Jewish Americans Turning Away From The Democrats

Israel

I have never been able to figure out why the Jewish population in this country so devoutly supports Democrats. The Jews, as a group, are successful hard working people who do not require government handouts to survive. They are fairly independent minded and lead good lives. But for some reason they continue to support Democrats even though that party is the one that is tepid in its support for Israel.

The Jewish folks in Israel are not too thrilled with Obama and his regime and now it looks like some of those here are jumping ship as well. There is now a website from a group of Jewish people and it is called Jewish Americans for Sarah Palin.

Jewish Americans for Sarah Palin is an independent group of academic, religious and political leaders, dedicated to promoting consideration of Gov. Sarah Palin’s political positions in the wider American Jewish community.

We find Ms. Palin’s policy positions on Israel, Iran, national security, fiscal responsibility, energy, and social policy – as well as her record on these issues as governor of Alaska and candidate for Vice President of the United States – to be serious, substantive and politically mainstream.

The group states that the Obama policies toward Israel and the Middle East have made them reassess their alliance. I am glad they are leaving the Democrats but I can’t help wonder what took so long and why they even supported Obama in the first place. He spent 20 years in a church that preaches Antisemitism and honors the likes of Louis Farrakhan. How much more evidence was needed to show how Obama would treat the Jews?

I want to welcome my brothers and sisters in the Jewish community who have divorced the Democrats to the conservative side. We believe in you, we support Israel and we have your backs. Welcome aboard.

Who knows, maybe this was the final straw.

Marco Rubio gets it as well.

Never surrender, never submit.

First and foremost, your Israel argument falls apart. A majority of Jewish Americans support Obama’s Israeli policy.

Furthermore, only a small number (15%) of Jews cited Israel as a key voting issue in 2004. This is because American Jews are not Israeli Jews.

It would be like expecting African-Americans to vote against a Democrat because of Clinton’s inaction in Rwanda or the events in Somalia. Some might have of course but probably just about as many Jews as are associated with that Jews for Palin website. That is to say…not that many.

In the end though the truth remains pretty simple. Jewish American’s are overwhelmingly liberal. It is not rocket science to decide why they vote for Democrats and simply pretending Obama’s Israeli policy is bad and putting your “I support Israel” button on your blog is not sufficient to lure too many Jewish Americans over to your way of thinking.

This comment from the site might shed some light on it for you:

First off, this poll was taken from March 2-23. The whole imbroglio with the Biden visit didn’t really happen until the 10th, and didn’t really pick up steam and become a real crisis until a few days after that. So, most of this poll was done before the latest dust-up. You have to take that into account. That said, 55% of US Jews approving of a Democratic President’s policy towards Israel is remarkably low. The poll itself showed that 50% of resopndents were democrats and 32% independents(most of whom probably lean democrat). Clinton routinely had in the 80s. The % saying relations are negative rose from 16 to 26, more than a 60% increase(and that was with most of the poll being done before the latest crisis). Somewhat negative from 14-22 and very negative doubled from 2-4. Back in 2000, under Clinton for example, only 7% said relations were negative and 90% positive. 90-7 in 2000 compared with 73-26 today. Almost a 400% increase in those saying negative. Given what’s happened since the 23rd with Netanyahu’s visit and now cancelling this latest visit and the US floating an imposed(one could even say final) solution to the conflict, I’d suspect the #s would be worse if they took the poll today. Of course any poll of Jews is going to look good for Obama as Jews are overwhelmingly democratic and liberal. But to be around 50% is not very good all things considered. Other polls have shown that Obama and the Dem Party as a whole is no longer supportive of Israel, so his declining #s should not be a surprise. He got 78% of the Jewish vote and is down to a 57% approval rating. That siad, he doesn’t really care about Jews. He doesn’t need 1 Jewsih vote to win reelection.(his increase in the black vote more than makes up for any decline in the Jewsih vote) And he doesn’t need their money, either. He showed last time he’ll be able to raise more than enough from other sources. So I don’t expect him to change his policy. He clearly leans more towards the arab side of the ledger. It was bound to happen sooner or later that a US President would.

Taking myself as an example: I disagree with Democrats on many issues but I still vote for Dems most of the time because the reason I choose a side isn’t related to one or even two key issues but many issues. With Jews you are bogged down by the one issue you think should be a breaking point for Jewish Americans but it’s really not. There are many more factors involved in their party ID.

You have to see that pretending Israel should change the minds of Jewish Americans is like pretending anyone who is against abortion should switch to the GOP despite dozens of other reasons people vote Democratic being really important as well.

