to scare people by using what we call a lie of omission.

We tried all your big government spending and taxing and it has been done again and again. FDR, Carter, Obama and we had the same failures. None of those people saw jobs because of what they did. FDR only saw us get jobs because of WWII. You claim that a credit downgrade would increase the debt. But adding 2.4 trillion in credit will not. Are you high?

I already told you our bond rating will go down because none of these plans come close to what those agencies want to see to keep the rating up. You are asking us to accept increased spending and take the bond rating reduction so that we get hit with a double whammy. Hell, Obama is trying to get the rating agencies to endorse a plan, one that does not do what the agencies said we needed to do.

  7. Adam says:

“And if you all are so worried about jobs why do you keep doing things that stifles job creation in the private sector?”

    Like what, again?

    • Big Dog says:

Unsettled tax policies that affect the business climate, regulations that stifle job creation (EPA rules instituting cap and trade, green energy stuff), Obamacare is a big one. many businesses say it will cost them too much so they are sitting on their cash. A guy named Wynn in Las Vegas can explain it (and has).

      • Adam says:

“That is adding 4 trillion to the debt. How did that happen if it was not money we spent?”

The debt has gone up because of the recession. Without the recession we’d have deficits that were mainly driven by Bush policies like the tax cuts, medicare changes, and the two wars. Obama has added to the debt. He just hasn’t added 4 trillion to the debt through his own policies.

“His goal was to scare people by using what we call a lie of omission.”

Well, his goal was to scare. That does not imply people shouldn’t be scared. They should. We’re on the edge of a cliff now for real. The double dip recession you’ve hoped for all these months is here. I just don’t think you figured the GOP would be the ones to cause it.

“You claim that a credit downgrade would increase the debt. But adding 2.4 trillion in credit will not. Are you high?”

The impact of second recession would far exceed the increase in the debt ceiling. We can either control our own destiny or let the debt completely control us after we default.

“I already told you our bond rating will go down…”

We have a way out. We can increase the debt ceiling well beyond this year. Next our leaders can get together and work out a real solution to the debt that isn’t mixed in with heated crisis rhetoric.

“Unsettled tax policies that affect the business climate, regulations that stifle job creation…”

We know those things pale in comparison to the fact that there are simply no customers to buy products and therefore no need for our businesses to expand. You cannot cut your way to increased consumerism. We actually get the opposite result when we do that.

We can stimulate again if we had the courage. We can protect state level jobs. We can make sure people continue getting unemployment benefits and we can increase food stamps over the short term.

Of course we wouldn’t dare go into more debt, would we? That might actually fix our problems. Your side is all increasing our problems so you can use the crisis as a justification for destroying the New Deal.

        • Blake says:

How in the hell would going into more debt actually FIX our problems? Did your mommy or daddy ever teach you how to balance a checkbook?
Or are you one of those liberals who actually think we can spend our way out of this problem? That’s asinine thinking, and should have been left in the brain of the 5 year old who thought that way.
