It Ain’t Easy Being Green

Kermit the Frog sang a song entitled Bein Green in which he described how tough it was to be green. Now he is the spokes-frog for Ford and declares it is easy being green as he displays Ford Hybrids. This little green amphibian should make Al Gore very happy. But the truth is, for Al Gore the father of modern moonbat global warming death and destruction scare tactics and fictitious movies, it really is not easy being green.

According to an article by Peter Schweizer in USA Today, Gore is not as green as he wants the rest of us to be.

Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn’t Gore dump his family’s large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family’s trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas.

Living carbon-neutral apparently doesn’t mean living oil-stock free. Nor does it necessarily mean giving up a mining royalty either.

Humanity might be “sitting on a ticking time bomb,” but Gore’s home in Carthage is sitting on a zinc mine. Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River.

The issue here is not simply Gore’s hypocrisy; it’s a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn’t he made any radical change in his life? Giving up the zinc mine or one of his homes is not asking much, given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives.

This is another example of the do as I say mentality of the left. One would think that a person with such a high profile making such demands would garner a lot of attention from the MSM. One would also think that people would be looking seriously at what Gore says he wants us to do and what he actually does. Unfortunately, the kool-aid drinkers on the left take this pseudo-science hook line and sinker.

The article also points out that Howard Dean who told us global warming is real has not had the DNC sign up for green energy. Peter Schweizer points out that the RNC has not signed up either but guess what, the Bush Administration has:

Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.

Remember this when the environmental wackos come out of their caves this election year and tell us how the right is ruining the planet. Perhaps they need to get their houses in order before they start pointing fingers.

Sesame Street – Bein’ Green

It’s not that easy bein’ green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It’s not easy bein’ green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re
Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky

But green’s the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean
Or important like a mountain
Or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am green and it’ll do fine
It’s beautiful!
And I think it’s what I want to be

It’s preferable to be a knowledgeable hypocrite than to act consistently on a false premise. The hypocrite has at least taken the step to understanding, even if his implementation is imperfect.

What still stuns me when reading rightwing blogs, is the broad incapacity of the posters to seek out for themselves the credible sources on scientific issues (in their defense, the fossil fuel industry runs the most effective propaganda campaign in history). On issues of even marginal comlexity, we at some point must rely on others. Learning how to find those people is key, whether its car repair or the future of humanity.

On climate, avoid all news sources, left and right. Instead, google ‘NCAR’, ‘Hadley Centre’, ‘Max Planck Institute’. They’ll steer you to the inconvenient truth.

So if I just admit that Global Warming might be real then I can go about my business as usual and be a hypocrite about it, nice idea.

The reality is that there are as many scientists who disagree with the theory as there are who agree and those are scientists who have nothing to do with the oil industry. Is this an item that needs to be explored, of course, but to use theories as absolutes is a misuse of science.

  3. ministyra says:

Tthe US ‘National Center for Atmospheric Research’ (NCAR) and the British Meteorological Service’s ‘Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research’ have no peers on the anti-global warming side. These two groups are as cutting edge as it gets in science, massively funded and beholden to no one except their respective country’s governments. I challenge anyone like yourself to show a single climate change research group doing active, peer reviewed research in the field, which is of a stature even close to these two organizations. Just one will do. There are several more like Hadley and NCAR I could name, but those two should be sufficient for comparison purposes. I look forward to your reply.

Any scientist who could overturn current climate change theory would instantly become one of the most famous scientists in history, have his or her choice of lab facilities anywhere in the world, virtually unlimited funding, lectures, books, Nobel Prizes. Surely Exxon and Chevron are capable of funding such research. The US rightwing controls the US government, and could dump billions into such research with the stroke of a pen. Yet that science isn’t there, isn’t even being carried out. Why do you think that is?

    Regards, etc…

I have neither the time nor the inclination to go through this all over. Sppose I just say that global warming is the gospel and then I am just going to do what I have been and be one of those Gore Hypocrites, you know informed.

It does not matter if it is true and you believe it but do not do anything or if you don’t believe and do nothing, the end result is the same.

This idea has yet to be proven and the hottest days on Earth were long before the modernized nations. Yet, it was hotter then. New ice age, new hot age when they finally make up their minds let me know.

It is moot anyway, Iran or North Korea will probably launch a nuke and mess it all up any way.

  5. ministyra says:

I think what will become moot are the worries over Iran and Korea, which though very serious, are upscaled tribal conflicts. The massive disruption of global climate and the stunningly rapid collapse of the ocean ecosystem we are witnessing, were beyond our imagining just a few decades ago. Our cultural paradigms did not evolve in the context of planetary scale catastrophes. So instead, we grapple with each other as we always have, old warriors throwing stones oblivious to the building burning down around them.

Climate change will be at the center of your world in the next few years and for the rest of your life. I wish it weren’t so., but unfortunately you’ll soon have no choice but to develop an “inclination”.

    Regards, etc..