Jewish Americans as a majority support liberal policies. Even if they totally could not stand Democratic policy on Israel why would they throw out their support for labor unions, civil rights, social programs, gay rights, or women’s lib just because the Democrats don’t support Israel the way you pretend they don’t? It doesn’t make sense.

    • Big Dog says:

Not at all. Jewish people might share some of the liberal views but they by and large are not a group that is dependent on government or even need government. They make good money and pay lots in taxes.

They are well educated. I can’t figure why they adhere to a party that requires dependence to have any value.

I think you overstate many of their positions.

The way I pretend or the way they have demonstrated?

  3. Big Dog says:

For the Democrat party to have any value (sense of worth or meaning) they need people to be dependnet upon government. Not everyone who agrees with Democrats is dependent and not everyone who is dependent is a Democrat but the Democrat party requires people to be dependent on government in order to exist.

    • Blake says:

For Dems, its the next best thing to slavery- except you only need them every two to four years, so you give them stuff (bribes) so they will vote the way you want, then you are free to forget them until the next election cycle.
This has been the clear history of Democrat politics as long as you care to go back in history- that, and resurrecting people from the dead in order that they can vote- Just look at LBJ, George Parr, and the electoral history of Duval County in Texas, and you have a perfect Democrat snapshot of their usual tactics.

    • Adam says:

“…the Democratic party requires people to be dependent on government in order to exist.”

That is a silly argument. That argument makes sense only when you consider a person that uses a social program a “government dependent” and not simply individuals that need a helping hand now and again. It helps when being critical of social programs to imagine the users are all just a bunch of freeloaders living off the backs of tax payers as if people live quality lives or get rich from welfare. It’s ridiculous and you know it.

      • Big Dog says:

When 47% of people pay no federal taxes and 40% of them actually get money back then they are freeloaders. A person who needs a hand now and again gets a hand now and again. A person on unemployment for 2 years or welfare for years and years while squirting out kids is a freeloader. People who need gubmint to provide health care and retirement are not getting help now and again.

Let’s face it, without the Democrats to dole out other people’s money there would be more people working and fewer sitting around eating bon bons watching Oprah.

        • Adam says:

“A person on unemployment for 2 years or welfare for years and years while squirting out kids is a freeloader.”

And just how many of these people are there?

  4. Adam says:

But let’s not stray too far from the actual argument here. The bottom line is Jewish Americans are as complex as any other group in the reasons they vote Democratic and there is little to suggest Israeli relations is a breaking point for them. The majority of Jews in the US live in heavy blue regions such as New York City and they have shown themselves historically to support social programs, labor unions, and equal rights for minorities and women. If these people were not Jewish they’d simply be indistinguishable from any other average American Democrat.

Of course getting down to it you think anyone who votes Democratic is voting incorrectly so it doesn’t surprise me that you think Jews should know better as well.

    • Big Dog says:

Jews, like many other Dems supporters are wooed every election cycle by libs who promise to do something for them or give them other people’s money. Once elected the officials have no use for the dependent groups until the next election when bones are thrown around again.

Jews do not fit the usual Demographics of people dependent on government and one would think that since many remember the horrors that happened to them at the hand of government they would be more supportive of a smaller less intrusive one.

I am no different than you with regard to thinking people who vote a certain way are incorrect. Don’t act like it is a special trait that I have, you have the same opinion the other way.

Jimmy Carter, great Antisemite. Why do they still support the Dems who are filled with those types?

      • Adam says:

“I am no different than you with regard to thinking people who vote a certain way are incorrect.”

No, we aren’t the same. I think you are wrong on most of your beliefs and I wish more people would vote Democratic but I think those who vote GOP for the right reasons are fine. We disagree fundamentally on how to manage our government and I accept that. Thinking the other side wants to end our way or life or destroy our government is something you do, not me.

        • Big Dog says:

You think those who vote Republican for the “right reasons?” How nice of you. Would those be reasons that agree with you.

I don’t care what people vote but be able to articulate why you voted the way you did. I get tired of hearing that a family has always voted D (or R) or that Republicans are racists or that gubmint gives me money when Dems are in. The morons who were interviewed just before and after the last election who could not answer basic questions and who did not know who the current VP was should not be voting. If your reason for voting for Obama is “cause he’s a black man” then you did not articulate a good reason but it is as good as any including people who say they voted against him because he is black.

It is not a matter of thinking that they want to do it. It is a matter of watching what they are doing and reading what they have written. They pretty much tell us their intentions.

        • Adam says:

“Would those be reasons that agree with you.”

