It Is Just Weather Mr. Gore

Whenever there is a huge snowstorm (and we had quite a few of those this year) the sane part of the population (those who do not believe in man-made global warming) make comments about global warming and how it must not be real. When we discuss these things and other events we are quickly told by the global warming alarmists that these events are just weather and there is a difference between weather and climate.

The Holy Father of global warming did the exact same thing at a global warming conference when he said that recent weather events were consistent with global warming.

But Gore had a specific example in mind. He explained this recent soaking in the Northeastern United States was “consistent” with what global warming alarmists were projecting. Business and Media Institute

We had several blizzards this year and this is not consistent with what the alarmists have said. Some of them lamented about winters without snow blah blah.

The snow runs contrary to what they have told us even as they claim that the snow is a sign of global warming.

But are the alarmists who routinely mock people as ignorant for not knowing the difference between climate and weather going to call out Gore for his lack of understanding of the issue?

If the snowstorms are not evidence that global warming is not a problem because they are weather events then all the soaking rains we had are not evidence because they too are weather events.

Would one of you self righteous alarmists contact Mr. Gore and inform him of his egregious error?

    DAR
    Well, that’s true.

Bigd: “We had several blizzards this year and this is not consistent with what the alarmists have said.”>>

    DAR
Well, that’s not true at all.

Bigd: “The snow runs contrary to what they have told us…”>>

    DAR
No it doesn’t. In fact it’s precisely “what they have told us.” You’re misinformed. Easy version: Warmer air holds more moisture. Snow is a form of moisture.

Oh, I see you are using GW denier argument #70.

“Does record snowfall disprove global warming?”

    The roast:

“To claim that record snowfall is inconsistent with a warming world betrays a lack of understanding of the link between global warming and extreme precipitation. Warming causes more moisture in the air which leads to more extreme precipitation events. This includes more heavy snowstorms in regions where snowfall conditions are favourable. Far from contradicting global warming, record snowfall is predicted by climate models and consistent with our expectation of more extreme precipitation events.”

    Skeptical science.

Perhaps you would like to try some new GW denier arguments? Here’s a nice list of 95 of them. They’re all about equally stupid but it would be nice to see a new one once in a while.

Bigd: “…even as they claim that the snow is a sign of global warming.”>>

    DAR
Excess snow and precipitation are entirely consistent with global warming, as has been consistently claimed. You’re just wrong.

Bigd: “[anyone] going to call out Gore for his lack of understanding of the issue?”>>

    DAR
Gore is certainly right in pointing to a correlation here regarding this rather mundane and straightforward claim. Extreme weather events like this are consistent with GW.

    Yawn.

You know what’s REALLY consistent with global warming claims? Record global warmth, which is what we have.

“2000-2009 was warmest decade on record. NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), The National Climatic Data Center. (NCDC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), The U.K. Met Office, and the World Meteorological Organisation have all stated that 2000-2009 was the warmest decade on record for the globe.”

Hey, maybe all of the relevant science organizations on the planet are wrong, and maybe Bigd is right.

I don’t think that is very likely and I don’t expect reasonable people will think that very likely.

  2. Big Dog says:

How did I know that you would defend Gore for saying that a weather event was consistent with climate change?

You will change all stories to suit your needs. Gore is talking about a weather event.

    Perhaps you missed this alarmist:

In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today’s anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don’t own a sled. But neighbors came to our home at Hickory Hill nearly every winter weekend to ride saucers and Flexible Flyers. — RFK Jr.** [emphasis mine]

      DAR
Well, you are probably aware that I like to defend people, anyone, when false charges are brought against them. And yours are easily shown to be false. And I like to knock down stupid GW denier arguments (and they’re all stupid).

You guys like to take swings at Gore. I am still waiting for someone to land a punch.

Bigd: “In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically.”>>

      DAR
I doubt it, but this is not inconsistent with global warming.

I grew up with a ski hill across the street from my home in Canada (Salmon Arm). They went out of business around 1984. Too many years, days, without snow.

      Weather happens.

Incidentally, you don’t provide a link but I found your quote. It’s from RFK Jr, not JFK Jr. He’s a bit of an idiot on this issue (and a few others I could mention) so feel free to ignore him. If you want to knock down GW science you need some really good peer reviewed science, and you don’t have that. You don’t have any of that.

Cherry picking some non-expert politician running their mouth about the weather doesn’t get you squat.

“Global Warming’s Impacts Have Sped Up, Worsened Since Kyoto

WASHINGTON — Since the 1997 international accord to fight global warming, climate change has worsened and accelerated – beyond some of the grimmest of warnings made back then.”

      Link.

  3. Big Dog says:

Sorry Darrel, he is one of your GW alarmists and he speaks for you folks when you are all trying to make a point.

Plenty of punches have landed on Gore. He has been wrong on too many things.

He also made a weather comment to push GW which is what you all claimed people did when discussing snow.

And we could use a little old fashioned warmth. Like we have in cycles of about 1500 years for millenia.

Guilt by association fallacy. RFK Jr., is a non specialist with none (zero) expertise on the matter in question. I stopped taking him seriously when he published terribly inaccurate material on the vote situation Ohio. Now he is a promoter of vaccination nuttery.

But this is all a distraction from your mistake about Gore’s comment.

Bigd: “Plenty of punches have landed on Gore.”>>

      DAR
I haven’t seen a single one I couldn’t knock down in two minutes flat. The one above was based on your misunderstanding and didn’t even get off of the ground.

Bigd: “He has been wrong on too many things.”>>

Such as? You’re one to talk!

        Ditto for Gore.

No, I use the same dictionary as everyone else for definitions. You’ve got nothing.

Considering Gore won the Nobel Prize for helping to educate the planet about climate change, it certainly isn’t accurate to say he has zero expertise on the matter in question.

And his experience and familiarity with this subject go back many decades.

So again, you swing, and you miss.

        Timeline Al Gore:

        “1965

Gore enrols at Harvard… becomes interested in the topic of global warming after taking a course with Professor Roger Revelle, one of the first scientists to measure carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

        1976

…Gore holds first congressional hearings on the climate change, and co-sponsors hearings on toxic waste and global warming.”

        • Blake says:

It is obviously not hard to “win” a Nobel- in Goresky’s case, it is obviously not necessarily who you know, but who you blow.

  4. Big Dog says:

    Considering he won the Nobel…

Obama won the Nobel and did nothing to earn it.

And maybe Gore received the Nobel for inventing the Internet.
