Jail or Kill Dick Thompson

That’s what the government says. The government is insisting that this peaceful man be jailed or killed. Why? Is he a murderer? Is he a rapist? Is he a terrorist or smoker?

No, actually, once again, government wants this man jailed or dead because he won’t obey government.

Mr. Thompson is apparently doing nothing. He is sitting back, minding his own business. He’s 72 years old, and he’s not bothering a soul. In his words, he “just want[s] to be left alone.” But, alas, this government cannot let that be. You see, the government has decided to punish Mr. Thompson for doing nothing. They will kill him if he disobeys.

Mr. Thompson lives on his land, minding his own business. He’s living on his 38 acres in a trailer. But the government doesn’t like that. They say he MUST buy electricity. They say he MUST buy water. And government says he MUST buy sewer services from them. If he refuses, he will be jailed or killed.

No, he’s not endangering anyone. No, he’s not even bothering anyone. But this government cannot have that. You must obey or the government will destroy you. How sad.

P.S. I suspect that the government wants his land to sell to a developer or some such crap. It’s nearly always about the money.

Looks like he has decided to sell his land and move. I wonder who bought it…

I think this is a terrible story and an example of bad government but I don’t like the level of misinformation spread about this story either.

When I search the web for this story I find two things. One, people suggesting Thompson was evicted for living “too simply” or something silly like that. Second, I find people suggesting this is an attempt to get his land.

I don’t think either idea is substantiated by what little we do know, but these two narratives appeal to a base of people that set up shop on the internet and run in similar circles with a hypersensitive fear of government intrusion and regulation. The kind of people who store seeds and gold and guns and recommend you keep 3 months of food because our way of life is headed to hell in a hand basket. But I digress.

First of all it had little to do with living “simply” or “poor” as some put it. Also it has nothing to do with forcing the man to buy sewer from the county. Indiana state law provides the guidelines for how sewage should be disposed at residential properties.

In this case I agree with the state law because I don’t want untreated sewage in our soil and water systems. But in the case of Thompson, one man in one RV on a decent piece of land, the county clearly should have issued a waiver and this is utter nonsense on their part for not doing so.

As for the land grab idea, this is false simply because they were not taking his land. The eviction was just preventing him from living on the land in the conditions he was living in. The government can and does take land but this doesn’t appear to be one of those cases. Thompson did not have to move his animals or his RV, he just could not live there in those conditions without a waiver.

First of all I am tired of you people insulting those who decide to exercise common sense and invest in gold or other non money items or those who think it is smart to keep extra food on hand. You morons ran around for 8 years crying you were going to be drafted into Bush’s military to fight his evil wars and had out collapse at any moment when his numbers were as good or better than Clinton’s. You have a right to think things will be OK and that it can’t happen here. But DO NOT insult people who are preparing for the worst as if you are superior to them or somehow more intelligent (which is definitely NOT the case). Your comment smacks of elitism.

Don’t knock the people you will be begging for food if we go bad before we get better.

As for the guy, the government has no right to evict him from HIS OWN property. Got that, it is HIS property. He is not in default on it. He owns it is is HIS. If they want to fine him for polluting or whatever then there are courts to deal with that but it is his property and government has no right to evict him.

They don’t like how he is living so they are throwing him off his OWN property. Sounds good. I don’t like the way government acts so I think we should forcibly remove government from the land it is on. Only difference, the government does not own the land it is on, we do.

I heard the guy sold his property. I want to know to whom as I think it would be interesting to know. And to simplify it for you, no one said it was a land grab or they were TAKING his land. People said it looked like he was being harassed so he would SELL his land.

      Pay attention.

People do not have a hypersensitive fear of government (what web circle did you get that talking point from) they know what government tyranny is. If the stuff hits the fan and it gets bad I am shooting liberals on my way to the war.

“First of all I am tired of you people insulting those who decide to exercise common sense and invest in gold…”

The phrase “common sense” and “invest in gold” should not be in the same sentence right now. This whole climate of fear is a scam in order to dupe people into buying gold and survival products and whatever else you think you’ll need when the hyperinflation and the commie-nazi-socialists come to take your guns and your fried food and your freedom away. They are far more harmful to our country than anything you think “big government” is doing. They want your money and they want your votes and they don’t care who they hurt or lie to in order to accomplish that.

