Lieberman Keeps His Mind Open

I have been pretty tough on Joe Lieberman after his remarks indicating that we should call him a Democrat. He has however, recently indicated that he has kept his mind open on the possibility of switching to the Republican Party. He is correct in saying that he was never told that we helped him so he would switch parties and that we told him to do what is best to him.

It would be fine with me if he stayed Independent but it would be nice if he caucused with the Republicans thereby making it a 50-50 tie in the Senate. If he decides to change parties then all the better though he better be counting this as his last election because the folks in his home state might not ever reelect him.

I think that after the way he was treated by members of his party he would be only too happy to at least caucus with the Republicans as sort of a protest and a way to stick it in their faces for what they did to him. Other Democrats should be wary because the way Lieberman was treated is exactly how Pelosi plans on treating any other Democrat who worked with the Republicans.

It will be fun to watch.

Joe is a good fellow. He votes the way he believes and not specifically along part lines. There are going to be issues that will make me made, there are going to other issues that will make me glad. I believe Joe will be fair.

  2. I think Lieberman was sending a clear message to the Democrats, and shoring himself up — and that’s a good thing. He wouldn’t make a good Republican — he’d be just like Chaffee, except he’d vote right on national security and the military.

Frankly, I think he’d do more good for the nation with the Democrats, keeping them from getting too far to the left.