Of course not. You’re just taking me wrong. If you accept that you’re voting for a party that wants to cut taxes for the rich, roll back social spending for the poor, ramp up military spending, weaken the EPA and other government offices, then fine. If you think you’re voting for a party with better moral values that will protect the unborn and uphold the constitution, stop socialism…well…then you’re a rube.

You could construct a list for liberals too I’m sure.

  5. Big Dog says:

The ideology will do that, not the party.

And will you stop with the cut taxes for the rich? 47% of people pay no taxes and get money back. Seems to me they are doing pretty good in that respect. The rich ended up paying more under the tax cuts and the poorer folks got the biggest tax cuts.

The idea would be to cut taxes FOR THOSE WHO PAY THEM. So if you don’t pay taxes don’t whine that some guy who does had his tax rate cut. YOURS IS ZERO. And if you get money that you did not pay in shut up.

I would think that instead of complaining you people would be thanking us taxpayers.

    • Adam says:

“I would think that instead of complaining you people would be thanking us taxpayers.”

I can’t for the life of me figure out what you mean by that. We’re tax payers too, by the way.

  6. Blake says:

I believe that you should have a job in order to vote- if you are going to have a say on where the taxes go, and to whom, you should pony up some money, you know put your money where your vote is.
Otherwise, you should just sit back, and pray that the voters have some charity in their hearts-
Oh, and whoever is voting needs ID, so socialist voter recruitment organizations, WHATEVER THEIR NAME BECOMES, cannot get away with fraud.
I would think, in this day and age, that no one would be without ID, but there are stupid people all over this country, and being without ID is stupid, I do not care who you are.

    • Big Dog says:

Votes should be based on income. Walter Williams agrees with me and he cites some of the Founders’ concerns. To me, the safety net was broken when they changed the way we elect Senators.

      Williams

ID is an absolute must. There is no excuse for not having ID. Give the poorest of the poor a welfare check and tell him he needs ID to cash it and he will get an ID. You want to vote, get an ID.

      • Adam says:

Who suggested the same people who can’t get ID’s are also the people on welfare? Just more myth making on your part with nothing to back it up.

Once again we see conservatives dreaming of making it harder to vote if you’re poor and if you do let the poor vote you want to make it count less because you don’t earn as much money. Pathetic.

        • Big Dog says:

Every time someone discusses ID to vote the libs cry about the poor who cannot get them and that not everyone has an ID. Let’s face it, most people have an ID and those who don’t are on the bottom of the ladder. You guys cry for them and that my friend is who says anything about ID and the poor. The reality is, it would make it harder to commit fraud and the left can’t have that. The dead would be disenfranchised.

As for thanking us, that would be a play on Obama’s egocentric statement about TEA Party members. And since I was talking about those who pay no federal income taxes and especially those who get money back (who pay nothing in) then one would assume that is to whom it applied.

        • Adam says:

I’m sorry if we’re just always “cry” about the disenfranchisement of voters. We’re just not duped by the imaginary idea of rampant voter fraud like you are and we know disenfranchisement is a much bigger issue.

“Let’s face it, most people have an ID and those who don’t are on the bottom of the ladder.”

Yes, the people you don’t want to vote anyway since they vote against your world view. Make them need a special ID they’ll have a harder time getting. Make them have less of a say because they don’t make as much money as you do. Then you’ll be happy happy happy and we’ll have such a wonderful, free America…

“As for thanking us, that would be a play on Obama’s egocentric statement about TEA Party members.”

Yes, I do love watching Obama make fun of your ridiculous movement. Taxed enough already? Well, good thing Obama’s cut taxes for 95% of working Americans. You still just refuse to accept that I suppose. Huge taxes are right around the corner along with gun bans, nazi armies, hyperinflation and a quadrupedal dip recession and 85% unemployment, I’m sure…

  7. Big Dog says:

Adam, tax credits do not equal tax cuts. There has been no change in the tax rates except they will go up when the Bush tax cuts expire. The health care takeover raised taxes on everyone in a number of areas.

Yes, you do not believe there is rampant fraud except in 2000 and 2004 when you and the Michael Moore types cried about voter fraud that was not present.

It is not hard to get an ID but it is hard to keep people from voting more than once or to keep dead people from voting.

I understand you are blinded by ideology. You guys cried about a draft, no SS payments and high debt when Bush was in office. The first 2 did not happen and the last is dwarfed by the Obama debt which you happily go along with.

I want people who are eligible to vote to do so but if we have to round them up, register them and transport them then do they really want to vote?
