Kennedy is Ill but Still a Politician

Having said that, I imagine that this might be how things played out over the weekend. Senator Kennedy had a seizure and an ambulance was called. He had another seizure in route to the hospital. He was briefly at a small hospital before being airlifted to Mass General, a very good hospital. They ran some tests and did a CAT scan of his head. It was at this time they discovered his tumor. The doctors informed him that he had a tumor and they needed to do more tests to grade it and see how far along it was.

Dr.: Senator, do you want us to release any of this information?

Kennedy: How long will it take to do the tests you want to do?

Dr.: The tests can be accomplished in a few hours and we should have results back no later than Tuesday.

Kennedy: Tuesday huh. Let’s not say anything right now except that you are running tests. You see, Clinton is going to trounce Obama in Kentucky but he will win in Oregon.

Dr.: Everyone already knows that. It is all they talk about on the news but what does it have to do with your condition.

Kennedy: Its like this. I wait until Tuesday afternoon or so to disclose that I have a tumor. That bombshell will dominate the news and overshadow Clinton’s big win. All they will talk about is me. Then, since Oregon is three hours behind their polls will close when it is around 10pm in the East and most folks will be in bed so Wednesday will be all about Obama.

Dr.: I am not particularly comfortable playing politics with your health.

Kennedy: Now look here. This is my health information and I say it cannot be released until Tuesday and if it is released any earlier I will take you for a ride in my car, if you know what I mean. It is all about politics and I intend to take the thunder away from Clinton and help little Barack Osama, er, Obama er Osama Obama out.

Dr.: Sigh

Ted Kennedy has been a politician most of his life and it is all he knows. In all seriousness though, he is very sick and the limited information we are getting does not seem particularly encouraging. Some say he has a chance to live about three more years and others say, given his age and the assumption that it is inoperable, he has about a year.

I have no love for the man and cannot stand his politics. I feel he has been bad for America despite the accolades he is getting from everyone. However, he is a human being and I would not be so uncaring as to show joy over his illness like the liberals do every time Dick Cheney goes to the hospital. They hold gleeful death watches and hope this time it is for real. I cannot do that no matter how much I dislike the man.

My prayers are with him and his family. I pray he recovers but my experience tells me that is not likely and that he does not have much longer to be here. I would suggest that he resign from the Senate and enjoy life with his family doing the things he likes to do and die happy and with dignity. I am sure he will consider that but not before he helps Barry defeat Hillary.

Tell the truth now. There are plenty of Freepers with joy in their hearts today over the news of Kennedy. Stop being intellectually dishonest about it. You try and say something nice about Kennedy but then you follow it up with a completely stupid blanket statement about liberals and it just makes you look dumb.

Those of us on the left, center, and right who aren’t morons understand the difference between petty political argument and the humanity of our politicians, so why don’t you stop pretending you have the moral high ground on this one?

    And here we go…

    Look Adam,
I know it is hard for you to understand but the fact is that you can find all the vile comments you want on the Daily Kos and other hate filled left wing sites. I am sure there are a few people on the right who do the same but the truth of the matter is every time a lefty is ill every right wing site I look at offers prayers. When Bill Clinton had his bypass, when Ms. Edwards had her remission, and now this.

EACH AND EVERY time Dick Cheney goes to the hospital the Kos site has a gleeful death watch where they all hope that he dies. You can say what you want but I DO have the moral high ground.

There might be people with joy in their hearts but I doubt you will find much of it expressed on their web sites.

The fact is, you cannot recognize or handle the truth. You are an apologist for all things wrong on the left. You will defend them for the very things you condemn the right for. And you bring misguided arguments to the table.

As for the morons, those on the left who pray for the death of Republicans when they get sick fit the bill perfectly and they fit your description as well.

  5. Adam says:

And again you do it…you marginalize the foul comments from Freepers and the likes and pour on the contempt for similar voices on the left as if they are the mainstream. It’s about as intellectually dishonest as you can get. Yet I’m the one with a misguided argument? Give me a break. Give America a break.

I did not marginalize anything. Show me where they are writing it. There is an assumption that some of them are thinking it. Probably so but a bit hard to prove unlike the WRITTEN items I discussed.

Show me the foul comments. Then I can talk about them.

Go to the Free Republic thread and read the comments. Most of them are well wishes and prayers. Others ask why they should be concerned for his one life when Ted never worried about the millions that died in VN after we were forced to leave. There were some that were harsh but no one is saying how they can’t wait for him to die. I saw a lot of I don’t like him but my prayers are with him…

  8. Big Dog says:

This is one of them and it is true:

I’m not one of them either. The MSM will canonize him now that it appears he may be terminal, but even a simple random search though the C-SPAN archives would pick up some of Ted’s vitriolic and personal attacks on Republicans, judicial nominees and conservative political leaders. I’m not keen on seeing anyone suffer this kind of fate, but we can pray for his physical recovery while retaining an objective, critical sense of revulsion at his tactics (e.g., the “Robert Bork’s America” smear, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum, ad infinitum)

  9. Big Dog says:

And the original thread. There are references to a few personal remarks that the Mods pulled. That is how it should be. Read the comments and tell me these Freepers are being ugly like the moonbats.

  10. Adam says:

I know you are right about the Cheney stuff. I’m not saying you aren’t. You just seem to grant a pass to the assholes on your side of the isle and for what reason? They’re all as equally useless and not worth reading…

They’ve been closing threads all day long on Free Republic over the Kennedy stuff. The majority of comments have been positive of course, but some Freepers can’t help themselves. You get enough people together and the number of morons goes up and they all rear their ugly heads…

The worst stuff has been deleted every few minutes until the thread is closed but here’s just a sample from this thread of the comments that haven’t been deleted yet:

“The wrong person got out of the car back in 1969.”

“I would not feel compelled to talk about the nice things Pol Pot did during his life, at his death.”

“Is there some PC rule on FR that says that when an evil man gets sick, we must pretend he was saint?”

“What’s one brain destroyed compared to an entire nation?”

“May the Lord bless the cowardly murderer.”

“I personally cannot think of a more deserving person for this to have happened to.”

“Personally, I’d prefer to have seen him slip off a dock in a drunken stupor, and wrap himself up in a lobster pot line about ten feet underwater.”

“Someone smarter than me said that, ‘the Lord works in mysterious ways.'”

  11. Big Dog says:

Adam, I am not saying that does nto happen. Most of the time one cannot find it because moderators delete it unlike at the other places.

Some of these are cruel, some are true at any time like the wrong person got out of the car could be said anytime. Others just make the comment that they cannot say anything nice so they will say nothing at all.

Surely there are some people who do this on both sides. The difference is that the site owners moderate better and take the moral high ground.

There is no doubt there are asses on both sides though I have not read one thing that said they couldn’t wait for him to die…

  12. Adam says:

“Adam, I am not saying that does nto happen.”

No, you just failed to mention it while you were ripping liberals for their Cheney death watch. Intellectually dishonest.

Want to see some real hate speech? Check out the comments left after the two recent Kennedy articles covering his brain cancer at http://www.politico.com.

I was rather startled that moderators had chosen to leave so much of it intact, when there were plenty of blank comments which had clearly been stripped off the site because they were deemed objectionable. If what’s left on the site is OK, I’d hate to read what they removed.

Anyway, to Adam’s point: I think the reason that folks get upset about this stuff is that we always notice the negative crap written about our side by the other side. I know I do. Both sides do it, but both sides only feel the incoming vitriol, and assume the outgoing hate is in response to it.

Really, we are all throwing some hate towards our opposition all the time.
