Kerry And The Other Idiots

This Downing Street Memo that has everyone on the left as giddy as a schoolgirl is not what they want it to be. They seem to think that this memo is the smoking gun that shows Bush lied to get us into a war in Iraq. This glee comes from one small piece of the memo that reads:

C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime’s record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action.(emphasis added).

Now I have argued that this is a memo from England and they speak a slightly different brand of English. This fixed around could actually mean that they were pursuing this approach. The left contends that it means they were fabricating information to fit the bill. I just do not see it that way. I read it as this is the course they want to pursue so they are tying everything to that issue.

Now we have John Kerry, who was in Vietnam, saying he will introduce this memo as proof that George Bush committed impeachable offenses.

“When I go back [to Washington] on Monday, I am going to raise the issue,” Kerry said, referring to the Downing Street Memo in an interview with Massachusetts’ Standard Times newspaper.
“I think it’s a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home,” the top Democrat added.

Before John goes off half-cocked perhaps he should ask these questions.

Why are Bush and Blair not quoted in this memo?
Why does it appear that they are not even present at the meeting? (they are talked about but no reference is made to them being there)
Why is this secret memo now available from a person who was employed there?
Has anyone certified the authenticity of this memo?
If the argument for WMD was weak and the items had to be “fixed” to support it why does the memo contain this:

For instance, what were the consequences, if Saddam used WMD on day one, or if Baghdad did not collapse and urban warfighting began? You said that Saddam could also use his WMD on Kuwait. Or on Israel, added the Defence Secretary.(emphasis added).

Now, if the WMD idea was weak why was there concern he would use WMD. Once again we have people saying there are little or no WMD but that he might use WMD. Perhaps John Kerry and the other donks who are holding this memo up as the Holy Grail could explain this little conflict. Perhaps they would care to answer the other questions that I posed above and provide us with more than unfounded glee at the word “fixed.”

Here is the memo.(thanks to Adam for the link)

This is what News Max has to say about Kerry jumping on the band wagon:

Though largely ignored in the U.S. outside of rabid anti-Bush Web sites like MichaelMoore.com, the Downing Street Memo won Sen. Kerry’s endorsement in the Standard Times interview: “It’s amazing to me,” the top Democrat said, “the way it escaped major media discussion. It’s not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that.”

Wow, now JFK is happy that the slobs who sit around in their pajamas are reporting this on the blogs. I think it would be funny as hell if this turned out to be a fabricated memo. Though it is thin on any evidence that implicates Bush it would just be funnier if it were fake. Maybe we could ask Dan Rather about it.

Blogs For Bush has an interesting article about the memo.

The validity of the memo has never been questioned by any official yet. Bush and Blair spoke of it together days ago. Right leaning blogs would be all over this one if it wasn’t true. Their silence so far says a lot to me…