“As for the guy, the government has no right to evict him from HIS OWN property.”

The man has every right to use his own property within the bounds of the law. That’s the bottom line. The county absolutely should have issued a waiver but let’s not keep pretending this guy was not in violation of state and county laws.

“They don’t like how he is living so they are throwing him off his OWN property.”

That’s like saying a guy who steals his food from the store to eat gets caught and is claiming that the police just don’t like how he is living. The man is in violation of the law.

“And to simplify it for you, no one said it was a land grab or they were TAKING his land.”

Obviously you’re not looking at the conversation about this on the web. It’s crazy out there. Folks like Alex Jones eat this stuff up. I get that the government fails miserably from time to time at every level but the way that folks spin this into a larger tale of government intrusion and tyranny makes me sick.

You mention liberals under Bush and I’ll be the first to tell you we were wrong. We were completely wrong. With every new president apparently we can expect the other side to proclaim the tyranny, imminent economic collapse, and pretty much the end of everything good and wholesome in the US.

First, the man has the right to use his land in ANY WAY HE SEES FIT- it IS his land.
Second, I agree that the hysteria about gold, which in my opinion is pretty useless, is overhyped, but then so is all else.
Personally, I’ll take guns and ammo- with those, I am pretty certain your gold is no match. One might, just might help ensure your survival, the other will just get taken from you- what are you going to do- throw your gold at an attacker?

  4. Ogre says:

Wow. Just wow. Adam, I’m amazed at the level of hatred you have for anyone who disagrees with you.

And your bias against anyone who disagrees with you is showing, horribly.

    Just wow.

I just have to say, Adam, for your sake, it’s good that people like Big Dog and I are not like you. Otherwise, we would think it was okay to force you to do our bidding. Oh, we’d make up nice names for it, but you’d still have no option but to obey or die.

It’s incredible and sad that there are so many people like that, who honestly believe force is the only way.

  5. Adam says:

“Adam, I’m amazed at the level of hatred you have for anyone who disagrees with you.”

I don’t know why you’d call it hate. I don’t hate anyone but the liars and scam artists. There’s a lot of them about.

“It’s incredible and sad that there are so many people like that, who honestly believe force is the only way.”

I think it’s incredible and sad that there are so many people who get duped by liars into believing the crap you believe about freedom and government. America isn’t perfect. You’re not going to support every law. Sometimes government is going to harm the people. But the difference between you and I is that I see that as room for improvement and you see it as tyranny and evil. Then you constantly insist I hate freedom, hate the people I disagree with, and want to force people to do my bidding. That too is sad and incredible.

    • Mr. Ogre says:

Wow. Again, wow. Again, I’m just amazed. You simply accept government harming people as normal. That’s just horrible. Unreal. At least I understand where you’re coming from.

      • Adam says:

Spin it how you like, but I did not say I accept or support government harming the people. I just take a rational stance against it unlike you and others who apparently see scary men with guns around every corner waiting to take more of your freedom away.

        • Big Dog says:

Not all the scary men have guns. Congress along with the Executive and the Judiciary are removing our rights without firing a shot. I guess for those who know what freedom is and who grew up with less intrusive rules understand.

For folks who grew up depending on government to assist them with living it is more difficult to see. For them it is only natural to have government deeply involved in their lives.

  6. Eoj Trahneir says:

How about application of that same principle to illegal aliens?
They are breaking the law, they should be prosecuted, fined and kicked from the country for ever, amen. That is also a law.

    • Mr. Ogre says:

Nice one, Eoj. However, for liberals, laws are just at tool for social engineering. They’re only there to be enforced when they advance liberal causes (because when people are given a choice, they reject liberal causes, so they have to be forced upon people).

    • Big Dog says:

Very good point Eoj. The illegals are breaking laws and are ignored while some poor schmuck on his own propperty is harassed. Funny, harass that guy but leave those poor illegals alone.
